The Barefoot Cottage sits on 60' of S Lake Leelanau with 4 bedroom/3.5 baths. Spy lake views literally from every room in the house. Enjoy sunrises from every bedroom. Enjoy lazy lake days sitting on the covered porch. Grab some sun on stone patio and enjoy sweeping views of the lake. The location of the property is beautiful. Lake Leelanau is a very clear, calm lake. The home was ok; plenty big. It appeared either we were the first to stay there for the season or that the place is in need of a detailed clean as the baseboards in the kitchen are caked with dirt/dust and there were cobwebs throughout. It was very disappointing that a hot tub was listed as an amenity on the property but there was in fact no hot tub. Communication with the owner prior to our stay was clear and helpful, but short and not so sweet during our stay (i.e. one of the fans was not working, the owner did not offer any real help; just insisted that the fan does work and the switch must be in the "on" position; which we obviously already knew/tried). Check out is at 9 am, which was fine because we were out by 8:30 am, however, the owner was on the property with a surveyour and noisy equipment and conversation at 7:30 am, making us feel rushed and without privacy.
The view of Lake Leelanau is incredible from most any cabin on the lake and Barefoot Bungalow is no exception! It’s breath taking. The many lake side glass doors and windows makes this get-a-way bright and cheerful all day long. The spacious living room and eating area would be ideal for a large family with small children. It has plenty of room to spread out! The kitchen was well stocked with better than average pots, pans, and knives – much appreciated. There were ample dishes, coffee cups, and glasses. We had a little trouble with the Bunn coffee maker as I had never used one – thank goodness for YouTube. We also loved the shower - plenty of hot water! Overall this is a great location and a very nice place to stay. Not resort style, and not many frills, but it is more than adequate for a week’s stay. Our wish list for a return would be side tables and lamps in the bedrooms and living room to read books by, a shady source for the deck (the sun is brutal on the deck), more storage space in the dressers (many of the drawers were full and we couldn’t organize our clothes and linens), and more wall hooks to replace the lack of closet space and for the ability to hang wet towels and bathing suits. Lastly, our hostess was exceptional. Susanne was quick to respond with any inquiry we had and was very pleasant to work with. Thank you!
Being right on the lake with access to our own dock made the vacation very enjoyable! I suggest bringing a pop-up shade tent to place on the deck to provide shade.
We, as a family, enjoyed our stay at Lake Leelanau. We have wonderful weather and made wonderful memories on this trip. I would highly recommend this place!!
We enjoyed our stay. Very simple place and very open. Owner was friendly and responsive. We plan to return.
Suggest a new table with umbrella for patio.
Thanks for a great vacation!!
