Watauga Lakeside Cabin - Decks, Ponds, Family & Pet Friendly Privacy
WELCOME to 822 Sugar Hollow Welcome to your private mountain and lakeside retreat -- new, peaceful, and located on the southeast side of Watauga Lake with full access to a boat ramp and small floating dock. My three sons and I are happy to host you and hope you enjoy this special place as much as we do.
The three-level cabin was built in 2020, of hand-crafted wood and stone, with windows everywhere to let you take in the beautiful surroundings. There are three decks: one on each level and two that span the length of the home. The propane grill and fireplace are on the main-level deck, which wraps around to a front porch. On all levels, there are stunning views of the property, its ponds, streams running down to the lake, and the mountain ridgeline beyond.
From the cabin’s quiet decks, you can see the lake only a few hundred yards away, and you have semi-private, full-time access (along with seven other homeowners in the Sugar Cove neighborhood) to the Sugar Cove boat ramp and floating dock. Bring your boat, wave runners, canoes, or kayaks! Watauga Lake is one of the cleanest in the United States, and affords multiple recreational opportunities, including outstanding lake trout and bass fishing. The main public recreational area is about a 15-minute drive from the cabin. For hikers, the Appalachian Trail crosses Route 321 about twenty minutes’ drive from the cabin and numerous other trailheads are an equally short drive away. Roan Mountain and one of the most beautiful stretches of the Appalachian Trail is a 30-40 minute drive south and 4,000 feet of elevation up from where the cabin sits at about 2,000 feet.
Inside, the cabin easily sleeps 8, depending on who’s comfortable sleeping next to whom.
Upper Level: one king bed master suite with a balcony looking towards the lake and a 43 inch Smart TV, plus a queen-sized sleeper sofa in the separate, adjacent loft. Main Level: second king bed master suite, with a spa tub and shower. The large, modern kitchen with granite countertops, gas fireplace, and a half bath powder room are located on the Main Level. The main level also features a 65-inch Smart TV. You can access the main wraparound deck, with gas grill, gas firepit, and outdoor seating from this level. Lower Level: one queen bed with a twin XL trundle, and a new (March 2024) queen-sized bed. The Lower Level is a perfect retreat, complete with its own full bath, a sitting area with several chairs, a 55-inch Smart TV, and full laundry room. We also keep at least one sturdy sleeping cot on the Lower Level, in case of last-minute additions of friends and family to your traveling group. Access to the garage and lower deck is from this level.
You may not want to leave once you’re settled here, relaxing on one of the decks, listening to the creeks and springs alongside the cabin, which feed into a network of natural ponds and then down to the lake, or enjoying the stone fire pit that my sons and I built with the help of a local artisan—no need to bring your own firewood, as the property naturally has plenty. If you do venture out, Elizabethton, Tennessee is a 30-40 minute drive west, and Boone and Banner Elk, North Carolina (including the Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain ski areas), are about the same drive times southeast and south, respectively. On the eastern side of the lake, there is also a winery, Villa Nove Vineyards (check for updated business hours).
Multiple marinas ring the lake. Pioneer Landing marina and campground, to the northeast, and Mallard Cove marina, to the west, are the closest to the cabin. Boats of various shapes and sizes are available for rent at Fish Springs Marina, a few miles west of the Hwy 321/67 intersection.
Welcome and enjoy your stay!

Our stay was wonderful, we had a lot of fun everywhere we went to specially at the local wineries. I’d only recommend to have some sort of adult entertainment areas like a foosball or pool table other than that everything else was amazing.
The pictures don’t do this cabin justice. It was beautiful and cozy. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed for cooking, making a fire in the fire pit and keeping warm. The owners responded quickly and put a big lighted Christmas tree up for us and the kids.
We stayed at this beautiful cabin in for my brother-in-law’s wedding and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The place was peaceful and offered stunning views of the mountains. It was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some quiet time between wedding events. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!
The house is very comfortable, well-maintained, and clean. It's everything you'd expect and much more. The only thing that might not be up to par with the price paid and the rest of what we found in the house was the insufficient number of towels for guests. We were a group of 10 and only had 8 towels for 5 days. It doesn't make sense to put so much effort into making guests feel comfortable only to have a lack of towels prevent us from saying our stay was truly enjoyable because we had to share towels in the middle of winter.
Host communicates well. Property is perfect for three sets of couples, plus a few kids and pets. Clean and comfortable. Very private lake access. Our second time here and plan to come back again!
Great place to stay! Especially for us because we attended a wedding event at Sugar Hollow Retreat which is only 8 minutes away. Rarely did we see vehicles driving by, which added to the coziness of the cabin-in-the-woods-like vibes. The road into the house has a very remote little-used feel to it, but easy to navigate if you drive slowly, and actually quite fun to drive! We did have cell phone service at the house, mostly 4gLTE sometimes 5g. I was also very pleased to not see one 5000k LED light bulb anywhere, all lights were an appropriate color temperature that enhanced the warm feel of the space.

Gerald, thank you for staying with us, and glad you enjoyed your time at the lake cabin in Sugar Hollow. It's definitely convenient to the SH Retreat wedding/event venue. I'm happy to hear you had cell service too, as a backup to the cabin's reliable broadband WiFi. Please visit us again for more peace, quiet, and warm (not over-LED'd) cabin vibes. - Dave, John, Tommy, and Jack.
Had an awesome time! The cabin was super cozy, clean, and just as pictured. The location was peaceful and perfect for unplugging. The host was easy to work with and everything went smoothly. I’d definitely recommend it!
Great property for our multi-family trip. Our kids loved the decks, and the kitchen was very well appointed. The roads were a little tricky to navigate at night but no problem at all during the day! Dave was super accommodating and had great communication. Super clean, and comfy beds.

Rachel, very happy to hear that your family and your friends' families enjoyed the lake cabin, and found it comfortable and well-stocked. I'll pass along the compliments about cleanliness to our first-class cleaning crew. Thank you for choosing us as your hosts, and please visit again. - Dave, John, Tommy, & Jack
My family and I stayed here for a father's day gift. We had a great time being able to just be us for a weekend, and not have to worry about the outside world. Our stay was very relaxing. The beds were comfortable, and everything was very clean.
This was our second summer staying at the cabin and again we had a great time. There was a minor issue with the upstairs A/C unit not working. We let our host know and he quickly had a temp unit sent out and set up until the unit could be fixed. We have no complaints and had a wonderful stay. I would definitely recommend a stay here and I’m sure we will be back again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Codevila cabin. The cabin provided a great home base for our family while enjoying Watauga Lake and exploring Boone, Blowing Rock and more. We are already looking forward to our next stay.
