From monuments and museums to modern art and dining, Washington, D.C. is where past and present (and politics) meet. And while the nation’s capital is a popular destination for its historical significance and political landmarks, you don’t have to be a political junkie to enjoy the District. There is plenty of contemporary culture, shopping, and sightseeing to be found tucked between all that neoclassical architecture. This 2022 remodeled, one-bedroom lower unit of our rowhouse is the perfect while basking in the glory of all the places the District has to offer. This historic rowhouse is the perfect place to stay to get the real feel for being 5 minutes away from the Capitol while paying a fraction of the price you’d pay at a hotel in this area.

Our cozy retreat is in an ideal location, not only being 5 minutes away from the Capitol, but;
- half a block from Union Station
- A minute walk to Ebenezer’s Coffee Shop and Union Kitchen located on our block
- A 6-minute drive to The Mall (The easily-walkable, 2-mile long National Mall is home to the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, World War II Memorial, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, among others. The U.S. Capitol, easily recognizable by its iconic dome, sits at the eastern end of the Mall, with the White House is to the north)
- A less than 10-minute drive to Union Market, full of tons of places to eat
- A less than 18-minute drive from Georgetown which has tons of clothing stores, restaurants, etc. Adjacent to Washington Harbor and C&O Canal National Historic Park
- For our guests visiting in the Spring, you’re in for a treat… an unforgettable experience, you’ll get to see the three-week-long cherry blossom festival



We have an open floor plan with all new furniture, a brand new kitchen, newly painted walls, and a cozy feel. Aside from our queen bed in the bedroom, there are two queen-sized sofa beds that will allow you to accommodate a maximum of 4 guests.

There is no on-site parking, however; you must abide by the street signs so you do not get ticketed. There is off-site parking nearby that you can pay a flat daily rate to park your car. For example, Union Station which is a five minute walk from the property.

PSA: Guests may adjust the temperature to any degree they wish while staying in the home. However, guests must adjust the temperature when leaving the home. It is also unacceptable to use the air conditioner while windows are open. The A/C is monitored remotely. Ignoring this rule will result in a $50 fee being withheld from the damage deposit.

Memorial Day weekend trip

Neighborhood was terrific with a coffee shop and market on the block. Entry and checkout was a breeze at 11pm and the apt was spotless. It was the best bang for the buck and the location was so close to the capitol I walked every day.

Excellent Location for Touring DC

Amazing location near Union Station and Capitol Hill. Fabulous local coffee/restaurants within a block. Very clean and updated 1 bedroom unit that comfortably sleeps 4. Owner was responsive and check in was simple. Highly recommend and will rent again.

Convenient, quiet neighborhood

We had no trouble finding the place and it had everything we needed. It's conveniently located between a fabulous small local market and a wonderful coffee shop. Union Station is about 2 blocks away and there are plenty of things to do. The neighborhood was surprisingly quiet and felt safe.

Very convenient place.

The unit was clean and close to Union Station. The neighborhood was just charming. My only suggestion would be that maybe a few rugs be placed around the unit - tile floors were a bit cold at times. Otherwise, no problem with renting again if we make another trip to that area.

An okay stay

PROS: The location of this place was very nice. The owner does respond in a timely manner. A lot of places within walking distance, such as, a coffee shop, an Indian restaurant (really delicious), a gentrified bodega on the corner and a Whole Foods 10 minutes away (walking distance) from the location. You also have the union station near you and the park in front of it. CONS: There was that there was a LOT of mosquitoes/flies to the entrance of the basement. We had to constantly kill them when they got inside. We notified the owner and asked if they’re was anything they can do about it, they replied saying to put bleach but we instead went to buy raid to be safe. There was also small worms entering the location. We didn’t know where they were coming from but it became a hassle to deal with those bugs. I do hope the owner contacts a fumigator to get those issues under control. The furniture also seemed fragile, we had laid on the bed and it immediately had one of the legs snap. We notified the owner right away. While waiting for the owner’s response, we checked under the bed and the legs of the bed were slanted. It was barely holding the bed. We asked the owner if we had they’re permission to fix it and they said yes. Thankfully, it wasn’t hard to fix. I do recommend that they check the legs of the bed frame because it seemed to be easily moved if you got on it. Another issue we had, was having people upstairs walk like as if they’re giants. Constant loud thumps and moving furniture. We ignored it but it did get annoying at a certain point, so beware of that. Toilet paper is provided but paper towel isn’t, which I found weird (we had to buy one). Overall, the place was okay. I would rate it a 6.5/10

