A centrally located 2 BR, 1 BA with a private deck overlooking a huge backyard with garden. The large, open living room overlooks the bright garden and has a desk for working from home. Plus theres an additional desk with monitor in the front bedroom. The back deck comes complete with teak table and chairs for al fresco working and dining. 1 King, 1 Queen, and 1 foldout Queen sleeps 4 total. Netflix and Excellent Wifi. Parking permit included. My place is good for couples, business travelers, surgery patients, theatergoers, and families with children 8 years of age or older.

The Space
A private escape for work, play and relaxation in the heart of SF. This 2BR apartment is in the center of the Castro area, within blocks of both the dining and shopping of Castro St. and the green beauty of Dolores Park. <1 mile from CPMC Davies Hospital. The theater district is just a few stops away on the Muni train.

The apartment has a large, sunny garden with a private back deck. It's the bottom story of a large Victorian house-NO STAIRS!, and has lovely vintage details – a very San Francisco home. There are 2 bedrooms. The first is the primary bedroom, with a King bed and french doors that open onto a small, private deck. The second bedroom has a queen bed and a desk with comfortable office chair and 27" monitor. This bedroom has a large window facing the street. There is also a pull-out sofa bed in the living room. The primary bedroom and the living room pull-out bed are in the interior of the house and are quiet. The front bedroom window is triple-paned, but you can sometimes hear some noise from the street. Please note that the person making the reservation must be over 25. They can bring guests under that age, of course. A maximum of 8 people allowed on the premises at any given time, and 4 to sleep. This is my home, not a party house.

The kitchen is large, airy and well-stocked, with everything a cook could need, including a gas stove, a dishwasher, high quality pots and pans, and a set of real chef's knives. The bright and open living room has a dining table that can expand to seat 8, bay windows overlooking the garden, a large TV with Netflix and a DVD player tucked away in an antique armoire. The living room has a desk and printer, and a washer and dryer for your convenience. The bathroom has a tub/shower combo.

If you need to cancel your reservation past the refund cut off time, I will refund you if I am able to find another guest who will book your dates.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this property! It was the perfect spot for my family during our month in California. The space was beautifully maintained and had everything we needed to feel right at home. The location couldn’t have been better—very walkable, with plenty to explore nearby. Wonderful time in Castro

I had an amazing 6 week stay at Carmen’s place. The bed was super comfortable, the back patio was delightful (even in the winter) and the neighborhood could not be better. So many great things to do and Delores park a block away! Also a very short walk to the MUNI which I took to work every day. I would definitely stay here again!

A Wonderful Getaway!

This charming garden apartment was delightful, we truly enjoyed our stay! Communication with Carmen and Jordan was easy. 
This sweet apartment has a lovely, private yard with beautiful trees, garden and a few seating area options. We were fortunate enough to see hummingbirds and dragonflies, while watching spring unfold. Having a washer & dryer is a real plus. Bed is comfy, plenty of closet & drawers space. The location was wonderful for us.

Great place for surgery recovery

The hosts were polite and communicative and helped us get settled. The back yard is beautiful, I wish I had been able to spend more time on the patio. The bed is on the soft side and there are plenty of extra down pillows. There was occasional loud walking upstairs, but nothing unbearable, and little to no street noise. The location is great, near my hospital and doctor, tons of delicious restaurants, a wonderful kitchen with gas range, plenty of fridge and freezer space for a longer stay. The teflon cookware was somewhat scratched from previous guests, but it wasn't a big issue for us. Thanks so much for hosting us!

A Perfect Stay in The Castro

I stayed in this perfect home for 7 weeks, and I didn't want to leave! Carmen's home was fully stocked with everything I needed for my stay. The main bedroom was super quiet, cozy, and the bed was very comfortable. The front bedroom served perfectly as an office and guest room for visiting friends. The kitchen is enormous and the living area is cozy and comfy. The real star of this place is the gorgeous patio/backyard. A perfect place to sip your morning coffee or curl up with a good book. Carmen and her daughter, Jordan, were very communicative and kind. I knew if I needed anything at all, they'd be responsive and helpful. The neighborhood is wonderful! There are so many great restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops, and I never felt unsafe. I was also always able to find parking nearby. Mission Dolores Park is just a couple short blocks away, and there's plenty of public transportation nearby. All in all, a perfect stay!

