About this property
Peaceful Ocean facing Island Escape
Our Beach house is in an idyllic subtropical location on Kawau Island. After you hop off the ferry at Schoolhouse Bay we are only 5 minutes walk up the hill from the wharf which is so handy. You can swim and fish at the wharf and there is safe swimming at schoolhouse Bay and other bays such as ladies bay around the island. Once you are at the house you can relax on the deck while enjoying the fantastic views of the harbour. The house is very private as it is surrounded by bush. So quiet and peaceful and it is a treat to listen to many different native birds. Mansion House the historical former home of Sir Governor Grey New Zealand’s first Governor is half an hour walk away through the bush and you can also explore places like ladies bay and the old coppermine lookout. We have a mooring available at Harris Bay just let me know if you would like to use this.
Special conditions:
Please do not use the spa pool as we have limited water and we are unable to maintain the spa pool hygienically. It is also a hazard if children are visiting our house if water is left in the spa pool.
There are no rubbish collection facitities on Kawau Island. so please be aware that you will have to take your rubbish off the island with you. At sandspit wharf there are large skips and recyle bins you can use in a rubbish enclosure . The code to get into the enclosure is C018Y.
Our house is a 5 minute walk up the hill from the Schoolhouse Bay Wharf. You will need to carry your food and bags the 5 minutes up the hill . If this is going to be difficult for you please let me know and if someone is available when you arrive I can try and arrange for you to get a ride up to the house. Please note there is not always someone available. You can borrow the trolley from the wharf but please take it back to the wharf .. Thanks and have a great time!
Extras: Cleaning (Required, NZ$90.00 per stay); Linen (included);

About the host
Hosted by Sally McChlery

I am originally from Whangarei but now live in Arrowtown in the South Island. We bought our house on Kawau Island as we have been visiting the Island with our children for around 20 years and enjoy coming back here regularly to visit family, swim , fish, explore , relax and to enjoy the local wildlife. We also love the subtropical climate in northland .
Why they chose this property
We think our house is pretty special as it has fantastic views over Bon Accord Harbour but is only 5 minutes walk from the wharf and is very private nestled in the bush. We look down over schoolhouse bay and enjoy watching the comings and goings from the main wharf and around the bay.
What makes this property unique
Private serene location nestled in the bush with many native birds nearby. Fantastic views. Interesting wildlife including wallabies, wekas and kiwis.
