My partner and I enjoyed our monthly-long stay at The Carriage House. This property is simple and has some quirks; it takes some getting used to and certainly isn't for everyone, but we found that it grew on us. This property is remote: think of it as a retreat and you'll have the right idea. Everyone we met was friendly, but expect to spend most of the time by yourself. Fortunately, the valley is gorgeous. There's a handful of hikes within 5 mins, and great climbing across the valley at Penitente Canyon. In town, the Elephant Cloud (+ cafe) is a great local store for groceries and interesting people watching. For the right guest(s), this property offers a relatively comfortable stay in a really unique place.

Why they chose this property
This property is nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Christo mountains. You have views of the mountains (you literally must crane your neck upwards to view the mountains), and a spectacular view of the San Luis Valley and San Juan mountains to the west. Sunsets are spectacular! On a clear night the milky way splashes across the sky. The Great Sands Dunes, 17 miles to the south, is one of the top 10 place in the U.S. for stargazing. The San Luis Valley has the most incidents of UFOs than any other location in the U.S. Historical and little known archeological sites in the area. Ask our Local Host for more info!
