Jewelbox. A Beautifully Restored, Elegant, Family-friendly Town Rental.
Located in the heart of historic Dunmore Town and restored in 2013, Jewelbox is one of Harbour Island’s original homes. The original structure now looks much as it did when built in the 1700’s and embodies all the old world charm one hopes for in an island home.
Jewelbox is a three bedroom, three bath home with a dining porch, lounging porch, pool and small garden. Two queen bedrooms (with en suite bathrooms) and a twin bedroom (also with en suite bathroom). Guests can enjoy luxury amenities like down pillows, fine linens, dining area for eight, wireless internet, cable, AC and a whole home stereo system. The home is also equipped with a generator.
Open, airy and extremely comfortable Jewelbox is a delightful home away from home. A perfectly sized 8' x 9' pool was installed in the Fall of 2017. Great for relaxing in after a day at the beach.
Other amenities include a home office space that features multifunctional wireless printer, scanner and copier and essential office supplies.
Daily light housekeeping is provided upon request except on Sundays and holidays. For the convenience of guests, golf cart parking is located securely on property.

We loved our stay at Jewelbox! It comfortably accommodated 3 adults and 2 children and was in the perfect location on the island (bonus: it's just around the corner from Arthur's Bakery and right next to a small grocery store). The kitchen was well stocked to make and have meals at the house and the house had everything we needed for our four night stay. The host, Nalini, quickly responded to any questions we had and we appreciated the housekeeper, Monique, checking in on us.
We enjoyed our stay at the Jewel Box. The furnishings and appliances are very nice. Everything was well organized and thought out. The house does need a little sprucing up but we understand that it difficult to maintain on the island. The location is nice but on the weekend there is a nightclub directly behind the house. It is very loud music. The locals are very friendly and helpful, we really appreciate the hospitality. The host was always quick to respond to any questions.
This is right next to a night club that goes until 2am. There was no water pressure so they told us we could get a full refund if we found a new spot or 1/2 if we stayed there. We found a new spot and they refunded us 1/3. It rained and there were leaks all over the front room so we had to put pots and pans everywhere. I would not stay here
The house overall was fine. The lightbulbs were LED bright white fluorescent and lamps shades were shredded along with several faucets missing their hot & cold tabs. The location, however, is amongst the town that plays club music so very loudly until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. No sound machine was loud enough to mask this. Then there is construction next door — so while in pool the saw mill sound is 7 feet away. Was a chic house ten years ago when we rented. Has gone down.

The Jewelbox location is very convenient - right in the heart of the city and walking distance to the grocery store, liquor store, shops, restaurants and bars. However, there is a night club behind it and you can hear the music until around 2 am so be aware if you are a light sleeper. The pictures of the pool are a bit deceiving. It is only a small square - more like the size of hot tub.You can sit in it, but not swim in it. The house is cute and clean and the appliances are nice. The bedrooms are comfortable and well appointed. Unfortunately, we did not have running water for over half of our stay - a combination of an island water system issue and a house issue. We had to use an adjacent house our group had also rented for all bathroom and water needs for the first 3 days of our stay (that house had its own water storage so it was never out of water). Apparently water and power outages occur frequently on the island so make sure you understand if the home you are renting has contingency plans for either. If the water is running, the house would be fine. We just had a really tough experience and frustrations were high by the end of our trip.

The host was very communicative and accomodating. With that said, the photos are not representative at all. This house is rundown in and out. It was clean and had everything we needed but it was sad to see a beautiful home so run down. The furniture was worn out, paint chipping and the outdoor space was so sparce compared to what was presented. We were told there would be light housekeeping everyday but Sunday, but when contacting her she said she couldn't help one day (not a Sunday) because she was too busy. We were very neat so we weren't asking for a lot. Also, the owner should mention that there is a night club directly behind the house that blasts music from 9-2 am. We absolutely love Harbour Island and will be back but only to Jewelbox if they do some TLC to the place.
We had a wonderful stay at the jewel box! It was a perfect family get away - great location, house was clean and as seen in the pictures. Highly recommend!!

This house is amazing! Right beside the Pigly Wigly and literally in the best location! The interiors are beautiful and the beds are all so comfortable! This is one of the best houses on Harbour Island!
The Jewelbox was the perfect spot for our weeklong vacation. Close to stores and restaurants and a quick golf cart ride to the beach. Juanita was very helpful and so sweet! Only request would be to add a generator because the power went out every day we were there.
We had the best time at the Jewelbox. Nita welcomed us and was so wonderful the entire trip. The home is next door to the grocery and liquor store (and a super cute boutique) which makes it so convenient. Plus it was a short golf cart ride to the ferry dock and some of our favorite dinner spots. It's only a few minutes golf cart to the lovely beaches. Thank you!!
This is the most beautiful home in the most convenient spot on the island. We truly enjoyed our stay. The housekeepers were helpful and available to help with any questions. (They made dinner for us 3 times and delivered it to our home. It was so easy and wonderful!)
The home is exactly as pictured, and the pool was a great way to cool down!

