Periwinkle Cottage of Coral Bay is a perfect rendition of a traditional West Indian cottage with modern amenities such as WiFi, ceiling fans, and window screens. Located at the end of a private road, Periwinkle has a million dollar view of Coral Bay, historic Fortsberg, and Norman Island in the BVI. Periwinkle is close to the village of Coral Bay with its variety of restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. The location is ideal for exploring St John's best beaches on the North Shore, the South Shore, and the East End.
You enter Periwinkle through a vine-covered fence into a private brick courtyard. The upper level living area is bright, open and airy with white vaulted ceilings. The living room has large white rattan chairs, a daybed , and several tables and reading lamps. All furniture is upholstered with cotton/linen slipcovers, cushions, and pillows. The stunning water view, the quartz counters, the gas stove, and a full array pots, pans, and kitchen utensils make cooking a pleasure. Most of my furniture is from Serena & Lily
Beyond the living area is the upper gallery. The gallery dining table set seats 6 guests. Two places to lounge on the gallery include a large outdoor sofa and two lounge chairs.
A wide covered staircase to the lower level leads to a gated 10' by 20' pool and deck area. The tiled pool deck is furnished with chaise lounges and tables. Near the pool deck a covered deck leads to 2 private bedrooms, each with its own tiled bathroom. Double screened doors, shuttered screened windows, ceiling fans, AC and the trade winds keep both bedrooms airy and breezy.
3rd Bedroom is main level and the 3rd bathroom is near it. Shower for this bathroom is outdoors.

Periwinkle was a very lovely cottage. Had all the necessary amenities and a few more. We had a very relaxing week. Enjoyed spending our time in Coral Bay.

I’m glad you guys had a good time Paul! Please come back visit us again!
This was an amazing home, we had the absolute best time! We loved staying in coral bay, much less crowded than Cruz bay. Great restaurants and markets around for easy grocery shopping and eating out. The house had beautiful views and great outdoor seating for everyone. The beaches were not far from the house, pretty easy to get around. We would definitely stay again!!!
We enjoyed our vacation . The house was as the pictures showed in listing . Coral Bay is a beautiful and much more quiet than Cruz Bay. We would definitely rent again . Only things that I would maybe make a slight complain about is the smell of the coral bay trash on hot days it comes right up wind . Can’t be helped I’m sure as that’s the only place to take trash.

Thanks for the review Ginnie. The smell is actually seagassum which has been making its way onto the shores of St John lately. When it comes into Coral Bay Harbour it gets stuck in the mangroves and rots. It smells like sulfur. Glad you had a nice vacation !
We had a fantastic 19 day stay at Periwinkle cottage.
The cottage is fully stocked with everything you would need. Everything matches and is aesthetically pleasing. The beds and sheets were super comfy. The beach towels and supplies were plentiful.
The property management company was very easy to contact. Trevor stopped by the house to check on the pool and was so nice to talk to and knowledgeable about St. John.
One reviewer mentioned the storage yard below, and I wanted to comment on that. Although it is kind of an eye sore, you can’t see it at all when in the house or in the pool. It is only visible from one part of the deck. It did not bother us at all.
It is important to note that you are staying on an island in the middle of the ocean (and the remote side of said island). Coral Bay is rural and expect to see lizards, bugs, goats, roosters, etc.
I would have liked more transparency about the air conditioning situation. Their are portable AC units in the bedrooms, but the rest of the house does NOT have AC. This did impact us when cooking, packing for the beach, and really just trying to sit and relax. The heat was unbearable at times.
I also think more transparency about the layout of the house would have been helpful. The bedrooms are outside and down below. In order to get the AC to fully work in the bedrooms, the big wooden doors need to be shut and locked. We had young kids, so essentially they had to lock themselves in at night.
This house was wonderful!! From day one at check in the property manager was in touch with us and always made herself available with any questions we had. We had no issues during our stay but if we had I’m sure she would have been there to help assist us.
The house is gorgeous! Looks just like the pictures. The living area is upstairs and the bedrooms are connected with an outside hallway downstairs. I didn’t realize this until arriving at the property but we made it work with our young family (kids 9, 6, & 3). We felt safe the whole time which was a big concern we had going into the trip for the first time with our kids. The neighbors are very friendly and kind too! We liked the location in Coral Bay, away from the busyness of Cruz Bay and a great jumping off spot to see the whole island! I will say that the area where you get on the ‘main road’ isn’t ideal with the trash drop off spot and the questionable activity happening across from the convenience store but the house is far enough away up the dirt road that we still felt completely safe the whole time.
There is a portable AC machine in one bedroom but nothing in the other two sleeping areas (master bedroom and pull out sofa in living room), but it was definitely cool enough to sleep with the windows/doors open. There were lots of nature sounds but that is going to happen anywhere on the island so bring a sound machine or earplugs (which the house did provide disposable earplugs in the bathroom).
The house had beach chairs, noodles (great for snorkeling at the beach), blow up rafts for the pool, coolers, a few snorkels (but we rented our own), and a few games, cards & books. There is one TV in the master bedroom and the Wifi worked great for us! The towels are amazing!!! We are investing in better bath and beach towels after experiencing the Serena and Lilly ones that the house had to use, ha! The beds are all really comfortable too with nice sheets.
The view is amazing and we loved coming back to the pool after a long day at the beach. I would definitely recommend staying at this house while in St. John!