Family get away

Location was a good spot to visit the national monuments. The check in was fine. Bathroom was fine. Good kitchen. When we checked in I got the sheets out for the beds they were in a plastic zipper pouch and when I took them out they smelled awful. I had to wash both sets of sheets because they were not washed prior. The towels were not washed either they still had tags on them I had to watch those. The futons were as hard as a rock I ended up buying an air mattress for one of my boys. There was no kitchen garbage can , there was no paper towels nor large garbage bags to put your trash in There were bugs in my room dead The people upstairs were very noisy. Kids could not sleep. Don’t waste your money. The owner said she would reimburse me $50. Never saw it. That’s all Will look for another place to stay on my next visit .

Flooded out

This basement apartment flooded due to rain halfway through our visit when we stayed there in June, 2016. When we reported this to the owner, she promised we would be refunded for the remaining nights. Despite multiple contacts with the owner, we still have not received our refund.

Great place to stay in DC

Stayed here 4/5-4/10/2016 for vacation. There were two of us and the place was just what we expected. Two blocks from Union Station where you can get any ground transportation you need, steps away from a great coffee shop that has great morning pastries, 5-10 minute walk to many wonderful restaurants, and easy walk to the capitol. The place was clean and comfortable. The upstairs neighbors were a bit noisy but they wake late and quiet down early evening. Some of the best sleep we've both had was on our vacation here. Not flushing toilet paper, as someone mentioned in another review, is common in many older cities with older pipes so not a big deal. The owner was very responsive to messages through the home away app and provided other means to reach them as well. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this rental.

Good value

As others have stated, the location (short walk from Union St.) is great for the money. Giant supermarket also a short walk away. A couple things we were surprised with: Insufficient plumbing forces you to dispose of toilet paper by other means than flushing. Something we and especially our kids are not used to. We had one solid day of rainfall which the back door exterior drain could not handle. This caused minor flooding in the unit and wading through questionable sanitary conditions. Also, the unit has a stove top and microwave, but no oven. Owner responded well by phone to fix the water issue. Otherwise, poor communication by email/vrbo messaging regarding other questions/issues.

Location, location, location!

The location is excellent! It is right next to Union Station where you can grab a cab, hop on the metro or sign up for a sightseeing tour. If you're like me, and would rather walk, you can get to the National Mall in 10 to 15 minutes. The city is super easy to navigate. I went with my partner and father-in-law. It slept the three of us comfortably. I wouldn't suggest 4 adults, but three adults and one child would work, too. The apartment had everything we needed and I had no complaints.

While I was a little hesitant at first, that all melted away after entering the unit. It is in a nice neighborhood and convienently located! The interior is perfect for individuals or a couple. Very clean and welcoming accommodations. Will rent again, when I am in DC.

The property was satisfactory.

We found the property to be very satisfactory. The property owner, however needs to pay more attention to business. Before we left home, she had promised to give us the code for entry to the unit. When she had not done so and we were within a week of leaving I had to call her to get the code.. After our stay it took nearly two months to get our damage deposit back and then only after I had Paypal involved. She knew where the money came from but claimed that she could not get it back to us. Did it very fast when Paypal held up her payments. Evidently she likes a little drama in her rentals.

Homeowners away?

We have mostly positive things to say about our stay here and would recommend it to others. There was some confusion about the check-out time and hope that the homeowners get a chance to review their liturature. The cable did not work, but we were told the prior renters had taken the remote. The only real negative I can give is that the owners are not on premises. There isn't anyone to check you in (so to speak) and there isn't anyone to ask for details on the local area unless you bother someone on the street. Besides that, the location is fantastic being only about 1 1/2 blocks from Union Station, and is very charming. The apartment is as described, but it would be nice if amenities like coffee and cream and sugar were included. The deposit was returned quickly which we also appreciated.