Rebekah, you're amazing review brought a huge smile to my face. You are right, the house managers are great cooks!
We were so happy to have you and your family stay with us at Jewelbox and would love to host you again the future.
We loved our stay at Jewelbox! The house is very well-located, well-appointed and beautifully decorated. We always felt safe and comfortable. Juanita, the housekeeper is very accommodating and attentive. The host, Nalini, communicated very well with us. The both of them helped us tremendously by letting us stay an extra night past our reservation when our flight was cancelled.
We spent our holidays in this stunning classical home full of creature comforts. The location was excellent and truly ideal for all our needs - coffee shop, bakery, shopping and restaurants. We loved the hidden private courtyard with a soaking pool and private elegant island dining next to it. Very pleasant and professional staff who provided housekeeping as well as same day laundry service. Fantastic full kitchen and outdoor grill and lovely cozy living room with state of art large TV.
An absolute Jewel and we look forward to staying here on our next trip to Harbour Island.
What a beautiful island with beautiful people. Our stay at the Jewelbox was a dream! Equipped with everything one might need on a beach vacation. The highlight of our trip was our lovely house cleaner, Juanita “Nita”, whom we awoke to a lovely text message from every morning. She took care of us every single step of the way ❤️ Her services went above & beyond…….she even did our laundry daily. A complete DELIGHT. Book the trip at The Jewelbox, you won’t regret it. We will be back!!!
We really enjoyed this property! It fit our family of five perfectly. The reviews that say to bring earplugs due to the roosters and daddy D’s are correct. But it was not a big deal to us. Located right next to the grocery store and Arthur’s bakery. Juanita, the housekeeper, is alone reason to sign up for this property. She helped us get a last-minute golf cart, last-minute reservations, and had knowledge on where to get miscellaneous items that we might need. She definitely took good care of us.
Me and my family stayed here while in town for my son’s wedding and it was absolutely perfect! The location was perfect as we could walk to the grocery store, liquor store, shops, restaurants and government dock. We did rent a golf cart which was fun to drive to the beach and explore the island!! We had 5 adults in our group with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms which was nice. There was an awesome private outdoor space which is where we enjoyed breakfast and cocktails. The kitchen was well stocked and Juanita was very helpful at acquiring anything we needed!! Other family members stayed in the house across the street called the Chatterbox and their house was so charming as well!! I would definitely rent one of these two houses again!!
Do not stay here! The housekeeper never showed up, we did not have laundry services all week, the property was dirty, bedding looks like it is from the 1900s. The main shower broken with 3 days left in our trip. The hot water was shut off for 3 days yet the cold water dripped consistently for 3 days and no one fixed it. The only night club on the island is directly behind the house so it sounds like you are at a rave every night at bed. The locks to the house were loose. The pictures are clearly from a long time ago, this house is worn and has not been updated and we were told by locals the owners never come to the island to check on the property so it is known to be not maintained. If you are looking for a house, I would stay on Bay Street, not here. It is far from being a "jewel'.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Jewel Box! We had the master bedroom on the second floor and our two children were on the main floor in a room with twin beds. My mom stayed in the adjoining part of the house. We loved that everyone had their own bathroom and that there was lots of outdoor space to hang out - we dined outside for every meal and it was heavenly. The decor is perfect and the house has lots of useful appliances and accessories - espresso machine, blender, state-of-the-art TV and sound system, sunscreen, towels, great glassware, toiletries... the list goes on! The location is wonderful - it was literally two minutes in the golf cart to the beach and the harbor. Nothing is more than five minutes away and the house is surrounded by wonderful shops. We felt so relaxed in the house and wish we were still there! The property manager is extremely responsive, kind and helpful, as are the housekeepers. We loved having that as a vacation bonus - light pickup every day. Overall 10/10!
Unique historical cottage with authentic Bahamian decor
The pros: This vintage house had nooks and crannies galore. Walls clad in shiplap and floors are hardwood and vintage tile. The interiors are well appointed with Bahamian antiques. Location is convenient to restaurants and grocery stores. Really you can get almost anywhere on the island in a golf cart in less than 10 mins. Our favorite dinner restaurants were The Dunmore, The Landing, and Rockhouse. Make reservations ahead. We didn’t make any before our trip and had to work hard to get tables. The Blue Bar (at Pink Sands Resort) is right next to public beach chair/umbrella rentals and made for a convenient lunch spot and place to order drinks and it has amazing views. Caretaker Juanita was lovely as was Rosina the housekeeper.
The cons: this house is due for a DEEP clean. Also the salty air has corroded the some of the metal in the house like the shower curtain rod in back house and bathroom faucets. Back house tub doesn’t drain well. Kitchen faucet functions but is aesthetically broken. The backyard is screaming for landscaping. The house backs up to Daddy Ds night club — Bring ear plugs.
OVERALL: this house is charming and a good value on a very expensive island.
Where do I start? First of all, this place looks NOTHING like it does in the outdated listing photos. The house is tired, run down and dirty. This is no fault of the housekeeper. She’s got junk to work with. The floor mats are gross and you have to walk down a dirt path along the side of the house to get in and out. It’s impossible not to bring dirt with you.
As for the other issues, the only way to be secure in the house is to lock all of the many deadbolts from the inside. Major safety hazard!! The only way you can get out of the back of the house after you’ve locked yourself in is if you have a key. If you’re sleeping in the back bedroom, you need two keys to get out of the room and out of the backyard. The four keys to get in and out are not labeled and on two separate keychains. Again, huge safety hazards!
Additionally, the AC went out and we had two people displaced one night. The upstairs bath was useless after day one when it leaked onto the bed below. The part to fix it… due after we left. The power goes out daily, all over the island, but they have a generator… it also didn’t work. The part to fix that… also due after we left.
The wood tables and outdoor chairs are gross. You can’t use the washer/dryer yourself. I wouldn’t dare put food on the old gas grill, fences are falling apart, outdoor shower is barely a trickle, the pool is freezing. There’s nightclub behind the house, music until 2am. Slow response by host!! Wish I could post pictures.
Worst rental experience ever....!
The first night we arrived on 5/5/2023 someone broke into the home while we were sleeping and stole all of my cash out of my wallet. Over Two Thousand. Later that day after the cleaning people left my sisters' purse and jewelry were gone. I called the cleaning lady and notified her right away of the stolen cash. Her response was if I went to the police it would be “the worst two days of your life and they may keep you on the island.” The nightmare got worse...
I immediately reached out to the host Nalini Mohan in an emergency state asking for help. I tried to call her, she would only work through email. I explained to her that the home was broken into and my cash was stolen. I let her know about the purse and jewelry as well. Nalini offered zero compassion and her response was to reach out to authorities. Which I did, I filed a police report with the Harbor Island Police who were very kind and helpful. But Nalini was zero help. Since her cleaning people had keys to the house I was extremely concerned for the safety of myself and my family. I reached out to her again asking her to call me. Her response again was to contact authorities...
We ended up getting a hotel room on the island for the remainder of our vacation. I honestly cannot believe that we were treated this way. Nalini the host finally responded and in so many words suggested that my daughter could have stolen the money.
This was one of the worst vacation renta

