About this property
The Foyle - Mount Victoria
Step into The Foyle Mount Victoria, one of three attached heritage listed Victorian terrace houses that once formed the first Mount Victoria Royal Bank during the 1880s. The Foyle is completely self contained and is the leftmost part of the building.
Lovingly restored by two generations, The Foyle terrace has been sympathetically restored, retaining original features such as the stained-glass windows and ornamental fireplaces whilst bringing in some modern comforts. There is a small fully equipped, updated and stylish kitchen and bathroom both downstairs. The Foyle can sleep up to four guests with two upstairs bedrooms (double beds).
The Foyle has its own private patio and seating area within a pergola overlooking the terrace gardens and neighbouring Mount Victoria Memorial Park. Please note some areas of the garden may be shared with guests staying in the attached terraces next door.
You will be staying at Mount Victoria, the highest point of the Blue Mountains, the most historic and heritage listed town in the Mountains. The Foyle is centrally located within walking distance to Cafes, Antique stores, a Museum, the Historic Mount Vic Flicks Cinema and the Train Station. In Mount Victoria within walking distance are spectacular local lookouts that provide views of bushland and rural valleys as well as several beautiful and rarely frequented historic bush walks.
Mount Victoria is the perfect position to explore other towns in the Blue Mountains, the Central West, Jenolan Caves and towns along the historic Bells Line of Road.
The Blue Mountains National Park can be accessed by car from the Eastern side of Mount Victoria. It is a short 5-minute drive to historic Mount York from the terrace (this is the original mountain pass of 1813).
Blackheath is the next closest village (about an 8-minute drive) and has a good choice of restaurants, cafes, gift and antique shops.
If you want to visit the Three Sisters or Scenic World, Katoomba it is only a 20-minute drive from Mount Victoria. The beautiful Wentworth Falls and popular shopping village of Leura are only a 25-30-minute drive.
It's a 30-minute drive to Mount Tomah Botanic Gardens and Mount Wilson's beautiful historic gardens. Jenolan Caves are about a 45-minute drive from the terrace.
There are no large shops in Mount Victoria, just a couple of local convenience stores if you need to pick up a few essentials. There are two small supermarkets in Blackheath, as well as a greengrocer, free range butcher and deli. Lithgow and Katoomba (20-minute drives in either direction) both have large chain supermarkets and department stores.
If you are travelling by train, it is best to bring your groceries with you, eat at the local hotels/cafes or order take away from the restaurants in Blackheath.
The terrace is easily accessible from Sydney by car on the Great Western Highway, with plenty of free street parking available directly in front of the terraces.
The terrace is also only a 2-minute walk from Mount Victoria train station. Trains arrive and depart for all villages and towns of the Blue Mountains as well as central Sydney.
For guests without a car who want to do lots of sightseeing, we recommend the "Blue Mountains Explorer Bus" that stops at many villages, lookouts and major tourist attractions in the Blue Mountains region. You can buy a ticket just outside Katoomba train station.
The indoor fireplaces are ornamental only and not to be used. There are plenty of other heating options available throughout the house.
Please take into consideration that both the bedrooms are upstairs which are narrow and steep and not suitable for elderly or those guests with limited mobility (pictured). Alternatively “The Bank House” has two ground floor bedrooms and "Lough Swilly” has one downstairs bedroom.
Please be aware there is no air-conditioning or cooling system at this property, however there are portable fans for the bedrooms and the house does catch a lovely breeze with the front and back doors open. Alternatively,"Lough Swilly" next door does have central cooling.
