Desert Vibe
Our host, Steph, was great… she stayed in touch to confirm that things were going well; excellent communication. The desert home was perfect with a tremendous view of the surroundings and nice outside seating/viewing. If you’re looking for an authentic desert retreat with nice amenities, this place fills the bill.

Great property very close to West entrance
We loved our stay here. The property has lots of character - all in a good way. Our first time visit to Joshua Tree and staying here was a great part of the experience. The park literally comes up to the house. We really enjoyed coming back to the house after a full day of hiking. Space is excellent. We cooked our dinners here and kitchen (and all else) works well. Communication with the host was outstanding. Highly recommend.

About the host

Hosted by Stephanie R.

Host profile image
Stephanie is a true Southern Californian, who spent her years growing up with a deep love of nature, from the desert to the mountains and oceans. She is a big believer in preserving and respecting natural environments and open space, and likes to think of her home and property in JTree as a sanctuary, not just to the people who visit, but also to the wildlife who have made this beautiful area their home. The night sky (especially when there is a meteor shower) and the clean air, makes this one of her favorite places on earth, and she considers herself to be very fortunate that she gets to be the caretaker of this special home and property.

Why they chose this property

Unlike some listings from investors and corporations looking to get into the rental market in this area, this property has belonged to owner Stephanie (and then boyfriend blues harmonica legend John "Juke" logan) since 1997, and renovated in 2015. The 2 remained friends through the years after splitting in 2002, always marveling at its healing power, sharing it with family and friends. The home has hosted incredible parties with musicians from all over the world, been a jumping off point for friends who are rock climber enthusiasts, and has been a perfect spot for Thanksgivings, Christmases, and, of course, meteor showers. Sadly, Juke passed away in 2013, and, after doing some wonderful updates and renovations, Stephanie is proud to open it up for more to enjoy, so others can create wonderful memories here as she has.

What makes this property unique

This home and property is equidistant to the park and the village, yet still had amazing privacy. The home is set up with amazing views all around from every window, and they made sure to purchase some extra acreage to ensure no other homes could be built to block the views. All left unfenced to make sure all natural wildlife can still live as they had, with the freedom to cross, hunt, and raise their young without encroachment. The original builder of the home put in two watering holes that are still in use, so all of us who have lived here have helped generations of desert critters thrive. This is a home that is personal, eclectic and very loved.