There has been no break in in the home whatsoever. Claims were made by one guest that after going out the night before she could not the next day locate money she allegedly had in her purse. We recommended she contact the authorities on several occasions. She was vehemently opposed to doing so. We offered to assist her in making contact with the authorities if she did not wish to do so or didn't know how to and advised her that we would cooperate fully with any investigation. This was to ensure transparency and the proper handling of the claims. It would not be appropriate for us to handle this directly, but a neutral third party. We were so alarmed by the allegations we wanted to contact the police ourselves, but she told us not to do so and we respected those wishes. At no point, did the authorities contact us to address any claims made. If the police had been contacted or a report filed, then they would have contacted the owner and staff, neither of which happened.
The guest review was initially not posted perhaps because of malicious threats or abusive language (we cannot be certain but assume this to be the case as the platform did not share why it did not initially post their review back in May). Therefore, even though they stayed in May, the review was published in September. You will see that there have been several stays since May with no issue. There were 3 five-star reviews in July after their stay.
In the many years since the home has been a vacation rental, there have been no incidents of theft or any such thing. We have served hundreds of guests over the years and had not a single missing property complaint. The guests who made these claims never returned the house keys. As such, there was a complete change of all locks and security procedures as a matter of best practise.
Unfortunately, the policy of the booking platform has no effective way to deal with such situations even if untrue. We can only allow our outstanding reviews to assure guests that the was a strange and unfortunate situation. Perhaps the guests truly something to have happened but not taking the necessary steps to work with us and the authorities meant there was little we could do to assist.