Don't Sweat It in DC

We cannot not state enough how much we enjoyed our experience in this rental. The unit appears exactly as it is described in the Home Away description. Upon arrival we did have the opportunity to meet one of the owners as he serviced the upstairs apartment. He was enthusiastic, open to suggestions, and willing to help with any problems that we encountered. Since my wife does have asthma and severe mold allergies, we were concerned about the heat of July in DC, but the unit had central air that worked perfectly. We were also concerned during the severe storms that produced dramatic downpours of rain, but not a drop found its way into the unit. When selecting this unit, we did consider the fact that it was a lower level apartment, but we experienced no odors of damp or mildew. The fact that the entire floor was stone tile and not carpet eliminated the usual hotel carpet “yuck” factor. It was great to have access to a washer and dryer – especially in 95+ degree days. Since we are not familiar with the DC area, we were unfamiliar with the location, but we found the neighborhood to be safe, quiet and had no qualms about walking to and from Union Station in the evening beyond 10:00 pm. Two blocks away is an excellent little corner market called the Capital Market (we recommend this over the closer corner market that has an extremely limited selection) that provided more than enough selection to procure the basic necessities and beyond. You cannot beat the location. We paid far more per day to be in a comparable location in London – a block and ½ walk to Union Station which gives you access to all the bus tours, the metro, food court, and instant cab service. We will stay here again and would recommend it to anyone who would like a vacation experience that allows you to experience DC like the locals do.

Misleading Rental

"Low level row house" means basement conversion in a questionable neighborhood. The photo of the "historic facade" is just that, a FACADE. It is not the entrance to this unit, the real entrance is a few steps below. Obvious water damage around windows and back door. People with allergies beware.... the two of us were congested and coughed our entire stay (not a cold, it was June). Almost a month later, still can't shake the cough. Mold? For us, a hotel would have been better. We couldn't enjoy the kitchen or any amenities (never found jacuzzi unless it was the bathtub?) because we wanted to stay away from the townhome for as long as possible. Too hot to air out the place. The up side, was that we saw a lot of DC! To be fair to the owner, the place was newly renovated, convenient, and clean. You feel safe because police cars are constantly patrolling the streets. Our deposit was returned in full.

Family Vacation

The location is perfect! Only a block away from Union Station which was excellent - you can take the Metro anywhere and see DC sites easily. We even took the Metro to Arlington Cemetery and Mount Vernon. The home is also a half a block from an italian restaurant (great cannolli and gelato!), coffee shop, and mini market. For larger better grocery store.. you have to hike to 14th Street! Our family (2 adults and 2 children) stay here for 10 days. The home was exactly as pictured. There wasn't anything about Washington DC that we didn't like - we saw just about everything including a White House Tour. The only downside was that I wasn't expecting such an incomplete inventory of items in the home. We own a vacation property rental in Lake Tahoe and we have to have a fully stocked home. This home has very limited kitchen items which made it a little difficult to cook at home for a family of four (although we did manage with really simple meals) and not enough supply of bath towel sets for everyone to shower. Although the owner was very responsive and the next day he did bring extra towels. The washer and dryer were in the home which was great since we used it daily! I would highly recommend since this website is "Home Away" that owners be required to provide adequate household items for the number of guests staying in the home. In addition, this home is on the basement level with very short steep steps and so it might not be the best location for an elderly couple or someone who can't manage steps very well. In addition, bugs tended to congregate in front of the door so we had to spray bug spray before we could leave the house in the morning and evening (may have been largely due to the high temperatures and humidity). Other than that, we enjoyed vacationing in Washington DC and would use "Home Away" again. Thank you!!

Ideal Location

The condo is an idael location to visit and tour Washington DC. One block from Union Station, which provides tour buses, transportation, restaurants, shopping, and more. An automobile is not necessary. You can visit Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania by train. We didn't have to use the kitchen at all. Coffee shops and restaurants are close by.

Great Place

Nice little place to be right in the middle of everything. Union station is right around the corner. If the rail doesn't interest you then there are Taxi's galore at the station to get you where you want to go. While there try Tuscano's, a small Italian restaurant about 50 yards from the entrance of the apartment. All around a nice place to stay.

The apartment was well-maintained and we really appreciate that the owner was available if we needed something. I will recommend this place to a friends any time. This apartment exceeded our expectation. The attention to detail makes you feel right at home- but better! My parents loved the place and want to stay there when ever they visit! Metro is only a block away and there are several great restaurants, market, and fun local spots all within walking distance. Location! Location! Location!

Absolutely Georges

It looks just like the picture and smells new! I rented the place for my friends and me visiting from west coast. The location is great and a block to the metro. The coffee shop on the corner is the coolest place to hang out for coffee.
