About this property
Sleep with the Cows @ New Day Dairy GuestBarn
The cows are ready to meet you at New Day Dairy’s GuestBarn in North Iowa! Cow gaze 24/7 while “sleeping with cows” in modern comfort! The loft features 2 large windows overlooking 150 cows munching their “cow salad”, lounging on the “beach”, or heading to be milked by “Rita the Robot”! You'll be fascinated by following one of the "painted" cow's life in the barn. Get up close to the cows & calves on guided intro & farewell barn tours! Welcome to New Adventures, Authentic Cows, and Comfy Beds!
The non-smoking GuestBarn sleeps 9 people (with an optional 10 in a pack in play). With 3 separate bedrooms all with their own bathrooms you'll be comfortable during your stay. A beautiful garden out front along with the expansive Iowa horizon can be enjoyed from both the porch or the patio (complete with gas fire pit).
Every stay comes with an Introductory & Farwell Tour plus a DIY continental breakfast! Enjoy hard boiled eggs, Dutch letter pastries (!), yogurt, granola, and more at your own pace. Use the fully stocked kitchen for your meals or dine in (or out) at local restaurants.
Guests are NOT allowed in the barn, near calf area, or in pasture unless with a farm tour guide. This is for our guests safety as even the nicest animal can be unpredictable and machinery does need to operate on the farm. Of course, our insurance likes this too.
You'll need a vehicle you're willing to drive on gravel to get here. In the winter (Nov-Mar typically), a 4WD or AWD vehicle is recommended as the gravel roads & our driveway can become snow-packed and icy. It's all part of the authentic farmstay experience.
Area Information: 3 hours from Minneapolis, 2 from Des Moines, and 5 from Kansas City sleeping with the cows is a great way to spend a weekend outside of the city! Clarksville is 10 minutes away, Waverly - home of Wartburg College - is 20 minutes, and Charles City is 30 minutes to the north. Each of these communities has great activities & restaurants if you're planning to spend multiple days in the area.

About the host
Hosted by Lynn Bolin
We're #DairymanDan and city-turned-country girl Lynn. Our days are spent caring for 120 cows, our growing family, and you, our guests, on our Century Family Farm in North Central Iowa.
We've always loved to travel – both growing up and after meeting each other in college. Just after getting married we spent a couple years living overseas. Our time traveling & living overseas shaped who we are, how we look at the world, increased our compassion for others, and gave us a deeper understanding of the world around us (although we still have a lot to learn & experience ourselves!).
Isn't that why you travel too? Not to Escape but to Enrich your life and bring new Experiences to your Everyday.
We are a working dairy farm, not a hobby farm. What does this mean? All of our family’s income comes from the dairy farm (and GuestBarn). This is our full-time job (and then some!)
Stick around long enough and you’ll find #DairymanDan playing guitar or piano IN THE BARN – we call it music therapy. Our 3 kids help keep Lynn’s schedule full.
There's is always ice cream in our freezer – because why not eat ice cream every day! All of our cows have names – and if a calf is born during your say – you’ll get to help name her!
We love knowing that everyday we help feed over 8,500 people delicious dairy products! Instead of each of those families having a cow in the backyard, we care for their cows in our barn! We can't wait to show you around!

Why they chose this property
New Day Dairy is just up the hill and across the creek from Dan's 130+ year old century farm, where his parents (and our younger animals) still live. We built for the future on the foundation of the generations before us.
What makes this property unique
One-of-a-kind, unique, nothing else like it... our guests have used all these phrases & more to describe sleeping with the cows. We've never heard of any place else like it. If you want to #sleepwiththecows you'll have to come visit!
