Close proximity to Bridgewater Marina and restaurants. Easy access to the lake for boating. Plenty of room for entire family to relax together or separately. Bedding and bath towels provided by homeowner was a bonus.
Beautiful property, great location. Close to most of the main areas of the lake! We were the first to stay there after renovations so we encountered some small issues, dead lightbulbs, deck furniture needed a wipe, and there was no electricity/water on the dock. Again, nothing that was a huge deal, and still a fantastic place to spend a vacation at Smith Mountain Lake. Would recommend!
The house is amazing, the views of the Lake from every room in the house are incredible. The sunsets were beautiful. This was a family Thanksgiving get-away, 7 of us. We did alot of cooking and eating, great table space and living room area for all of us. There was more than enough room and I couldn't have been happier with the location,, amenities and comfort. The cold November days didn't stop us from enjoying the outdoor space. It is a very quiet neighborhood with deer roaming the streets. I can only imagine how great the warmer months are when you can take advantage of the lake! Maybe we will be back in the summer!
Had a great week at SML. House and in particular the boat house/dock were fantastic. Spent the evenings on the dock under the fans enjoying the sunsets. Natural beach area was great for our pups. The property owner was very easy to communicate with. Honestly, didn’t really need anything while there, but he made it very apparent that if we did need something, he would be there.
The owner was quick with his responses and made our stay easy. Loved that all linens and bath towels were included so I didn’t have to haul them back and forth. Kitchen was well stocked with dishes, etc. The dock is perfect for hanging out and watching the sunsets and its located in a great cove for paddle boarding. Im going to miss my coffee out on the back porch every morning! Great memories made this week 😊Loved this place!
This lake house was an ideal spot for our family to gather for a one week reunion. We were a group of 6 adults (my wife and I and our three adult daughters, one son-in-law, and one 5 year old grandson. The house was gracious and easy. Beautiful gathering spaces indoors and out. Meals could be indoors or out. Nice places for cocktails at brunch or dinnertime. Our host was helpful and very responsive.
Property owner is very nice, he was quick to respond and answer any questions or concerns we had.
Dock was large enough for all the family. Property owner was really good to us. Beds were comfortable and clean. House was stocked with more than we needed Nice home for any family. Thanks for a great week.
Toxic, harassing owner and house that is falling apart around you -- AVOID!
I've rented everything from a house boat to a treehouse with an outhouse, country houses, lake houses, beach houses, city condos and even a cave house. This house is beat down and broken, and the owner was harassing and threatening multiple times over the trip which scared me and my girls - took the fun out of what should have been a relaxing trip.
Dishwasher broken before we arrived. Then, within the first hours of arrival, we discover the cleaning crew barely touched the place. The stairs/carpet were visibly coated with dirt and dog hair, there was a MASSIVE spiderweb, kitchen had 1 set of dirty potholders and a used, unwrapped sponge for us to use.
When I sent photos of all these items to Peter via text, his response about the cleaning person was "WOW. She was there today for five hours". He did tell me about how "the previous owner had the carpet pretty dirty [the stains have] been there for many years and if you vacuum the dirt doesn't come out'.
Unbelievably, he then told me I had "very high expectations". Friends, when I'm spending over SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS A NIGHT, a clean house should be a given.
Subsequently, he admitted that the house had systemic electrical problems. He knew that the master bedroom had NO working lights (ceiling fan/light as well as wall lights didn't work), nor did any of the path lights to the dock. I personally had to excavate from overgrowth of vines at the bottom the stairs leading to the dock.
This house is an ADA nightmare. There are no handrails on multiple sets of interior stairs, including one that had NO walls for 3/4 of the descent so you have nothing to keep you from falling. Also rotting wood on the deck, broken closet doors, keyless entry pads wouldn't lock from the outside. washer didn’t work.
Re: dishwasher Peter said a new one would arrive in an 8am window, which is unacceptable because we are on vacation, late sleepers, and I don’t want to be up early to meet repair folks during my precious time off. Peter said he had a friend of his (aka a stranger to me) who come in *against my wishes very early when me and my family would be asleep*.
I was not comfortable with that AT ALL but his actual words to me in a text were "we are coming in. Period."
At this point, I blocked his cell and was scared so I called VRBO. My kids overheard me and were scared, and no one slept well that night.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!
This is a well stocked quirky and fun house, with great high speed internet, lots of streaming options and comfy beds and very nice linens for cozy nights inside. But the outdoor seating areas, dock and boathouse are the stars of this property.
We did not want to leave and spent almost every day paddling off the natural beach, floating beside the dock or seating in the cool shade by the lake. Incredibly relaxing.
Amazing location, sunset views, beach for launching kayaks
I love this location so much. You're at the mouth of a cove, so you have wide (and I mean WIDE) water views with beautiful sunsets, but you also have the privacy and calm waters of a cove, especially if you head to the right after launching your kayak off their little private beach launch (also, the floating dock worked perfectly for getting on & off the stand-up paddle-boards). We rented the kayaks and paddle-boards from Sups2Go and spent all week on the water, it was lovely. The private dock is so wonderful, with a table for coffee/snack time, and a set-up for lounging. There's a picnic table on the "mid-level deck" between the house and the dock, and you are treated to the most amazing views from there. The kitchen was really well stocked with really high-end top-of-the-line fridge and gas (yay, gas!) stovetop and oven. Washer & dryer came in handy since we were in the water most days. I also had to work remotely all week, so I can attest that the WI-FI really is top notch and worked great from every room in the house (it appears they have one of those mesh systems). Smart TV's so you can sign into all of your own accounts for Netflix, etc., and they had some live channels via Roku too. Well-stocked kitchen with pots, pans, tupperware, etc. They kindly provided all the linens & towels we could need. Two separate living rooms with TVs (one on lower level and one on mid-level), would have been handy if we were traveling with a bigger group. Comfortable beds. AND the Host - he was accessible, replied instantly, answered every question promptly, super nice guy, he genuinely seemed eager to make our stay enjoyable. We are already planning our next trip back!!!
