About Martha Howard, Realtor, EXIT Realty Gulf Shores
A native of Mobile, Alabama I grew up on two shores spending many days as a child on Pleasure Island and then traveling back and forth on summer days and weekends as a teen and young adult to bask in the sun on the white sandy beaches of Gulf Shores. In 1990 I bought my home on Little Lagoon in Gulf Shores where I raised my family while teaching high school in the area. Now, after retiring from nearly 30 years in education I manage rental properties and sell real estate enjoy inviting others to share the pleasures of the island and the Ft. Morgan peninsula. This house is one of several I rent to guests from around the world. Some I own and some belong to friends and neighbors. I have made many friends and always enjoy making new ones. It is my pleasure to see others enjoy a relaxing vacation in a home that is just right for them. As a licensed Alabama Realtor with Exit Realty Gulf Shores I can also assist guests with finding a perfect vacation, 2nd home, investment property or retirement home.

Why Martha Howard, Realtor, EXIT Realty Gulf Shores chose Gulf Shores
I bought this home because of its beautiful yard. The oaks with Spanish Moss, the view of the bay, the serene setting all appealed to me. The home was just a tool shed turned fishing camp then. While it was livable it needed some major updates and renovations which we undertook in 2005.
What makes this Cottage unique
This is the perfect get away for those who want to be away from the crowds or not right on the hot gulf beach. Its shaded screened back porch has a woodsy feel and a view of Mobile Bay. The yard is large and shady and guests can walk down to the bay. It is also only a mile from the Bon Secour National Wildlife Preserve where you find not only a great public beach access but also hiking trails and nature walks.

Home away from home
The shady shack was AMAZING!! It took our vacation to the next level! Towels, sheets, dishes! Fans in almost every room! And that beautiful screen porch! We didn’t want to leave! We will always remember having a perfect vacation thanks to the shady shack!
Very nice and clean cottage. Only issue is the driveway. Trees are on either side of Fort Morgan Rd. and no street lights. Traffic is right on your bumper at 55 miles an hour and was not able to see driveway. Drove passed several times and had to turn around and come back. Especially bad at night. Otherwise, excellent for dogs to run in the yard and exceptionally clean.
The cottage was lovely.
The property was everything we expected. Quiet out of the way on the bay side and a fenced in yard for our puppies. The screened in porch off the bedroom was an extra delight for us.
Loved our Shady Shack stay
Everything was as listed, and the house was so well stocked! We had family staying down the road renting a large house on the beach that slept 20, and they did not even have a dish towel!---they were amazed at how Martha and Wayne had thought of everything, even nightlights throughout! The kitchen had coffee maker, crockpot, blender, stand mixer, baking trays and dishes, glasses, baking utensils and 2 sets of dishes--too much more to mention. The hot water was hot and the air conditioner was cold. The back porch always had a breeze and it was great to have the fenced yard for our doggies. Our only glitch was the internet and phone did not work at all when we were there, but that was not their fault. Martha responded right away when we discovered the issue--Century Link could not do a service call for several days (it is fixed now).
Would suggest a sign that can be seen traveling east on Hwy 180, maybe a little closer to the road. We used landmarks to direct family there for visits--it is set back off the road. Missed the entrance traveling back from dinner the first night but were experts by the end of the week! Wonderful stay!
Great stay. Martha is wonderful and we had a great time !
Everything we Expected
The pictures and description of this property is perfect! The Shady Shack was perfectly clean when we showed up and she laid out step by step instructions on how to return the house to clean as we left. 100% will return again!!
The Fort Morgan peninsula is filled with local flavor and offers unique access to Mobile Bay, Little Lagoon and the white beaches of the Gulf of Mexico (just two miles from the house) The area is great for people who want to be away from the crowd yet close to shopping, entertainment and sports activities. A public boat launch is just three miles away. The Shell Banks reef is just out front for great fishing. The Bon Secour National Wildlife Preserve offers pristine gulf beaches, a wonderful hiking trail and birdwatching opportunities. Three golf courses are within a few minutes' drive. History buffs will enjoy the ruins and museum at Ft. Morgan and her sister, Ft. Gaines, which is a ferry's ride across to Dauphin Island.
