Fogo Island Modern Cabin provided a dramatic stay for our first trip to Newfoundland. Situated on Shoal Bay, the setting was convenient to a local full grocery store, bakery, and art gallery. The location is also within very close driving distance to the town of Fogo, as well as Joe Batt’s Arm and Tilting, all of which present their own unique setting for dining options, art galleries, hiking opportunities, and beautiful vistas. Our host provided plenty of bottled water to cook with and drink since the well water is not recommended for drinking, though was suitable for bathing and washing clothes and dishes. However, the heavy mineral content of the water is noticeable in its use and smell at times in the bathrooms and laundry area. The loft may be difficult to access for some children and adults. That being said, my wife and I had an absolutely wonderful stay and very much enjoyed this home, along with the on-site dry sauna. We would definitely consider staying here again on another trip to Fogo Island.

Water is not drinkable or able to be used for washing and has a noticeable smell throughout the property. Mobility is a serious issue with no handrails on the stairs and the second bedroom is up a vertical ladder only. There are no blinds anywhere in the property. The kitchen was fine but didn’t have dishwasher, extractor fan/vents or microwave. The property is not as remote as the photos suggest, there is a large property very close by.
