On the Ocean at Kealakekua Bay. Where the Dolphins Play.
'Okika Lani sits at the south end of Kealakekua Bay on a private road with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the Captain Cook Monument, and crescent shaped, white sand Ke'ei Beach.
Enter the gate at 'Okika Lani and walk into an inner courtyard of Bamboo Palms, orchids, and tropical landscaping. Follow the path to the main house. A reclining Buddha resides on the entry table and greets all visitors when they walk through the front door. High ceilings, an open floor plan, and the sound of waves breaking against the shoreline beckon visitors into this spectacular Hawaiian home.
A wall of glass and sliding doors opens from the central great room onto a tiled porch. It's just a few steps down to the patio, private pool, lawn, magnificent bay and ocean views. Watch the morning dive boats anchor across the Bay at the Captain Cook Monument while taking your local Kona coffee and fresh papaya by the pool. Or marvel at the resident pod of Spinner Dolphins leaping and cavorting in the pristine waters while no one else is around to see.
'Okika Lani was designed by an award winning architect in the traditional Hawaiian style of post and beam construction, vaulted ceilings, and a spacious, open floor plan. A large kitchen, great room, and beautiful master suite all grace this stunning home. Screened lanais on both ends of the house offer airy opportunities for private dining or simply relaxing out of the tropical sun. A substantial master bath boasts oversize shower, walk in closets, soaking tub, and skylights.
A separate guest cottage, accessed from the inner courtyard, also features two bedrooms (one bedroom with a king size bed the other bedroom with two ex long twin beds), shared bath, screened lanai, ceiling fans, and guest privacy.
'Okika Lani represents the epitome of elegance and seclusion amid the splendid tropical setting of Kealakekua Bay. The home's orientation to the sun and the sea make every sunset a picture perfect centerpiece for the perfect day. In the evening, try to catch the green flash of sunset, from the pool, lanai, or great room, and sip the perfect maitai at the end of a perfect day in paradise.
Aloha and Enjoy.

The host was incredible and very responsive. Everything you can want was at the home. Great ocean view from every room in the the main home. Quick walk to incredible beach's for snorkeling and swimming. The pool was refreshing and watching the sun set from the back yard was magical . We can't wait to come back!
This was our fourth stay in this special piece of paradise. This time we rode out a huge Kona storm in place, while staying safe and mostly dry. We never get tired of sitting at the ocean’s edge, watching sunrise and sunset, seeing the tropic birds and dolphins come and go, and smelling the plumeria in bloom. Even in terrible weather, it is an almost perfect sanctuary. The upgrades including the pillow top on the bed were much appreciated. We can hardly wait to return again next year with some of our offspring and their partners who also love this place even when the pool overflows during many inches of rain. The owners clearly love this property and we feel as if we’re visiting their home, and they’ve made many improvements since we were here a year ago.
I am writing to express how much we enjoyed our stay at your property. Everyone in our group absolutely loved the house. The spectacular ocean views from both the house and the pool were a highlight, and the privacy of the location was perfect—especially for practicing yoga while listening to the surf crash on the lava rocks.Thank you for being such a fantastic host. We appreciated how quickly you responded to our questions and accommodated our group. We highly recommend the property and hope to come back again someday.
We had a fantastic trip and the house was perfect, great location, awesome pool and backyard, and unreal sunsets. The house had everything a family of 5 (2 parents and 3 teenage girls) could need. We would 100% stay here again.
It is without question the most well stocked house we have stayed in. The owner has thought of everything. It is peaceful, tranquil a truly amazing Hawaiian experience. There is no question we will be back.
This was the perfect location for complete rest and relaxation! We could see whales and dolphins from the back patio and the beaches were within walking distance. The sunsets from this spot were a great way to close out each day. Main house and guest house were exceptional.
We were fortunate enough to stay here and it was Awesome! Not only is it a great house with a cool design for sea breezes but the pool and ocean views made this place special. You could not position yourself anymore centered on Sunsets! Highly recommend this home and the host. Very helpful and great straightforward communication. Check this place out! You won't be disappointed.
The home was a perfect spot for our quiet family retreat, allowing us to relax while working away and enjoying vacation at the same time. Beautiful home and location, very pleasant neighbors in a quiet neighborhood, and wonderful communicative hosts. Our whole family's collective "Thank you!" to Shelley and Chrissy for sharing their home.

Aloha Ron! We were so happy to host your family and happy you had a great vacation! Hope you and your family many returns in the future!
A lovely home in an area we know well. Exceptional view of the ocean and we saw lots of whales from the garden. Very comfortable and well equipped house.
We loved staying at this house. Everything was perfect and just what we needed for our family of 5. Loved being away from the resorts and town. Be prepared to stock up on groceries because it does take a bit to get to the stores.
Cannot wait to come again!!
The pictures don’t lie - the house sits on a prime sunset location with a magical sunset show every night - the pool was refreshing after a day of adventures. This house is special for sure
We stayed here for a week for my 50th Birthday. The property was beautiful! Everything was just as listed. Only challenge is the internet went out on the 2nd day.
We are frequent visitors to the Big Island and now our focus is relaxing by the ocean with a pool in a quiet private setting
This place was a 5/5 in meeting our objectives
The only issue everyone else thinks the same so difficult to book even a year out
For the hosts a nice problem to have
Thank you for letting us enjoy your home
Lovely upscale home right on water’s edge of Kealakekua Bay. Expansive bedroom and bath in the house; additional two bedrooms with single bath in detached cottage. Fifteen minute walk to sandy beach. Nearby kayak rentals for excursions to Captain Cook‘s Monument. Nicely remote with minimal tourist activity in the area—a good 30 min drive to nearest groceries, restaurants, shopping, etc.
Overall, gorgeous and tranquil Hawaiian experience. Would stay again.

About the host
Hosted by Shelley Dupuis
'Okika Lani was built by a U.S. corporate executive and his wife who found themselves in the unique situation of having to commute to Australia at least two times a month. Hawaii was a natural stopover. A dear friend referred them to the spot and recommended they build here as a place to rest from long travels. The rest of the story, as they say, is history.
Why they chose this property
Originally, 'Okika Lani was chosen for its seclusion and spectacular beauty. Kealakekua Bay provides an incredible opportunity to get away from the hustle of modern life. At the same time it is the essence of real living and an opportunity to reconnect with the soul. It has tremendous historical significance to the State of Hawaii and the Native Hawaiian Community, and for all who visit this special place, it has a life changing influence.
What makes this property unique
'Okika Lani provides an opportunity for seclusion amid the most spectacular tropic setting. Proximity to civilization maintains the security of modern services, while the sense of remoteness allows one to completely unwind from the tensions of modern society. The spectacular setting gives one a sense of peace, serenity, and complete relaxation.
