About the host
Hosted by Ramon Mejia Sanchez
I was born and raised in Dominican Republic. I migrated to USA in 1991 to do my master in Chemical Engineering. Once, I finished my master's degree I moved into New York City. It was very challenging for me to get a job as a Chemical Engineer given the fact the NYC is not a city of industries, instead, a city for business and services. Although my former professional background was Engineering, teaching was always in my blood consequently, I ended up working for the New York City Department of Education, first as a high school teacher, then as an assistant Principal, and my last seven years I have been working in the school district providing professional developments for teachers. In order to get my credential as an educator, I pursued a second master's degree in Education and a Doctorate' s degree in Educational Leadership. Throughout these years I become an USA citizen, although I love this country and I am very thankful for the great opportunities of reaching the American dream, it has also been in the back of my head to go back to my country of origen and make some contributions.
Why they chose this property
When I was 19 year old while I was in college in Santiago, a city one hour away from Sosua, one of my peers in college invited me to his house in Sosua for a weekend. This was the first time that I visited this beautiful town. During this very first visit to this town, I fell in love with its beaches, its people, and all of its surroundings. Back then, I made the following comment to my friend: "One day, I am going to own a property in front of this amazing ocean". Of course, back then, it was just a dream or an illusion. I love to travel, explore nature, history, and architecture. When I was younger these types of activities where not available to me. First of all , I come from a family with very limited resources in Dominican Republic, second, I was focused on pursuing my education, and lastly I grew up three beautiful children. Now that my children graduated from college and have stable jobs, me and my wife, we are taking advantage of these scarce opportunities that were pretty challenging for us to grab before. In addition to travel to almost every corner in USA including Alaska and Puerto Rico, lately we have traveled to different countries and iconic cities such as: Austria, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, England, Spain, and UAE. All these places have their beauties and wonderings, but in my opinion, not beaches like the beaches in Dominican Republic. Therefore, I bought this property as my vacation home hoping to share its beauty with people like you who are reading this story.
What makes this property unique
For me, the unique benefits of this small community are : (a) It brings tranquility, peace, and relaxation. (b) There is harmony between the garden, the infinite pool, and blue sky of the ocean, it is like you never get tired of the view. (c) Inside the villa, it fells like you are in one of the majestic buildings in Rome. I like that the town is very blended between the local people and foreigners representing different cultures.
