About this property
Thatched Roof, Elegant Cottage in Doolin, Spectacular Views, Tranquil
This beautiful home in Doolin, Ireland was built in 1998 as a traditional, thatched-roof, Irish cottage and contains all modern amenities.
Each of the bedrooms is en suite, with antique pine furniture. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the two guest rooms each have twin beds. The master bath has a bathtub and shower. The house has wireless access.
The Great Room has a two story fireplace, conveniently gas fired. There is a panoramic conservatory with 180 degree views, including Cecil B. Demille sunsets.
The view from the house was featured in the September 2007 issue of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The striking Doonagore Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Ireland, is located immediately down the hill from the cottage and is framed by the conservatory windows. A round tower built c.1350, Doonagore Castle was entirely restored in 1975.
The cottage is surrounded by grazing cattle, lending another level of tranquility to the idyllic setting.
A circular driveway brings guests close to the front door, should there ever be inclement weather! We joke that our favorite occupation is sitting in the conservatory and watching the weather change.
When the cottage was being built, one of the builders suggested naming the cottage. He said we should name it Draiocht, which means a magical place, and it is.

The home was clean. It had everything you could possibly need the instructions on starting the fire. We’re very clear and the view was magnificent. If you’re coming to Doolin this is the place to stay.
Our Doonagore Farm experience exceeded our expectations. The castle view sunsets and gathering in the sunroom was amazing. We had so much fun and the property is beautiful. Thank you!
Absolute 5 star stay in Doolin. Our family loved this cozy cottage. A wonderful home base to visit the Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher, The Burren and more. We loved morning coffee and evening family games with a truly magical view. Thank you for sharing your home!
What a beautiful home! Clean, comfortable, and with an incredible view! Our favorite features were the conservatory overlooking the castle and the Atlantic, and the spacious layout with bedrooms and bathrooms on opposite ends of the house, which provided plenty of privacy. The kitchen was very well appointed, and the location was perfect for day trips and exploring the area. The host was extremely helpful and accommodating, especially when we realized we had left a jacket behind. She quickly made arrangements for us to get it back, which we truly appreciated. We would absolutely choose this rental again!
Spent four glorious days in Doolin. The Doonagore Cottage was certainly one of the highlights - just a perfect spot from whence to enjoy all that Doolin has to offer.
We spent an absolutely magical week in this beautiful home! The views, the neighborhood, the home itself, was absolute heaven on Earth! Hope to return again!
It was a super place. Well furnished. Very homey. Incredible view of Doonagore Castle directly in front and below and through to a full view of the wild Atlantic Way and the Aran Islands. Cows were grazing in front of us.
We loved our stay in the thatch roof cottage. The house itself was so charming and cozy, and the views/setting were amazing! A short 5 min drive into Doolin.
Very nice cottage, with a beautiful view of a castle, the town of Dingle and the ocean. Was a great home base to explore the area. We really enjoyed our stay.
So much to love about Doolin...Six days just weren’t enough to fully enjoy everything this wonderful home and its surrounding area have to offer. Spectacular scenery, delicious food, traditional music, and warm hospitality are plentiful in the charming town of Doolin. I had grand plans of spending hours sitting in the conservatory or on the patio, taking in the view, but most of our time was spent out exploring as much as possible in the limited time we had. The cottage was the perfect spot for our party of six to recharge before heading out on our next adventure. I’m already planning our next trip back.
My husband and I and two young adult children had a fantastic stay at this cottage. From outside, every direction you look in are absolutely stunning -- postcard perfect. Inside, everything we needed was available so we could readily have breakfasts, dinners and snacks while doing excursions during the day. The location was also quite central for doing day trips. Ahead of time, the host made accommodations for a special request which I'm so grateful for. Highly recommend!
We were extremely pleased to find that the online listing with pictures and description matched our in-person visit to this lovely property. This is a beautifully quaint home with a SPECTACULAR view of the western side of Ireland with a castle and ocean in the distance. The owner was very responsive and the locals provided wonderful help for our stay. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a very quiet area with amazing views to check this out!
Thank you for sharing your home. Everything was as described and the home/setting was peaceful and just what we needed for our final destination in Ireland. We really did not want to leave and hope to return one day. It was just lovely.
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful home! The view is stunning….imagine overlooking a castle! It is very easy to get from the house to the little town of Doolin and it is a perfect location to visit the Cliffs of Moher (an absolute must do)! Elizabeth was lovely to work with! We hope to return someday!
We had an amazing stay at this beautiful home. The views are stunning. Home is gorgeous and perfect for a family. Large lawn to play games and the round room in front looks over the castle and was a favorite hangout. Exceptional property!
We absolutely loved this property. It's situated on a grassy hill above a beautiful tower ruin and the sea. The town of Doolin is darling with lots of little shops and the great pub Gus O'Connors, and the larger town of Lisdoonvarna has supplies like a pharmacy, market, gas, etc. Easy to find. Clean. Great views. I wish we could have stayed a month!
Lovely! Everything was as hoped for in a warm and comfortable stay! Views were amazing! Real gratitude!

My dear father built this house in 1998, after he had spent a considerable amount of time in Ireland and Northern Ireland supporting the Good Friday Peace Accords. He and my mother fell in love with this extraordinary part of the West of Ireland and built a home that became his great love.
