You can enjoy peace and quiet except for the lull of the river. It's about 15 minutes to Ruch where there is a market and a couple of restaurants, then another 10 minutes to Jacksonville where there are endless things to do.
You most definitely need a car. Must be at least 25 years of age to book.

The natural setting, the unique house, and hidden spot down by the river where wonderful. Check in and out was easy and the property has a refreshing uniqueness to it. Had a blast in Jacksonville, Ashland, and Medford.
My friend and I stayed here and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the many different seating areas, the well stocked kitchen, the large back deck, and of course the beautiful river view! Would love to come back soon.
We had a lovely time here. Very private, and we really enjoyed being right on the river. The bedrooms face the river and the sound of the rushing water was so soothing while we slept. The kitchen was well-stocked with all essential equipment. We would certainly stay here again.
This property was such a wonderful place to enjoy nature! From the sound of the river to the deer dozing in the yard. We utilized all the darling outdoor spaces available to us!!
Beautiful inside, with an incredible location right on the Applegate River (with river access!), this home is fully and thoughtfully appointed with everything you need to enjoy your vacation. It's comfortable, spacious, private, and has lots of lovely vignettes to enjoy sitting at for your morning coffee or evening happy hour. We loved exploring the Applegate Valley with this as a home base, but you could also enjoy just staying put - it's that nice. We can't wait to go back!
We wanted a place to disconnect and just be together. This was it. A 5 min drive to the lake, central to all the fun things in the area, and a peaceful setting. We cannot wait to visit again. My kids now want to move there.
Loved the sound of rushing water and sitting/eating areas that enhanced the view. Loved the little "fun" touches making the home feel welcoming. Especially loved the double railing on stairs which helped in the ascending/descending during the middle of the night! The antiques were lovely. The manager was very available.
The house itself is beautiful - big and full of interesting things that you don’t stop noticing. There is a lovely little path down to river which was tranquil. We spent every evening sat down there. The location is perfect, 5 minute drive from Applegate lake, where we spent most of the week. The area is great for hiking, biking and water sports. Could not fault it, and the property manager made everything super easy and welcoming. Definitely recommend a stay!
House is just as shown on the inside. Super comfy and well equipped. Really large bedrooms and great kitchen. Was under the impression the property was super private, but turns out it’s right on the access road to the lake. On a positive, the deer were abundant and the water rushing out back is absolutely amazing! Host was great with communication and would rent again if in the area.
Both the house and the river are more gorgeous than we imagined. Deanna was great to communicate with. The house was spacious and the decks and yard are amazing. Sitting on the chairs down by the river was the best, but then so was sleeping with the sound of the river outside our windows. It was all the best!!!
This is the second year we have had a vacation here and we love it. If I could give it more that a five star review I would! The improvements they have made to the property have modernized it but without loosing its quirky charm. Mix this with relaxing by the river in the evening, saying hello to the deer that pass through the garden in the morning, and enjoying everything that Applegate lake has to offer, I can’t think what more you can want. We were sad to leave.
The home and property were better than we could imagine! The view from every window was gorgeous! Coming back after a day of hiking was calming and I ended every evening down by the river in my blue chair. There was a doe almost every morning and evening in the yard and best of all was the doe with her twin fawns! I could keep the praises going! Thank you!
This home was fantastic!!! There were 3 of us (my husband and my teenage daughter and me) and we had sooo much room. Our beds were incredibly comfortable and the owners really thought of everything that you could possibly need. The kitchen was well stocked with oils, spices, pots and pans. The grill was great (Weber) and we used it nearly every night. There were so many cozy little books to cuddle up with a book and just lose yourself to the sound of the river. And it was absolutely adorable decorated. A perfect mix of vintage, modern and functional.
You really are in the middle of nowhere so plan accordingly. We bought groceries at Cartwright's and got necessities at the main street liquor store in Medford and we were set for the entire week. (There was even a pitcher for our margaritas at the house that we used every day!)
We went to Jacksonville for some fun shopping, Wildlife Images Rehab to see the work these amazing people are doing, petted alpacas and enjoyed wine at Rellik winery, sat by the river and tasted more wine at Red Lily winery, swam in the reservoir about 10 minutes from the house, went to Pennington Farms (twice) for cookies and snacks and just enjoyed the beautiful property that we were on.
We saw deer, squirrels and turkeys and we even had a baby fawn and her mama make a stop right by the front door of the house!!! Truly a most relaxing vacation that we would highly recommend to any family that just needs to take a moment and breathe. We will be back!
My family rented this beautiful spacious house perched on the Applegate River for almost a full week. It was perfect for us! Comfortable beds, big fully equipped kitchen, lots of places to eat inside and outside and the best river views. We loved the cool evening breezes off the water. This house is close to the wineries in Jackson County and Historic Jacksonville. We enjoyed this vacation home very much and will definitely return!!
The place is about 30 minutes outside of Jacksonville so you get the benefits of restaurants and shops but also the seclusion of the Applegate Valley and riverfront property. Great place for a family vacation.
We loved our stay at the River House. Being by the river was heaven. There were only two things we’d give a heads up on: (1) The listing says it sleeps 6. While technically accurate the reality is it only has two bedrooms. The third bed is in the middle of the living room. And (2) The second bedroom upstairs had almost no air conditioning. Our daughter had to sleep downstairs a couple of nights because it was just too hot.
Stayed here for a mellow Girlfriends Getaway! The deck and bay window “nook” were our favorite spots to gather.
The town of Jacksonville was about 30 min away and great for shopping and dining. Loved the property and the constant sound of the river!
