Great property super cute with all you need included. Went to PSU football game with my daughter. Brenda communicated well while also giving us our space. We hope to come back in the near future!
Brenda and Lynn are such gracious and thoughtful hosts we couldn’t have asked for a better experience for our two night stay. We would recommend the cottage as it’s very serene and comfortable and a lovely place to stay away from the crowds!
My husband and I headed back to Penn State for the annual Blue/White weekend and we were fortunate enough to be able to stay at the Sugar Shack this year! The house is a comfortable, relaxing place for us, far from the loud, obnoxious traffic we deal with every day. I love to spend my mornings on the little porch overlooking a few farms with a cup of coffee in hand. The house itself is bright, clean and comfortable with ice and beverages in the fridge. The hosts are warm, area knowledgeable and thoughtful. They have thought of everything to make a stay there comfortable. Can't wait to return!
Brenda and Lynn gave us a warm welcome, and we had an amazing time at the lovely cottage. The peaceful setting of mountains and farmland was just perfect. And the stars at night were absolutely brilliant! Everything we needed was thoughtfully there, and the cottage was spotless. My family and I will definitely be back soon!
This was the most beautiful and relaxing place to stay!! We loved everything about it!! We will definitely be back and looking forward to it!! Impeccable!!!
I've stayed in dozens of these rentals and Brenda and Lynne have built the cutest cabin, so quaint and complete is all regards - decorations to utility items - that you could think of. I could've stayed in this little house for weeks!!
Beyond fabulous. Our new go to place when we visit Happy Valley. The host is so generous and has warm touches everywhere. You would have to try really hard not to fall in love with this beautiful country cottage!
Great place to watch Penn State football, cows, and sheep
Stayed here two nights to attend a Penn State football game. The word “perfect” has become way overused in our culture but it accurately describes the property and the owner’s responsiveness and availability. The three of us — my wife, high school friend, and I— were very impressed. Would return.
This cozy country cottage is a place pulled from a Hallmark movie! It’s picturesque views from the private patio are breathtaking while enjoying your morning coffee or tea while the sun rises lost in your own thoughts! It’s definitely a place where you can relax and reset from the stresses of life. The inside is just as beautiful as the outside and gives you the at home feeling. Brenda and Lynn are amazing hosts and they make you feel at home your entire stay💜
We spent a few nights at the Sugar Shack for our son's Penn State graduation as the drive to State College was only ~30 min. We really enjoyed being able to spend some time off campus. Brenda and Lynn's home is immaculate, inside and out, with such a thoughtful attention to detail. Our favorite part of the house was the private outside covered deck overlooking the beautiful farms and landscape. A wonderful place to enjoy a sunset glass of wine and morning coffee. An overall wonderful experience!
I got to celebrate my birthday (plus a few days) at the Sugar Shack and we had a wonderful relaxing time. The peace and quiet of the area surrounding the house is what draws us back but the owners,Brenda and Lynn, are another reason They are both warm and welcoming and knowledgeable about the area which is great. The Shack has everything we need for a relaxing time away. The little porch overlooking the nearby pasture is my morning spot. So relaxing I want to just stay there. A freezer that is always filled with ice and a refrigerator that has drinks for you are just two of the amenities they provide. I am counting the days until we can come back.
Penn State Homecoming drew us back to the area once again and we enjoyed our stay just as much as the last times we've been to The Sugar Shack. Nothing beats a clean, well stocked, comfortable, quiet rental and The Sugar Shack has all that and more. Friendly, knowledgeable hosts who respond to any question quickly, quiet days and nights and all you need within the house from wine and beer to candy to little motion activated nightlights! The weekend started out rainy and our hosts, left a cart by the driveway to carry our luggage to the house. But they also left huge umbrellas beside it to keep us and our luggage dry. Such a thoughtful gesture. Looking forward to coming back again!
My daughter and I were on a college visit and lucked into this quaint property. Brenda and Lynn were there to greet us and help us get settled. The décor was so cute and we felt instantly at home. We appreciated the extras that Brenda and Lynn included with our stay. My daughter loved the dish of candy and I appreciated the refrigerator full of drinks. And the grounds and flowers were beautiful. After spending the day on the campus of Penn State it was so nice to know that we had a lovely place to come back to for the night. If our daughter chooses to attend Penn State, we will definitely be back.
Staying at Brenda and Lynn's Sugar Shack was by far the best VRBO experience we have ever had. The many thoughtful personal touches (that I won't spoil!) truly made us feel so welcome and at ease, and the home itself is charming and well-appointed with a heated bathroom floor and motion sensor night lights. Brenda and Lynn thought of everything to make our stay stress-free, from the emergency numbers on the fridge to a Penn State themed wagon left by your car to haul your luggage a short way to the shack. Easy drive to University Park campus. We stayed here for a home football game and my only regret is that we didn't have more time to spend enjoying the house and beautiful yard. Thank you Brenda and Lynn for being such considerate and kind hosts!
