Cozy River Cottage on Dougan Falls

Cozy dwelling on the Washougal River nestled in plush woodlands with the dramatically beautiful Dougan Falls located ON the property. Less than an hour from Portland Airport, this retreat offers a vibrant riverscape and access to the many forest trails or nearby Columbia Gorge--or just sit out on the riverfront deck and be soothed by the sounds of falling water and birdsong. Lots of inspiration for artists, writers, readers, thinkers, and contemplators--or just a chill getaway for someone who's been working too hard! And oh yes, the flow of the waterfall at night is wonderful to float you right into dreamland.

Our 4 bedroom house sits on 28 acres that includes Dougan Falls. As pictures reveal, this is a true getaway. The house is equipped with WiFi. There are two TVs, both with Direct TV. Very comfy beds with clean, quality bedding.

In winter it is very private and on hot summer days you will see people swimming and floating on the river. There is a deck overlooking the Washougal River that is perfect for having a BBQ. Plenty of parking and a private drive with a gate. Large enough for RVs. If you really want a get-out-of-town experience and only a short drive from Portland, this is it.

We have a Ring doorbell by the front door. Also, a driveway camera that shows the entry driveway to the street.

Quiet Paradise

Just what we needed to rejuvenate. This was the most peaceful location we have stayed at. The sound of the river is hypnotic. Such beauty! Everything was perfect.

Serene relaxing location!

This property is located right on the falls. The sounds of the falls and nature are so relaxing and peaceful! Owners are great to work with and communication was fabulous. Owners have supplied the home with many essentials! Owners have been renovating parts of the home and can’t wait to see the changes they continue to make! Great place to get away from everything!

Nature lover's paradise

Stellar location! Great hosts have provided everything needed to be comfortable and nature provided the entertainment. Ducks, kingfishers, hummingbirds and an eagle soaing above the Washougal River. Melodious waterfalls right outside the door. We enjoyed cooling off on the river rocks and hope to return during high water to see the falls at their peak.

Beautiful views and access to amazing swimming spots

We absolutely loved our time by Dougan Falls. Those days will always be a treasured family memory. The location is amazing with a short path down to the river and plentiful pools for a dip. The falls are glorious. One thing to note — if you’re looking for complete solitude, just know people hang by the river across from the house (never bothered us at all but I could see it bugging someone like my mother haha). The gardener does a wonderful job with the yard and we really enjoyed playing corn hole. So grateful for Tom’s considerate and warm care all throughout our stay! Look forward to visiting again!

Awesome getaway

What a beautiful place to get away to. We really enjoyed the river and waterfall. There are benches right by the falls and a table by the river. It was serene and relaxing. The window room was great to sit in the mornings and enjoy the view. The home is very comfortable and had everything we needed during our stay. We had a great time. We grilled chicken (charcoal provided), had a fire in the firepit, played cornhole (provided), watched movies by the fire while relaxing on the recliner sofa. The coffee bar was great with bean grinder, coffee pods and a coffee maker. The kitchen had everything you need, including a variety of spices. The beds are comfortable. We spent a day seeing the waterfalls in the area. There were some issues with wifi going in and out, so know that your cell phone may not work properly all the time. Tom was great, responsive, helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciate all of the work and attention to detail. Dave, Dawna, Dan and Teri

Fantastic Views

The view of the falls is amazing. The property is very remote. Home was clean and warm since we visited in colder weather. A cute fireplace adds to the warmth and ambience of the home. Beds were amazing. It is an older home but renovations are definitely in process. We had a total of 8 at times and never felt crowded. The sunroom is a definite plus. If there is inclement weather or just chilly, it's great to sit and watch the river while drinking your morning coffee. A book is available for directions on how to work appliances and what to do. Very helpful and detailed. My only regret is that there we didn't have more time to explore the area close to the house. Lots of trails and things to see. The home is about a 35-40 minute drive into town. There is a convenience store which is much closer for quick items. Very nice time. Thank you Tom and Teri for allowing us to use your home. KB

One of those places that pictures just don't do it justice...Have to see to believe!

Wow..... what a dream come true!! Not only was this an experience of a lifetime, it was such a pleasure dealing with the wonderful owners, Tom and Teri. Just the nicest people in the Universe.......who both excel in the attention to detail department. There was not one thing we needed that they didn't have at the cottage. FAR exceeded our expectations and wishes on all levels. 🥰 The moment we drove up, we knew we were in a special kind of paradise......then opened the door to find there was a piano!! 🎹 My son plays........ so, the enchanting home was filled with beautiful piano music throughout the trip! Turned the fire on, opened every window to hear the incredible waterfalls, poured our wine, and had the biggest smiles we could ever imagine. There are a plethora of waterfalls within a 40 min drive to explore..... Multnomah Falls, Horsetail Falls, Fairy Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and many many more. What beyond beautiful adventures we had!! Honestly, if you are fortunate enough to book time at this Oasis in the woods......... you can consider your life complete. Amazing!

We just spent 3 magic days at the waterfall property celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary. The layout of the house is perfect, comfortable and spacious with great transitions to the outside world. And ...the outside world is absolutely breath taking. The power of the mountains and the roaring river/waterfall will amaze. Thank you so much, we are already planning our return.

Impressive Falls

Stayed a week at the property. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The river/falls were impressive (we had lots of rain the week of our stay and the river was running really high). Property is very secluded, with the occasional people across the river admiring the falls. House is dated (which was fine with us) and the owner is clearly going through an upgrade process. Be prepared to have dogs on leash (no fenced yard). Wifi is fine (weather dependent because it is satellite). No cell service, no deliveries. Well stocked kitchen. We would like to come back in the summer where we could spend more time outdoors.

Gorgeous View

This is a modest and cozy home on an incredible property with impressive views of the Washougal and Dougan Falls. Our family of four spent little time in the house, preferring instead to sit on the deck, play in the yard, or walk to the Dougan Falls Recreation Area for hours of river play. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We hope to come back in the summer months.

Beautiful

Great place, so peaceful. Very well stocked with everything you need to cook including spices, paper products, two coffee makers, tea pot and so much more. If you want a quite, beautiful, out of the way place to go this is the place for you.

Beautiful House in a Beautiful Setting

This house was wonderful! Plenty of room for our family of six adults to enjoy on our first visit to this area. The house was very well equipped with plenty of kitchen items, towels, bedding, etc. Loved the personal touches as well (lotion in bathrooms, few drinks in fridge, microwave popcorn). The labels indicating what all the remotes went to was very much appreciated. Had fun playing the bananarama game at night, after exploring the area during the day. We enjoyed having our breakfast in the glassed porch overlooking the river/falls. The setting is straight out of a magazine picture! The scenery is stunning! (Although I will add that the road to this house is very curvy, winding, and very dark at night- no lights on 2 lane roadway.) Communication with the owner was easy and responses were quick. This house is beautiful, scenery is amazing, owners were awesome to communicate with, and we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you very much!

The most peaceful place in the world

We dozed, we hiked, we did puzzles, we cooked, we read, we fell in love with the entire property. The appliances are brand new and spotless, the beds are comfortable, the river / falls are right in the backyard, and we are totally restored from our vacation. Remote paradise awaits

Trip to Washington

Beautiful house equipped with everything you can imagine and more. Comfortable beds, gorgeous views from all the rooms, amazing sun room with waterfalls view. Our goldendoodle enjoyed his runs in the grassy yard. Unbearable nature, great walks , deck for barbecue with amazing views. Loved, loved, loved our 3 night stay. What a view!

They place sits nestled in the woods overlooking the falls, sleeping to the sound if water rushing and frogs serenading, couldn't have asked for more!
