Quiet Oasis in Desert
Loved our stay at the property and it did not disappoint when it came to stargazing. The host even gave us a heads up on a rocket launch occurring during our stay, which we were able to view from the house. The property is well-stocked and the kitchen has everything you could want for during your stay. Christopher was very responsive and provided detailed instructions for getting to/from the house. The house backs up to public property which we hiked to the top of several times and provided a panorama view of the area. We were able to see quail, numerous other birds, and a coyote from the house. Would recommend for anyone looking to stay in the Joshua Tree area!

I've stayed in many vacation rentals around the world, so I know what makes for a great stay. I love the Mojave Desert for its unique atmosphere year-round, and I've been hiking in Joshua Tree National Park for twenty-five years. I'm happy to share this unparalleled landscape with you.

Why they chose this property

The Dark Sky House borders a large tract of untouched public land, and the views of the expansive Joshua tree landscape are dramatic. The patio space has a dining table, barbecue, hammocks, and a gas fire pit. The spacious comfort of the house and its high-end finishes make for a luxurious desert getaway.

Environmental sustainability is built in to the Dark Sky House: The property complies with the latest version of California's strict energy efficiency laws, with heavy insulation, low-consumption heating and cooling, low-flow showers and toilets, and all-electric appliances running on the local electric grid that is currently about 30% from renewable sources. Linens and towels are washed with fragrance-free environmentally friendly soap.

What makes this property unique

The Dark Sky House is close to Joshua Tree National Park, the amenities of Yucca Valley, and the sights of Landers and Pioneertown. Less than an hour from Palm Springs, the house is extremely comfortable and recently renovated, with plush beds, a full chef's kitchen, and modern high-efficiency heating and cooling. The space at back of the house is completely private and allows for dark-sky watching at night. Plug in your electric vehicle to 220-volt, 40-amp power.