Paige I'm so happy you enjoyed your Honeymoon at Periwinkle! Please come back and visit us again.
We love St. John and particularly Coral Bay. (This was our 14th visit to this beautiful island!) Periwinkle Cottage suited our needs perfectly! It’s location provides easy access to all areas and beaches. The house itself was well appointed and very comfortable. Whether you want to cook in or lounge around the pool or enjoy breakfast or cocktails from the deck overlooking the bay, you’re all set. We believe that part of the charm of this side of the island is the “wildlife” that also resides there…roosters, donkeys and goats,(among others) abound and all make their presence known! Finally, the property manager was perfectly communicative in general and highly responsive to the one need we had during our delightful stay.

Rooster in paradise 🤦🏽♀️
Beautiful property, beautiful furnishings, beautiful pool !! Stunning view of Coral Bay as long as you don’t look down . We were met by Shawna who was awesome, shared some good info with us.
The area is just starting to be developed so it’s rustic.
The only real problem is the rooster!! Not at dawn but at 3a and it’s constant!
We stayed 3 nts and we were all ready to leave .
Unfortunately I don’t think we would return just because of the rooster.

HI Patricia,
I'm sorry you were bothered by roosters! The chickens, donkeys, goats and iguanas are all part of true Island Living! Because it is a Tropical island , yes there are chickens and other wildlife on the island. The entire island is this way unless you stay at the one resort in town, which is of course a totally different vibe than a villa. To ease your mind we had a trapper safety relocate the rooster that was roosting in the tree near our place and get him further into town. We also cut our tree down to further stop the roosting and we added a solar powered owl. I'm happy to report that the rooster is no longer interested in our trees and has been living happily with his hens next to Love City Market. :)
Janelle, Jess and Dena all were beyond caring that our stay was perfect and it was. Everything was new and fresh, a patio and small garden graced the outdoor shower, and the pool with its lounge chairs perfect at the end of the day. The house was open and airy, cooled with sea breezes, so it was never necessary to use the air conditioner. The view was spectacular especially evenings and early mornings. If I had any complaints it would be about the rooster that insisted on crowing at three AM. We plan to return next year and enjoy their hospitality again.

Hi I'm Janelle! One of my favorite places on earth is St John. My family and I love being in Coral Bay because you really feel like a local while staying on this side of the island. We love this cottage for our family of 5 and I hope you will too! So many hiking spots and beaches nearby!
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with St John Immediately, upon my first visit. The escape to this quirky town is the perfect place to be a total beach bum. I love sitting on our screened in porch every morning and having coffee. I also love doing yoga by the pool. Periwinkle cottage offers a refreshing and relaxing vacation ( although those roosters do get going about 5am) I'm proud to share my home with you!
What makes this property unique
I fell in love with the history of the home aspect of the property as well as how it was designed. It was designed by a local architect and marine biologist. He loved the periwinkle flowers that bloomed on this side of Coral Bay. It is a traditional West Indian Cottage which is what I was looking for. I enjoy the Hurricane shutters, old knobs and brick floors. I had an immediate connection with this cottage and fell like its my job to bring it back to life. We remodeled Periwinkle December 2021
