About this property

Jasmine House in the heart of Chora of Skyros, can accommodate 3 to 4 people

The house, located in the upper part of the town, has been restored with almost all its old architectural elements intact.
The main entrance leads through a small courtyard, covered with jasmine, to the dining area - kitchen (with table top, kitchen countertops & sink from Skyros marble ) and to the first bathroom (with shower and toilet).
A few stone steps lead to the oldest part of the house, a unique space with the "sfa". This wooden platform with a mattress (120X200 cm), which can be reached by a small staircase, was once the bedroom according to the traditional architecture of the island.
From the dining room a wooden staircase leads up to the second bedroom (double bed 140X200 cm), to a second small bathroom (with shower and toilet) and to the terrace.
The small terrace has view on the courtyard and on the road leading up to the fortress. Please note that the upstairs bedroom has no door to the staircase from the dining area. However, privacy in the room is protected by the way the staircase is constructed. Each bedroom is provided with air conditioning.
Bed linen u. towels are provided but no beach towels. The house is not suitable for wheelchairs.
Pets are not welcome. The owners, who speak english, french, german and greek, will be happy to give you information about the island. In 10 minutes walk through the cobbled streets to the village center you will find the bank, the post office, grocery stores, taverns and cafes. The whole village is actually a pedestrian area. Of the two parkings where you have to leave your own car or scooter, it is about 100 meters from the one or 200 meters from the other to the house. Not far from the house extends over 3 km the long beach of Magasià. It can be reached on foot in just 10 minutes (about 20 minutes back) via a public staircase.
The house is located in the oldest part of the town of Skyros, also called Chora, rich in art, tradition and crafts of considerable value (famous are the embroidery, the furniture, the ceramics).
The characteristic white houses with the gray square roof, hide inside treasures of wood carving. Strolling through the narrow streets is a real find.
A car is not necessary for your vacation. However, if you want to explore all the beaches of the island, mopeds or cars are rented on the island.
The picturesque harbor of Linaria with fish taverns is 15 km away. The bay of Pefkos is at a distance of 15 km, the beautiful beach of Agios Petros 10km away and Atsitsa (in the green part of the island) after 20km.
The beaches of Kolymbada at 20km and Tris Boukes at 25km are located in the southern barren part of the island, an imposing landscape more reminiscent of Cyclades than of Sporades, where you can smell the scent of thyme and sage. Skyros has been inhabited since ancient times. The archaeologists at the excavations in "Palamari" in the northern part of the island have discovered a fortified settlement from the Bronze Age (2500-1800 BC). Chr.) with impressive wall.
On Skyros you will also meet the Skyros horses (Equus Caballus skyriano), a small race of rare form, surviving from antiquity.
