The cottage was originally a bushman's cottage for colonial single men working in and felling the native bush in the Ruahine Ranges. It has been renovated with recycled timber and windows and still includes the original small windows in the front that are only held up with brass pegs. There is a sunny verandah with a table and chairs with its own charming garden.
50 metres down the road is Birdwoods Gallery where you will find coffee, ice creams, lunch and a sweet shop.
