The Mermaid Retreat is a great couples' or small-family rental. We are on the shores of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. We are within walking distance to Lover's Point Beach, downtown Pacific Grove, Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf. Pebble Beach, Carmel, Carmel Valley, and Point Lobos State Reserve are just minutes away. Big Sur is 26 miles south, and Hearst Castle is only 90 miles south on Scenic Highway #1.
Sit on a bench out front, and watch the seals and otters play in the giant kelp beds. Or stroll the hiking trail along the shore at sunset.
Our season is year-round! So book your reservation now, before it's too late.
The Fall is the peninsula's best-kept secret.

We always enjoy our stay at the Mermaid retreat! Walking the beautiful trail never gets old. We didn’t need any assistance but Barry and Elizabeth are readily available if needed.

Calling All Mermaids

It's just what we've been looking for! A comfy, cozy place to call home near the Bay and within walking distance into town. Just the right size for the 2 of us and kitty too. Kitchen is small, but still able to prepare meals since it had everything we needed. We'll be back!!! Thank you Barry and Elizabeth for sharing this peaceful hideaway!

Perfect location, just steps from the coastline!

We spent an amazing week at the Mermaid Retreat. It's clean, well stocked and perfect for two. A short walk down the street gets you to the beautiful Pacific Grove coastline. Very close to Lover's beach. We can't wait to come back.

Great little place on the beach!

We got to spend a week at the Mermaid Retreat. It was wonderful. Perfect space for us to retreat too after activities. Pacific Grove is a nice little quiet area. A lot is walkable from the house.

Pleasant and Great Location

We enjoyed our stay overall. Just a few things were needed—we had to buy a large pot for cooking as there was only a small one, and a new sponge. Luggage racks would have been helpful instead of putting our suitcases on the floor. The location is excellent and we were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was as we did not hear the neighbors.

Making Memories

My sister and I had a wonderful time at Mermaid Retreat. This lovely place is all about a beautiful location! It was clean and really love the new hardwood floor in the bedroom. Loved the upgraded TV and comfortable new mattress. We were walking distance to the best restaurant “Beach House”. The owners are friendly and responsive. Perfect location

The Mermaid Retreat is in a perfect location. Steps to the ocean and walking trail along the beach. Short walk into Pacific Grove. Located on a quiet, one way street, with little traffic. The cottage is older and small, but had everything we needed. Perfect size for a couple. The only negative is the bedroom mattress is getting tired and could be replaced.

Generous host

Because of a family situation, we had to cancel at literally the last minute. At 4 am, Barry immediately acknowledged my message, offered to help us get our money back through VRBO, and followed through in less than a couple of hours. We cannot say enough kind words about the host and his generosity in this situation. This would have been a repeat visit - we stayed at the Mermaid House a couple of years ago. Highly recommended.

Perfect “Retreat”

The Mermaid Retreat was absolutely perfect for this couple! The location can’t be beat…walking distance to so many things, but especially the ocean. We walked the ocean path every day…we saw so much wildlife and beautiful and different floral and fauna. The house had virtually everything we needed, was so cozy and comfortable and we slept great every night in the queen size bed. The owners are right next door and accessible if needed and very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We can’t recommend this gem highly enough. It was truly the perfect retreat and home base for our week in Pacific Grove and surrounding area. Thank you, Barry and Elizabeth!

House Truths

The cottage was very nice, but the bed is quite old. I would guess 20+ years. No pillowtop here. The bedroom is also a TV rooom and the two chairs provided are very uncomfortable. No parking access INSIDE the garage.
