About this property
The Mid City Bungalow - 2 Miles from LSU
Wow! Location location location. Tucked away in the heart of Mid City. Walking distance to Simple Joes, French Truck Coffee, and Radio Bar. On the LSU bus route. 3.1 miles from Tiger Stadium! 2 bikes are available for you to use and cruise. Enjoy the new bike lanes on Government St and gorgeous live oak trees cascading over the streets in Garden District. LSU Lakes nearby. Enjoy brunch at Leolas, antique shopping at Circa 1857, or listen to live music at Redstick Social or at a Bee Nice Concert.
The space
Upon entry, take note of the bright and open den. There is a ton of natural light coming from 5 brand new large windows. Tuck your shoes away in one of the cubbies in the built-in entertainment center. If it's a little chilly, go ahead and turn on the electric fireplace and warm up on the cozy couch with a throw blanket. You can unpack later. ;)
This 1940s bungalow has many modern upgrades and includes many smart features throughout the home utilizing Amazon Alexa. Tell Alexa to change the temperature on the smart thermostat or lock the front door for you. Enjoy Amazon Music unlimited, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, and Disney + on the TVs. There are some smart plugs around the home as well.
The dining room has beautiful colorful and repurposed colorful whitewashed wood ceilings with a brand new modern light above the dining table. Take note of the original windows above each doorway that allow air to circulate. The rich and rustic wood floors are also original to the home. The tile in the bathrooms and back foyer have been hand painted with a loving artistic flair.
The bright kitchen has white quartz countertops, a large farmhouse sink, and stainless steel appliances (gas range). There are many appliances, cookware, and dishes to make you feel like you are at home. Hidden in the new built-in wall of cabinetry is a stackable washer and dryer.
There are 3 bedrooms to choose from. The front bedroom has plenty of natural light and contains a timeless queen bed, nightstand, dresser, and closet. the next bedroom has 2 trundle twin beds which can sleep 4 people. The master bedroom is tucked away in the back of the house and showcases a large unique & dimensional board and batten FLOATING accent wall and closet. The design of the closet allows light to cascade around all sides of it to create a nice ambience in the room. Bedside lamps are available for additional light if you wish to read one of the books from the book case.
Now for the best part - the backyard! Enjoy the large modern dark grey/black deck with cable handrails. Both Yellow and Star Jasmine are growing upon the steel cables and wall to create privacy. There is a bright and eclectic wrought iron table and chairs for you to relax and lounge at. There is a large firepit with surrounding patio, grill, and seating for you, your guests or the kids to enjoy. There is also a fort for the kids or inner child to hide out in. The real beauty and magic of the outdoor space cannot be seen until dusk. You will notice the solar lights across the large black 9 foot fence and that turn on at dusk. Feel free to plug in the Edison LED string lights that extend the parameter of the yard. Mosquito Eradicators, Lemon Grass, and Marigolds will help keep the bugs away, but we also have citronella candles and bug spray for your use. The kids can get creative by drawing on the fence chalkboard or playing on the large outdoor connect 4. There are plenty of beautiful plants and gardening for you to enjoy. There are Italian Cypress trees and a variety of vines beginning to grow to cover the cable rails between the trees on the back fence. Pretty soon, this will give a ton more privacy for the space.
Feel free to use the charcoal barbecue grill outside that is set up for our super guests’ leisure. Please clean up after yourselves and keep the grill clean. If found left dirty and requires extra cleaning, an extra cleaning fee may be required. You will also need to pickup charcoal as it is not supplied.
For safety, there is a fire extinguisher located in the pantry in the kitchen, carbon monoxide and fire detector in the home. There is an Arlo camera amd ring doorbell camera at the front of the property for safety, security, and liability purposes.
If you are traveling to Baton Rouge, Mid City is where you want to be! This hip and kid friendly area makes you feel like you are in New Orleans. Some of the best food is within walking distance - Simple Joes, Leolas, Elsie's Plate & Pies, Overpass Merchant, Bldg 5, Chimes, Cecelias, Bistro Byronz, and Tsunamis to name few. For the kids, Knock Knock Museum and City Park playground is within 2 miles of the house. If you brought your four legged family members, the newly renovated Cane's Dog Park is located next to City Park. The LSU lakes offer walking/biking/running paths that are dog and kid friendly. You can also rent kayaks or paddle boards and go fishing if you like. There is also a golf course right on the LSU lakes. For you coffee lovers, check out Garden District Coffee, City Roots, French Truck or Brew Ha Ha. Go tour or watch a game at Tiger Stadium or better known as "Death Valley." For the adults needing a refreshing cocktail and fun atmosphere, try Beer Garden, Overpass Merchant, Bldg 5, Bull Dog, Redstick Social (includes bowling!), or Zippys. Checkout the guidebook I've posted which has even more recommendations, pictures and details.

Why they chose this property
I am the kind of host who lived in this bungalow for 6 years with my children. I enjoyed every minute of restoring it, bringing in modern aspects while still keeping the original charm of the home. I fell in love with this house when I first bought it. From the abundance of windows to the wonderful layout and outdoor spaces, I hope you fall in love with it too.
What makes this property unique
Close to LSU, downtown, near the parade route, within walking distance to some of the best restaurants and coffee shops