My wife and I were returning our son to Penn State and looking for a quiet affordable place outside of State College that we could spend a couple of days at. The Woodland Sugar Shack, approximately 30 minutes south east of State College, was PERFECT!! Hosts Lynn and Brenda were such gracious hosts that my wife and I didn’t want to leave. The home is stocked with the essentials and then so many additional treats (fridge stocked with beverages for adults and younger travelers, coffee machine and pods, bowl of candy). You’ll want for nothing. There are a few places to eat within 10 minutes of the house. The outdoor space at the house was so peaceful, we preferred to get take out so that we could enjoy the serenity the outdoor space offered.
We can’t wait to return on our future visits to State College.
My husband and I enjoyed our third visit to the Sugar Shack and loved it just as much as the other times! Brenda and Lynn are warm welcoming hosts and their Sugar Shack is a special place with more than enough room and amenities throughout. A welcome sign with your names on it (probably nestled beside the candy dish filled with yummy treats on the table) greets you as you enter the house. Communication from them was prompt and informative.Set in Central Pennsylvania south of State College, it is surrounded by quiet, farm lands studded with sheep or horses or cows. The gentle clip clop of Amish buggies passing on the road sometimes the only sound. Love to spend my mornings on the porch with a cup of coffee watching the horses in the next pasture. We look forward to every visit here and can't wait until we come back again.
We were so pleased with every aspect of our stay at the Sugar Shack. The hosts contacted us several days before our stay and were great to work with. Brenda even checked in with us when we were close to make sure we were able to find it in the dark. It was a pleasure meeting them and having them personally show us through the cottage upon arrival. Lynn and Brenda absolutely stocked the cottage with everything we would need during our stay. It was so nice to have cold beverages in the refrigerator upon arrival and everything we needed for coffee and tea when we woke up. The bed was so comfortable, I don't think I moved all night long. The decor was perfectly suited and I just felt at home from the minute I walked in. The setting is so peaceful and beautiful and we were so lucky to find this available the weekend we were in the area. We were in town for a performance at Penn State on a super busy football weekend and it was just perfect to leave State College and be able to drive to this peaceful country retreat. We look forward to staying here again when we are in the area.
This was the second time this year we stayed at the Sugar Shack and we are certain it won't be the last. Brenda and Lynn are the nicest people and very helpful. The fridge is well stocked with beverages and the rooms are inviting and comfortable. Loved the heated bathroom floor! Some nice touches are the candy bowl we tried hard to stay away from, area info and motion sensor nightlights. No need for a flashlight! I spent my mornings on the little porch watching horses in the next field graze and listened to the Amish buggies go by.The location is everything we want when we travel: Quiet country roads, peaceful farms and easy to find. Plus, nice owners that share their knowledge of the area.. I can't see us ever staying at a hotel in State College again when this place is only a 30 minute drive away.
Owners, Brenda and Lynn, warmly welcomed my sister and me in person with Lynn proudly sporting a Penn State t-shirt. The Sugar Shack was so charming, warm, cozy, safe, clean with lovely subtle seasonal scents. We enjoyed sitting on the back deck sipping cocoa listening to cows mooing, sheep baaing, Amish horse + buggy’s clip clop and just taking in the stunning views of the peaceful countryside. Brenda and Lynn live on the property which was comforting for us females traveling out of state. I found the rental rate reasonable and appreciated Brenda and Lynn for NOT price gouging due to the PSU Parents Weekend. They left a book of local dining options and things to do. No list of rules, imagine that!. The fridge was stocked with assorted chilled beverages and the Halloween candy was a well enjoyed treat. The heated bathroom floor spoiled me for life. The Sugar Shack was the perfect Fall get away.
We Are!
Brenda and Lynn were lovely hosts. They seemed to think of everything we could possibly need! The cottage was wonderful! It was spacious, comfortable impeccably clean and well decorated too! And such a beautiful location in the rolling countryside! I was able to sit out on the covered porch and have coffee looking out over the rolling fields with cows, horses, and sheep and Amish buggies going by on the road, yet still was only about 30 minutes from Penn State! We had a wonderful trip!
My husband and I loved our stay at the Sugar Shack! Brenda and Lynn are warm and welcoming hosts we enjoyed meeting. They made sure we knew how to contact them if we needed anything. The Sugar Shack is set amongst farms in central PA about a half hour drive from Penn State (our Alma Mater) and is so peaceful. Coming from an area that is way too noisy with road traffic, the cottage was a welcome respite of quiet. The cottage is beautifully decorated inside and out. Flower beds and fountains adorn the outside while the inside is comfy and cozy. The king sized bed was quite comfortable and the bathroom had a large walk in shower. Motion sensor nightlights were placed throughout the house, making it easy to find our way in the night. The kitchen was great with a beautiful stove and huge refrigerator, well stocked with beer, wine, water, juice and tons of ice. I drank my morning coffee sitting on a little porch just off the kitchen, watching the cows and horses in the fields and the Amish buggies as they went up and down the road. A bowl of candy and a basket full of information about the surrounding area sat on the table just inside the door. Brenda and Lynn have thought of everything their guests might need and we look forward to coming back to the Sugar Shack again. Soon I hope!
