Other things to note
Early Check in / Late Check out
High season at our place is May to August, so unfortunately we cannot accommodate an early check-in or late check out. We appreciate your understanding. Outside of our high season, we are happy to try our best to accommodate requests for early check in or late check out, when possible for a fee, but cannot be guaranteed. Please send us a message and we’ll see if it is possible.
Outdoor fire pit: Guests must supply their own firewood. There is an outdoor fire pit and seating for guests. Prior to burning of any kind, guests must call an automated burn notification hotline and register the six digit number at the top of the property’s burn permit. This automated hotline will also notify you if burning is prohibited or limited. Unfortunately we cannot control when burning is prohibited or limited as this is determined by the Fire and Rescue department of Prince Edward Country. Further instructions are located in the house and can be reviewed upon arrival.
Well Water System: Our property is situated in the country, and like many houses in Prince Edward Country, our home relies on well water system. We do have a UV light filtration system that makes tap water drinkable in the house. Please note one of the amazing things about living in the country is your connection with the land and water around you, this also comes with a level of responsibility and care that we must demonstrate for our water systems. Water is not unlimited like the City so please be conservative with water usage. Guests are not permitted to use our garden hoses.
Septic System: Our property is not on the municipal sewage system, and rather has a septic system. We kindly ask all our guests to help us care for the infrastructure. It is important to not flush any improper materials down the toilet. It is strictly prohibited to flush anything other than limited toilet paper and human waste. NO flushing baby wipes, hygiene wipes, feminine products, paper towels etc. as this can clog the septic system, and you will be charged for damages. We want you to have a pleasant and happy holiday and not have to deal with any issues that can arise from mismanaging how the toilets are used. Also since it is a septic system, please note no antibacterial products should be flushed in the sinks or toilets as this can also damage the natural ways in which septic systems use bacteria to breakdown the waste.
General Rules for using the waterfront, kayaks and paddleboards
- Swimming in the lake, and use of the kayaks and paddleboards are at the guests own risk.
- Children cannot be left unsupervised, the property backs into Lake Ontario and you must practice reasonable caution when swimming and playing in the lake.
Cleaning / Housekeeping
Waste / recycling: Country life is all about your amazing connection with nature, as such we encourage our guests to be respectful of the environment and be responsible with the disposal of their waste. Empty bottles should be taken home with you so you can return the same and obtain your bottle deposit refund. To discourage critters from being in the yard or around the house we ask that you do not leave any loose garbage bags outdoors, on the deck as they will become a nuisance and rip open bags. Upon departure ensure all garbage is bagged and placed in the bins outside.
During your stay: We do not provide daily housekeeping. Soiled towels, laundry, bed linens should be placed in the laundry hamper that is made available in the washroom
Please note that while this property is large parties are not allowed and there is a strict no tolerance policy for excessive noise.
Check Out – We have put a lot of love and care into our beautiful home that we are so excited to share with you. This beautiful home has been around for over a 150 years and we hope to continue to keep our century home in its best condition. So we request that you observe the rules noted and that you leave the house clean and exactly how it was upon your arrival. This includes leaving any furniture, kitchen and/or household items where you found them. We have also provide a check out checklist to assist you in doing the same. Unfortunately, if we find that these rules have not been observed and in extreme cases , excess cleaning will be deducted from your security deposit.
