About this property

Historic Inglewood- Modern 3BR, Garage & Patio-Walking distance to Stampede

The location doesn't get better than this. Voted Canada's Best Neighbourhood in 2014 (and still earning that title!), Inglewood is Calgary's oldest/coolest neighbourhood. Our back gate is steps from the historic main street, home to many of the best chefs in the city, vintage boutiques, breweries, bars and truly great shopping. Our front door is a stone's throw to the Bow River Pathway--stroll, scooter or bike to majestic parks and nature preserves, or anywhere your heart desires. Downtown, the Stampede grounds, the zoo and so much more is within walking distance. You'll never find a better place to get your steps in! Clocking in at nearly 1700 square feet of living space plus a fully finished basement, this fully restored three bedroom home features a mid-century groove with beautifully appointed furnishing and decor that earns a second look in every room. The main floor features an open living space for lounging, a modern kitchen that is fully stocked with everything you'll need for a night in, sassy little breakfast nook and a dining room that makes eating take-out an occasion to remember. Out back, a deck built for the vibes, featuring vintage seating, modern grilling, surrounded by trees, flowers and enough solar lighting to help find your beer when the sun goes down. Upstairs, the primary suite features a vaulted ceiling, sculptural decor, walk-in closet and your choice of linens, blankets and pillows. The master bathroom keeps the serenity flowing with a jacuzzi tub, separate glass shower and little extras to ensure you'll want for nothing, A large second bedroom is an homage to Calgary's western roots and features a comfy queen, daybed for a little outlaw and a large closet to store your Levis. A full bathroom is just outside the bedroom, featuring tub & shower and plenty of storage, extra towels and those little extras you might have forgotten. Downstairs, a large third bedroom with twin beds is perfect for the kids or fellow travellers. Quirky western art and a huge closet makes this room both cool and practical. The vintage Stampede-themed Rec room is movie night ready, featuring a big sectional, a 65" Smart TV and a DVD library that is worth checking out. A classic games table and a large selection of games and toys should keep everyone busy long after the sun goes down.

About the host

Host profile image
I'm a former journalist and Calgary Herald's "Savvy Host" columnist. I spent a decade living overseas with my husband and kiddos (and an intrepid Jack Russel terrier named Angus). We called Moscow, Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City home--and hosted many friends and family over the years, These were indeed, exotic locations that made for great trips--as long as you knew where to go once you arrived. I've brought that same instinct home to our Inglewood rental property. My goal is simple: stay somewhere beautiful and get a comprehensive and curated neighbourhood guide, so you only hit the top spots, If you know, you know--and trust me, you'll know!

Why they chose this property

Inglewood was Calgary's first neighbourhood and thankfully it has been well-preserved, honouring its past while embracing the future. There are over 400 homes, businesses and industrial buildings that pre-date 1912 and many of my favourite haunts have hundred-year-old wood floors and original brick facades. In addition to being home to western Canada's first brewery (a tradition that remains alive and well), Inglewood was a scrappy blue-collar neighbourhood with some fine homes sprinkled throughout, It is an eminently walkable neighbourhood, but also walkable to many of the places Calgary is known for. But most of all, it is a tight-knit community that supports its local businesses, gussies itself up, and is as proud of its parks and nature preserves as it is its live music scene. Bon vivants are always welcome here.

What makes this property unique

I love design, have great fun with decor and can get a little cheeky with design elements. I had a lot fun creating this space--I wanted it to feel like you were borrowing your cool friend's pad for the week. Set in the heart of this uniquely wonderful neighbourhood, it's the perfect place to nest--and let the neighbourhood do the rest!
