BESSIEโS
This house was built by a Cherokee woman and her husband. The original house was located beyond the well where a rock wall can still be seen. They lived there while this house was completed. After he died, she continued to live here until she passed.
You might notice several of the light switches are lower than usual. Bessie was less than five feet tall. She used the back room as, what she termed, her Indian kitchen. It had a wood cook stove which she preferred. Her granddaughter upgraded the current kitchen but Bessie called it the White kitchen and continued using the one in the back. She always had a large garden on the flat to the right of the carport and used the rock BBQ pit to can her vegetables.
I can remember many times seeing her walk up and down the road looking for her sons. If I stopped, she would only speak to me in Cherokee. I was convinced she didnโt speak English until my wife remarked she just didnโt speak English to me.
We call this house Bessieโs in remembrance of her.
OVERVIEW You can enjoy 600 feet of flat creek frontage and a large expanse of grass with no neighbors. There are both front and back porches, a large fire pit with firewood, charcoal grill and picnic table in the back yard. Benches and a swing are overlooking the creek for quiet times. The house has 2 bedrooms and one bath. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other 2 twins. There is a full size pull out sofa in the back room. The living room has a reclining sofa and love seat and the back den a love seat, rocker and table desk. Both rooms have WiFi, TV with independent Netflix and ROKU operation with a DVD and VHS player in the den. The kitchen is stocked with the usual items including Keurig, drip and percolator coffee pots, microwave and dishwasher. Linens, paper goods and soap are furnished. Washer and dryer are off of the den. This house is located on the lower end of Little Snowbird creek about 8 miles west of town. The approach road is paved and the driveway is hard packed gravel with an adjacent carport. There is parking both on the driveway and above the house. The area offers boating at Santelelah Lake, the scenic Cherohala Skyway, The Tail of the Dragon with its many curves, for motorcycle enthusiasts, hiking the many trails in and around Joyce Kilmer National Forest. There is rafting and kayaking on the Nantahala river and of course great trout fishing on several creeks in the area. Fishing license can be bought online. It's recommended that groceries be purchased before arriving to save a trip back to town. Additionally, this is a dry county so any alcoholic beverages need to be brought in.

This is our second time at Bessie's and we enjoyed it just as much as our first! The cabin is quiet, cozy, and the river out back is so relaxing to sit beside. The owners make sure it's well stocked with anything you might need.
Quaint and clean. I am originally from this area and knew its location. It was just what i was looking for. Remote and no neighbors within line of sight.
This place is so special! Thank you for letting us stay. The creek was so much fun. The house had everything we needed, plus some. Everything was clean and comfortable. We loved the area and all the cool spots to explore, hike, and swim. It was awesome!
Beautiful place to just rest and relax. Well stocked home with everything we needed. Needs front porch cleaned.

Thank you for your review and hope you enjoyed your stay. We try to maintain a comfortable house which is queit and welcoming. As far as the front porch is concerned, I think what you thought was a lack of cleaning is non skid material applied to prevent slipping and falling on a surface which would otherwise be slippery. As far as the walls, we wipe them down and the next day they're the same.
Bessie's place was amazing...the inside was a little quirky but it's an old house. The back porch and private yard with a creek are so relaxing! It rained most of the days we were there but I sat on the back porch and listened to the rain and creek it was great. We will be staying here again!

Thanks for the review. I think we're a little quirky as well
My family thoroughly enjoyed our time here! With the large yard and creek in the back there was plenty of room for the kids to play and explore. The home was very clean and cozy.
Excellent quiet property with no visable neighbors, nice size stream loaded with large rainbow trout, house was a decent size and cozy with an excellent fire pit and charcoal grill outback, owners were freindly and gave helpful advice about the area and fishing techniques for the area 5 stars
We had a great stay and loved the accommodations. A beautiful spot on the creek. Great fun on the lake and the hiking is amazing. Thank you to the Millers for a wonderful vacation!
We chose this property AGAIN because we loved the cozy homelike feel. Also we loved the quietness of it. We live off of a busy street and constantly hear traffic and sirens 24/7. The only thing you hear here is the lovely sounds of the creek. We hughly recommend this property!
The property was beautiful and has a creek running the entire length.
We enjoyed the fire pit and outdoor grill immensely.
If you are looking for something off the beaten path this place is great!
really enjoyed this home for the third time will continue to stay for many years to come. Place is just right for my brothers and I and our 27th annual trout trip.
very comfortable, fully furnished, outdoor grills and firepit are really nice.
This was a week with the guys, riding our motorcycles and leaving the stress of every day life at home. We all enjoyed our stay at this property. The location was perfect and allowed us time to ride during the day and relax at night.
Everything about this place was exceptional!! The location on the creek in the foothills, the porches and fire pit outside, Mike & Joyce the hosts and all the things they did to make our stay awesome.
We will definitely do our best to make it back one day. We suggest you book well in advance for your stay.
The house was charming and very clean. The owners thought of everything you might need for a fun and relaxing stay. I was traveling alone, but would also recommend this property for families with children of any age. The kitchen is especially well stocked. Little Snowbird is a one of a kind place, and Little Snowbird Creek is gorgeous and will heal your heart.

Many thanks for your review and we hope you'll return soon.
We enjoyed our stay on Little Snowbird Creek. Everything was cozy, clean and relaxing. I would love to go back and explore the area again sometime.
The cabin was well equiped, especially the kitchen, and we didn't do without anything we needed.
It was very easy to communicate with Michael and Joyce and that is important! I would recommend this Cabin to everyone.
If you want to get away from it all this is the place to go. Well priced, cozy, and clean. Its close enough to town to get what you need but far enough out to not see hardly any cars. The creek is a bonus and the yard is a park like setting. The cabin is stocked well with everything you'll need. Just bring some food and drinks and enjoy!
Btw, great hosts too! We will definitely be back ๐๐๐
Clean an comfortable. Warm in spite of temperatures in the teens. The kitchen is very well equipped. The host, Mike Miller, was most helpful a d responsive.
Our stay at this rental was absolutely fantastic! The house was perfect in every way, and its location couldn't have been better for easy access to the Miata's at the Gap event. The accommodations were not only comfortable but also well-equipped, making us feel right at home. The attention to detail in the house's design and amenities truly exceeded our expectations. Plus, the proximity to the event made our experience even more enjoyable. We can't thank the hosts enough for providing such a wonderful place to stay.
