We've been coming to Gatlinburg since we were kids. Family vacations, big groups, just the four of us — it was always the mountains. When we finally had the chance to own a piece of it, we didn't have to think long. We chose the top of the mountain because that's where it feels different.
Haus of the Rising Sun sits at the very top of Ski View Drive in Panorama Point, above Ober Gatlinburg at one of the highest residential elevations in the area. The views from both decks stretch across Mount LeConte, the Gatlinburg valley, and Pigeon Forge beyond. On clear mornings the sunrise comes up over the ridgeline while fog sits in the valley below you. It's the kind of thing you don't expect until you're standing there.
THE SPACE The cabin sleeps 7 comfortably. Downstairs is a king master suite with a full en-suite bath and direct access to the deck. Upstairs is a second king suite with a Jacuzzi jetted tub in the en-suite, a twin kids nook off the bedroom, and a queen pullout sofa — a flexible space that works well for families. The living area has a wood-burning fireplace that runs October through March and an electric fireplace upstairs year-round. The kitchen is fully equipped for real meals, not just coffee and takeout. Three TVs with streaming throughout.
OUTDOOR LIVING Step outside to the covered hot tub on the deck and you'll understand why most guests spend more time out there than they planned. Gas grill with propane, deck dining table, rocking chairs. The community pool is a short walk and open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
We self-manage both properties and pick up the phone when guests call. After years of vacationing here ourselves, we know what makes a Gatlinburg trip worth the drive.
BOOKING BOTH CABINS? Haus of the Setting Sun is directly across the street and sleeps 5. Together both cabins sleep 12 with separate spaces and shared mountaintop views. Good for reunions, multi-family trips, and groups that want to be together without being on top of each other.

We have stayed here twice. We love the location because it’s on top of the mountain. The view is gorgeous, and the hot tub is so relaxing! My children enjoyed having their own living area upstairs, too.
The views are spectacular, better than any of the paid attractions we went to around Gatlinburg (though they’re still fun). Came at the end of October and getting to look at the foliage in the hot tub was one of my favorite parts of the trip. The space was perfect for 4 friends and the owner was very responsive.

Awesome views
This was probably one of the cleanest places we stayed on the trip it was very well equipped.
The twin bed upstairs was the perfect set up for my son.

Glad it felt clean and easy right from the start—that’s always what we aim for. That upstairs setup ends up being a great spot for kids, sounds like your son claimed it quick. And those views up there don’t hurt either once you settle in. Come back and see us again at Roaring Bear Cabins anytime.
The view was amazing. Beautiful mountains by day and glittering city lights at night. The unit was well appointed with everything we needed to prepare meals. It was spacious and comfortable. We plan to stay here again next year.

Beautiful stay on top of the mountain
We’ve been staying in this cabin for several years and the view never gets old!

That view never really gets old, does it—especially being up there at the top. We appreciate you coming back over the years, that means a lot to us. Sorry you ran into the issue with the shower, that’s not the kind of experience we want anyone having and we’ve taken a look at it on our end. Hopefully next time it’s back to the kind of stay you’ve had there before. We’d be glad to have you back at Roaring Bear anytime.
This little chalet was a great stay. The view is amazing. Very comfortable living area and fully stocked kitchen.

Fall Break
View of exceptional and the kids loved the whirlpool tub!!
The layout of the house was beautiful and relaxing with a warm comfy decor.
The drive up the mountain was a challenge with my truck, will take the smaller SUV next time.
Just minutes from all the great attractions and National Park.

That’s a solid fall break right there. Sounds like the kids found their spot upstairs and the hot tub got plenty of use, which is usually how it goes. And yeah, that drive up can be a little tight in a bigger truck, but most folks figure out what works pretty quick. Hard to beat being that close to everything while still feeling up on the mountain. Come back and see us again at Roaring Bear Cabins.
We loved the views and the property was pristine and clean. It was by far the best place our family has stayed in the smokies and we will be staying there again!

Perfect Girls weekend!
This chalet and the whole community was absolutely adorable! Me and my daughters stayed 2 nights in the Haus of the Rising Sun and we were ready to just move in! It had all the amenities you would need and more! The hot tub was so relaxing and the beds were comfortable. Our absolute favorite part was the top deck and the AMAZING sunrises and sunsets! We could’ve stayed out there all day!

That sounds like about as good a girls weekend as you can ask for. The top deck at Rising Sun has a way of pulling people out there for hours once you catch those sunrises and sunsets—easy to lose track of time. Glad the hot tub and everything else hit right for you all. Come back and do it again anytime at Roaring Bear Cabins.
Our first time visiting the Smoky Mountains and this property was perfect! Very clean, well maintained and thoughtfully furnished. Had everything we needed. Stunning views of the mountains!
The Haus of the Rising Sun was great for my family of 4! We each had our own space and the views are to die for! There was a bear seen once in the backyard area during our stay according to the neighbors (we missed it ). I would highly recommend and if we come back to the area, we would definitely stay here again!

Great family friendly chalet!
The first thing we noticed when we walked through the door was the amazing smell. The decor was very homey and comfortable. The location is incredible. Hands down the most beautiful place we’ve stayed in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. The upper deck was perfect for enjoying early morning coffee. The road up the mountain was a little scary at first but once we got used to it, it wasn’t so bad. Overall, we had a great experience!

Thank you, April! We're so glad the location and atmosphere made such a strong impression — that mountain smell and morning deck coffee are hard to beat. We take guest comfort seriously and regularly assess the property to make sure everything is in top shape. We'd love to have your family back!
Haus of the Rising Sun was a great stay for our family. We enjoyed the area along with the great views from the house. The hot tub and pool were an added bonus. Thanks
The place was clean and the beds were great. The hottub was amazing after a long day of walking. Once the weather cleared, the view on the deck was beautiful.
Will definitely stay here next time!! 100% worth the windy mountain roads for a million dollar view. House had everything well stocked, clean, and helpful info!
This house has a wonderful panoramic view of the mountains. We loved spending the mornings and evenings on the deck and in the hothub. The kids loved the pool and we all loved the games provided to play. Amazing place to just stay and enjoy nature.

About the host
Hosted by Suzanne & Wayne
We're Suzanne and Wayne, from Louisiana. We've been bringing our family to Gatlinburg since our kids were small — big family trips, other families along, just the four of us. We fell in love with the mountains early and never really got over it. We've owned several properties in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge area over the years. Rising Sun and Setting Sun are the two we kept. We self-manage both and are reachable when you need us.
Why they chose this property
When I first saw the view from this deck, my husband told me to cover my eyes until we got to the top. The minute I opened them I knew. We've owned other properties around here but there's something about being above it all — above Ober, above the clouds some mornings — that we never wanted to let go of. We bought it so other families could have that moment too.
What makes this property unique
At the top of Ski View Road above Ober, one of the highest residential elevations in Gatlinburg, with panoramic views of Mount LeConte, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the valley that no cabin lower on the mountain can match.
