Why jim Hays chose Patagonia
Our house is at an elevation of 4062 feet in the beautiful Patagonia Mountains. Our vegatation zone is oak-savanna, not Sonoran desert. Our temperatures are 10-15 degrees cooler than that of Tucson. The weather here is terrific!
What makes this House unique
Patagonia Oaks is 1 1/2 miles from the main road. We have no traffic noise, just the sounds of nature. The wildlife viewing, especially the bird watching is superb!

Truly a Nature Lovers Paradise
We loved this house. The drive to the house was beautiful and the location is very private. If you are a bird lover-you will love this place-especially the hummingbirds! The house is very comfortable and very accommodating. The owner was very responsive to any questions we had and you can tell he takes great pride in his property. This house and the wildlife exceeded our expectations. Thank you!
Had a great time staying here. If you enjoy wildlife outside your door this is the place to stay. We saw a grey fox, javelina (16 at one time including babies), deer, and some fantastic colorful birds. The house was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed in the kitchen.
Living in a Wonderland
The most fascinating place we've ever stayed. Never a dull moment, the multitude of birds and wildlife kept us entertained daily. I added over 30 new species to my life list, and they were up close and personal. No scanning the treetops with binoculars. They came right to the feeders within feet of the windows and screened porches. The acorn woodpeckers are like cartoon birds, and the hummingbirds were so numerous, we often had 8 or 9 at one feeder. We saw kit foxes and had visits from a coati and collared peccaries. Too many new critters to enumerate here. The house suited us admirably. Bright, clean and simple. Easy to care for and very comfortable. We loved the screened porches, with the 270 degree vistas and wildlife. Flux Canyon is a great place to walk and hike, and only a couple miles to Patagonia for groceries, library, galleries, etc. 18 miles from the border, and Nogales, it's easy to visit Mexico. And of course, it is in the heart of the sky islands, surrounded by other mountain ranges, all fascinating. I guess I can't say enough about what a find this place was and how lucky for us that we were able to rent it for the month of February. I tell folks it was like living in the middle of an aviary.
Secluded wildlife wonderland
Had broadbilled, anna's, and black-chinned hummingbirds, western tanagers, varied bunting, black-headed grosbeak, verdin, wilson's and yellow warbler, canyon towhee and many more birds visitinng the feeders and birdbaths. Close to Sonoita Creek preserve, Patagonia Lake State Park and many other birding hotspots.
Wildlife lover's delight
We had been in Patagonia for a week when we moved into Patagonia Oaks. We woke up the next morning with a Broad-billed Hummingbird feeding outside our bedroom window. He was followed by finches, grosbeaks, woodpeckers and warblers. The house was great. It was fully furnished, including hummingbird and other bird feeders. It was very convenient for the best birding in the area, minutes from the town of Patagonia, the famous roadside rest area, Patagonia Lake State Park and the Nature Conservancy’s Patagonia Sonoita Creek Preserve. The house was very comfortable, with huge screened porches and cool all day without the air conditioner. We saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed plenty of peace and quiet. It is as described and definitely a wonderful place to stay.