Perfect for surgery recovery and working remotely

Perfect location in the Castro district. Roomy bedrooms, a nice bathroom, well-provided kitchen (even ice trays, which we needed and had not thought of) with a combo TV area. The garden area and patio are a delight. We spent every morning on the patio and several evenings at the firepit. Someone else commented that the TV area is small, which is true, but it is functional. Having a washer/dryer in the apartment was necessary and so helpful. Easy walks to Safeway and Walgreens (be prepared for pricey everything.) You’re also in the Castro, so enjoy the fun of living there. If you have a car, you’ll learn how not to get a ticket on street cleaning days. If you don’t have a car, all the modes of travel are available (Uber, Lyft). For surgery, the hospitals we needed were an easy 5-10 or 15-20 minutes away, depending on the hospital. The front bedroom is where you enter the apartment and it has a work table, office chair, and a monitor, so if you are working remotely, this setup works great. We had a couple of items we needed help with within the apartment and Carmen was good to respond and assist. Overall, a great stay and would recommend!

Wonderful apartment in the heart of the Castro.

We stayed for a month at this property and were sad to leave. Muni station a short walk away, 33 bus stop across the street for direct transport to GGP or to restaurants on Valencia. Very safe neighborhood but I would remind all this is a very ADULT neighborhood. Beds are comfortable, well stocked kitchen, pet friendly yard. Living are is on the small side, but extends to a nice deck area with table and chairs. Bedroom can be noisy at times if people are walking up stairs at a late hour (not often an issue).I would HIGHLY recommend this location and hope to be back soon!

Perfect apartment with great location

We could have not been happier with our stay three and a half month at Carmen’s apartment. The apartment is ideally located with close walking proximity to the Castro muni station as well as the J church line and the 33 bus line. It is only a five minute walk to Dolores Park and great French bakeries and numerous cafes and restaurants . The location can’t be beat. The apartment is beautifully decorated with a French country feel. The beds were so comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking our meals which was a pleasure as it is an open concept with the living area. The living room looks out on a beautifully landscaped backyard which provided a relaxing retreat area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and our visits with the cutest little dog Emma and her owner who lived upstairs. We would highly recommend Carmen’s place to our friends and family and would definitely stay there again.

Charming, spacious ground floor apartment in the Castro!

I stayed for a month at this spacious ground floor apartment in the Castro. Carmen was so easy to deal with and was so helpful. Upon entry in the first bedroom, a desk and proper office chair was arranged for my stay so I could work from home for a few days during the week. This was much appreciated. The wifi speed was perfect for video calls and streaming video content. The kitchen is well-equipped with all the equipment you could need. In addition, you are less than 5 mins away from all the amenities of the Castro main street making it an ideal location. The visitor parking permit was also very helpful as I always managed to get parking nearby on Noe Street. The beds were comfortable and I had a great night's sleep each night. The apartment is well maintained and very clean. The back yard is an added bonus to get some fresh air in privacy! Overall, I had a great stay and would recommend this property as a must-book in the Castro area.

I frequently stay in vacation rentals myself, because I like to live like the locals and get to know a place in a new way. I love living here, and I look forward to sharing my city with you. My favorite other places are almost anywhere in France, New York, and anywhere my children (and grandchildren) live.

Why they chose this property

This house was built in 1907 by a German carpenter and his wife as a house for their family. Before it was built, the ground it stands held the stable for the horses that pulled the neighborhood firetruck! My family and I bought this place in 2008 and then restored it together. it's been very rewarding work to bring a classic San Francisco Victorian back to life.

What makes this property unique

I'd say the best thing about our house is that it's so centrally located, but this particular block we are on is a specially shaped one - 40% deeper than your standard SF lot, meaning that our backyards are much larger than average. Out front the bustle of the Castro is all around, but you wouldn't know it when you sit on the back deck in the sunshine, enjoying the birdsong.
