About this property
The Green Chickadee: romantic cottage near AT/I-81
A charming one-bedroom cottage on a quiet street in Troutville Virginia just off of Lee Highway (US Route 11). The rose-framed porch, cozy kitchen, and comfortable bedroom will tempt you to stay in, but its location is also ideal for venturing out.
Approximately 20 minutes from downtown Roanoke, less than a mile from the Appalachian Trail, and close to both the Blue Ridge Parkway and Hollins University.
The space
The house is comfortably furnished whether you’re staying for a few nights or several months:
💚recently remodeled eat-in kitchen
*local coffee from Red Rooster Coffee Roasters and your choice of French press or drip coffee maker.
*all the standard stuff: stove, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, refrigerator
*pots and pans, baking dishes, storage containers, basic measuring and cooking utensils, mixing bowls, flatware, glasses, and dishes.
*Oil, salt, pepper, and basic spices
*dishcloths, kitchen towels, tea towels
💚 light and airy living room
*a thermostat that allows you to set the temperature to whatever makes you happy
*futon for watching TV which also doubles as an additional place for guests to sleep.
*a desk with an office chair, small lamp, and handy plug-ins.
*television equipped with Chromecast makes it easy to stream media from your phone or table, as well as a DVD player. Due to poor reception, local TV channel options are limited. The cottage gets one local news channel as well as some miscellaneous channels.
💚 serene bedroom:
*queen size bed with Tuft and Needle mattress, lightweight down comforter, linen duvet cover, and cotton sateen sheets.
*lamps for reading
*a chair and loveseat for curling up and relaxing
*additional pillows and blankets in the closets and living room chest of drawers so you can make everything exactly how you like it.
💚shady front porch with a table and chairs for savoring a cup of coffee and listening to the birds.
💚 tiny gem of a bathroom
*walk-in corner shower with rain showerhead
*the fluffiest white towels and washcloths we could find (2 bath towels per guest and plenty of washcloths)
*Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and a hair dryer
💚There is a brand new washer and dryer in the unfinished basement. We use the rest of the space for storage, and it’s only accessible from the outside not from the main part of the cottage.
💚central heating and cooling as well as high-speed WiFi.
💚 If you’re staying more than a week, you can expect fresh linens for the kitchen, bath, and bedroom delivered weekly, as well as fresh flowers to replace those that welcomed you when you arrived, and any soap, shampoo, cleaning supplies, or paper products the cottage may be low on.
Guest access
You will be able to access the entire main floor of the house with bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living room. The basement isn't finished but has the washer and dryer.
Other things to note
* There is a train track across the highway from the house that can get noisy once or twice a day.
* We are working on landscape and other small projects outside the house. We will coordinate with guests and avoid inconvenience as much as possible.
*Water sometimes puddles between the basement door and washer after heavy rains. We’re working on resolving this issue but can’t absolutely promise that it will be completely dry.
