Krissy and Chris have something good going here. They are just starting up and there were a few hiccups but they made sure to be there every step of the way. The property is very nice.
This is a fantastic little beach house!
Some things to consider…one bedroom is on the first floor, but both the full baths are on the second floor, so if you have anyone in your group with mobility issues, this is not the best place. As others have mentioned, there are only four chairs in the living room and only four chairs at the dining room table. The mini-split AC units were adequate, but one of the second story bedrooms was a little warm through the night—it was very hot outside when we visited. Yes, the street is busy, with two lanes each direction, but we never had any issues crossing, since you can cross one direction to the grassy median, then cross the rest of the way. Parking available in front and back, with front parking being a little tricky because of the busy street.
The MANY positives…
Located near the quieter bay-side beaches and an easy one block walk to the beach. Located beside First Landing State Park, with access to its many walking trails literally right around the corner. A very easy drive to the boardwalk area of Virginia Beach. A 15 minute walk on a nice trail 1/2 block behind the house to Blue Cow Ice Cream (yum) and Food Lion.
The house is super clean and very well stocked with cleaning products and basic paper products to get your visit started. The kitchen appears to be well-stocked but we didn’t cook any meals while there. Linens are provided as well as beach towels. Again, everything is super clean!
Great place!
Loved the beach location. The beach was beautiful and family friendly. Was disappointed that the first floor bedroom did not have air conditioning. The kitchen table had 4 chairs which did not accommodate the 5 of us eating together or playing board games. The living room was the same. There was only seating for 4. The home was beautiful and clean.
Very nice property, we enjoyed our stay. Short walk to the beach but you do have to cross the street. Over GREAT experience. We will be coming back next summer :)
We very much enjoyed our stay and Krissi and her husband, Chris, made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. They were both so kind, responsive (I had a lot of questions prior and during our stay), and went above and beyond! Here are just a couple examples:
Upon our arrival, the A/C units were being worked on, and then it began to storm very badly. Krissi and Chris stopped over to check on us, brought a bottle of wine and upon realizing that the A/C units would not be fixed that evening, Chris, without hesitation, went to Walmart and bought two window units and installed them to make sure we were comfortable and cool. I mean, we were just blown away by that. Krissi brought over a bottle of wine and when I asked if there were a deck of cards, she said “we will drop a deck off to you.” Again, extremely kind and welcoming and accommodating.
The cottage is IMMACULATELY CLEAN, and decor is perfect.
The bay beach is just breathtakingly beautiful and private, too! We felt like celebrities, as it felt like our private beach! The beach is also so clean, short walk to the bay and literally perfection.
We shopped at Food Lion (they also sell beer and wine) so super convenient as it is literally right up the road. Krissi gave us fantastic local restaurant recommendations and overall, it was just a wonderful vacation.
We are very blessed to have found this place and even more so, because of Krissi and Chris.
Go there! You will NOT be disappointed!!!
My first impressions were that this was a very nice and clean place. I will break it further down below in a pro/con list:
Pros:
- Exceptionally clean. Floor, walls, beds, showers, sinks, everything. There were really no areas that weren’t clean.
- Lovely, beach-themed mood. There is lots of natural light, the house feels relatively open, and the walls and furniture are all decorated to create a detailed and lively beach-themed atmosphere. You can tell a lot of work was put into decorating everything.
- Amenities. The house has basically everything that one would need. Stove, microwave, oven, dishwasher, washer, and dryer. Additionally, they also have laundry detergent, dish detergent, dishwasher detergent, a vacuum, board games, cooking pots/pans, an oven mitt, plates/bowls, cups, and utensils. The only items we needed but didn’t find were a cutting board and paper towels (they had toilet paper, just not paper towels).
- There is a hose in front for spraying sand off of your feet.
- The HVAC systems for each half of the duplex appear to be separate. Important during pandemic times
- Located just across the road from the beach. I think it’s technically the Chesapeake, but nevertheless very lovely. It is a very clean beach with calm waters and much less people than the boardwalk area. Also a great place to go crabbing at night or just swim with the thousands of tiny fish that come out at night. No lifeguards though.
- Owner was very friendly in all communications.
Cons:
- More of something that should just be noted, but in one of the showers turning the knob towards “cold” actually makes it hot and vice versa. Once you realize it, it’s not an issue.
- The fridge didn’t seem to work very well our first night. The fridge was barely cold and the freezer was about as cold as a fridge should be. This issue fixed itself somehow overnight and was fine for the rest of our stay.
- The air conditioners were kind of hit-or-miss. The one downstairs worked most of the time but for some reason occasionally just didn’t output very cold air. The one in the small room upstairs worked even slightly less frequently, and the one in the large upstairs room almost never gave air that was much colder than the room already was. Although sleeping was still okay due to lower outside temperatures at night, we mostly avoided the upstairs during the day due to the temperature.
- Some of the windows have screens but some don’t, leading to bugs if left open.
Our first Vrbo experience and we were pleasantly impressed. Property managers (Krissi and Chris) were great with quick responses and were super nice. Had all convenients as home and very clean. We enjoyed the Bay, Landing State Park and VA beach. Perfect location for everything. We had family that rented the otherside of cottage which worked out perfectly so we could all vacation together for a week. Highly recommend this beach cottage!
It was a great place for all of our family to come and stay together. We rented both sides of the house at the same time. It is on a very busy street, which makes it difficult to have conversation while on the porch. It is a quick walk to the beach, and state park. We all had a very nice time!
This was a clean, mostly well equipped property.
It is on a very busy street. The beach is a block away, but you have to cross the street.
The linens and towels were great. The rental was nicely decorated.
