About this property

Lovely Waterfront Cottage with Great Views, Sunsets

Yellow Dog Cottage is on a dead end road located in a sunny clearing right at the ocean’s edge. Out front is a cove that forms a network of tidal pools at low tide that are great for exploring. It's a comfortable, peaceful and relaxing place to spend your vacation.

The house has an open floor plan with a fireplace in the living room that opens onto an well-equipped, eat-in kitchen with everything you’ll need to feel at home. The sun porch off the kitchen has windows on 3 sides and 180-degree water views and is great for reading, eating, relaxing, and playing cards, board games and doing puzzles.

You can enjoy fresh-caught lobsters delivered to our dock by our caretaker who lobsters in the bay off the house.
Outside, we have a gas grill, picnic table, outdoor fireplace and Adirondack chairs down by the water’s edge. We have our own ramp and float, a deep-water mooring in front of the house, and a natural boat launch that great for putting in kayaks and canoes.

We're located just off Muscongus Bay, which boasts some of the best kayaking, sailing, and motoring on the coast of Maine and is just minutes away by boat. Town, with local supermarkets, cafes, gas stations, and drugstores and the famous Moody's Diner, are about 20 minutes away by car.

We welcome your well-behaved dog with prior approval and an additional fee -- please inquire. Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the house or on the porches.

Conveniently located halfway between Friendship and Waldoboro, it's an easy day trip to all of coastal Maine's attractions. It's just 45 minutes to Boothbay Harbor, and the Camden, Rockland, and Rockport areas. It's 90 minutes to L.L. Bean, Freeport's outlet shopping, Popham Beach, and Reid State Park, and just two hours to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.

I spent my summers growing up in Maine and introduced my husband to it before we were married. He (happily!) loved it as much as I did and 15 years ago we decided to look for our own place on the coast. We love spending time at Yellow Dog Cottage whenever we get the chance and also love sharing it with our guests.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this property before we even got out of the car. I remember stepping out of the car on a beautiful November day, instantly in love with the view and the remarkable quiet. We actually purchased the house without ever having been inside, relying just on our peeks through the windows and the photos my parents took on a walk through they generously did for us after we had to return home. We still love spending time there, excited to arrive and sad to leave.

What makes this property unique

We love our house and the area. Waldoboro is a bit sleepy, even in the summer, off the main tourist path but with just enough to do. Many people familiar with the coast of Maine haven't heard of it, which is just how we like it. It's a great central location for day trips to all the wonderful places Maine has to offer.
