The Mermaid Retreat is a great couples' or small-family rental. We are on the shores of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. We are within walking distance to Lover's Point Beach, downtown Pacific Grove, Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf. Pebble Beach, Carmel, Carmel Valley, and Point Lobos State Reserve are just minutes away. Big Sur is 26 miles south, and Hearst Castle is only 90 miles south on Scenic Highway #1.
Sit on a bench out front, and watch the seals and otters play in the giant kelp beds. Or stroll the hiking trail along the shore at sunset.
Our season is year-round! So book your reservation now, before it's too late.
The Fall is the peninsula's best-kept secret.

Wonderful rental - cottage, location and hosts

We so enjoyed our week-long stay at Mermaid Retreat cottage in April 2024. The cottage is clean, roomy, charming with its mermaid decor, bright due to the large windows and skylights, and very comfortable. It has everything we needed to cook light meals; the bed is comfortable; the washer/dryer/laundry rack were so helpful. The pocket doors to the kitchen/living area and to the bathroom kept our dog confined with us in the bedroom at night. The location is superb - 1 min walk to Perkins Park which runs parallel to the beautiful coast. What a gorgeous place to walk our little poodle! We walked the half mile to Pacific Grove’s downtown Farmers’ Market. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is 1.3 miles away, Asilomar State Beach/sand dunes 1.8 miles, 17-Mile Drive 1 mile, Carmel Mission 7.7 miles.The hosts were very kind and responsive. My husband mentioned in the morning wanting to barbecue our dinner, and within a couple of hours, Barry had brought charcoal. We could not have asked for better accommodations, location, or hosts. We really loved our stay at the Mermaid Retreat and totally understand why guests have returned over a period of many years. We hope to return also. Thank you, Barry and Elizabeth, for a wonderful stay!

House Truths

The cottage was very nice, but the bed is quite old. I would guess 20+ years. No pillowtop here. The bedroom is also a TV rooom and the two chairs provided are very uncomfortable. No parking access INSIDE the garage.

Celebrating our anniversary

We love Pacific Grove and the Mermaid Retreat. It’s cozy and comfortable, and the location is excellent. So glad it’s dog friendly; our dog Angus loves it too. The owners are next door and super helpful. Great side patio with a BBQ too. Wish I could stay forever!
