Relaxing getaway

This was my 3rd visit to this property in the last 6 or 7 years, so I knew exactly what to expect. You have complete privacy at the cabin if you just want some relaxing downtime to read, hike, fish, or sit on the porch and watch the storms roll in. You are close enough to explore Yellowstone, the Beartooth Highway, Red Lodge, and of course all that Cody has to offer. This property perfectly fits my needs and there are no surprises. The property owner is very easy to deal with. It won’t be my last visit.

Such an amazing place to stay for us. We love the coziness and remoteness of this cabin. It is the only place we have booked twice in our adventures. The sunrise over the Big Horns from porch is awesome!!

A peaceful little cabin away from it all.

Our family enjoyed 4 nights in this little cabin. We took a nice hike near the cabin that our family just loved. It's a quiet place and a great spot to admire the stars at night. We drove into Cody a couple of days, which was about a half hour from the cabin. We also drove to Yellowstone two days and had many adventures there. As long as you don't mind driving a little while from the cabin you have access to beautiful sights.

Absolutely brilliant

We had an amazing time staying at the Go Away Ranch. It was a beautiful cabin and the setting was very peaceful. It has everything you would need for your hideaway in the mountains. Our host Debbie has done a marvellous job with the cabin and could not have been more helpful. The whole process from start to finish could nor have been smoother. We would recommend her and the cabin to everyone. Thanks Debbie it was a great stay.

Great Cabin!!!

We loved the cabin! It had plenty of room and everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. It was clean and looked exactly like the pics. It’s in a beautiful area but keep in mind if you’re going to Yellowstone you’ll have a 1 1/2 hour drive from the cabin. If you want solitude with great views this is the cabin for you. We had 2 deer come into the yard early one morning. I would definitely recommend this cabin to friends and family. Thanks Debbie!

Wyoming vacation

This was hands down the best vacation we've even been on. This is the coolest house. Very old west feeling from the moment you walk in the door. Deborah is so nice and super easy to work with and answered all of my questions. I would not change one single thing about this house. It's simply amazing. We spent a lot of time just sitting on the porch taking it all in. A week was definitely not long enough for us. We're planning to come back and stay longer next time.

The place was a western dream. It is a private, beautifully decorated log cabin .

The owner is amazing like her place, available for outdoor people such as my self with herds of antelope and horses, while listening to the neighbors chickens when woke up and having an outside bbq looking at the snow capped mountains, with indoor cast iron fire place to take the chill off, not to mention making homemade soup in the big cast iron pot. The area offers an abundance of outdoor exploration where we say moose, deer, beavers, bison and so many birds. Cody is not far and a great place to visit museums where famous westerners had been with an abundance of lakes and streams etc. I could go on and on but will summarize this is an amazing place for outdoors and historical exploration, and even just staying in having a relaxing, zen day.

Beautiful Cabin!

Debbi, TY so very much for letting us stay at your home and accommodating us on short notice. We were cozy and loved your cabin. Decor is darling. (We should bring the kids next time, they'll love it). Jerry, TY for your patience for these 2 city slickers who were totally lost without GPS. Enjoyed all the stars, the waves from neighbors. Cabin has everything you'll need. (Bring groceries. No stores nearby)

Quiet, relaxing, peaceful vacation

Awesome stay! We loved the cabin, very cozy, everything you needed for a week stay. Perfect for a family of 6. Kids loved to roam the hills. Each night had a bonfire. Loved the quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Explored the local scenery into the Shoshone National Park north of the cabin...but make sure you have a 4 Wheel drive vehicle. Also, drove the Chief Joseph scenic byway HWY 296 that was SO worth the drive!!! Also, drove Yellowstone National park for a day to see Ol Faithful and another day to Mammoth Springs. Lots to do! I would highly recommend this cabin nestled in the majestic mountains north of Cody. Owner was very friendly and helpful!

Newlie's Cabin

As promised it is a log cabin and is remote and in the foothills of the Shoshone National Forest. There is an entrance to the Forest one mile from the cabin. You will want a four wheel drive to manage the unimproved stone lanes but truly worth it-very secluded. Being an older cabin it was a bit rustic but that was expected. It is a true Western experience. Be prepared as it is bear country. Great sunrise and sunsets! Loved watching from the wrap around porch as the light changed the color of the mountains. Only real issue was the tub/shower-It is a tall tub and may be hard to get in and out. In addition there is an overhead structural log that kept me from standing straight up (I'm 6').

Rough cut old cabin..one cramped bath.

This cabin is precisely that...a rough cut, old cabin that is set on a wind blown hilltop and is anything but a pleasant vacation spot.. The tight little single bath was had a low ceiling and a head bumping log cross piece that made taking a shower a challenging exercise..and sometimes painful to the old noggin. The Grizzly bear resistant garbage can was a nice touch but after dark the place is a bit scary for anyone not used to grabbing the bear spray or a shotgun to go to the car or whatever... All in all though..not a bad place as long as you're not expecting a nice place...

Perfect Just Perfect

Our stay at Debbi's ranch was absolutely perfect and was everything we wished for. From the moment you open the front door you feel the warmth of the cozy but spacious cabin. The rustic decor returns you to the simple laid back times. As we relaxed on the wrap around porch we saw picture perfect sun rise and sunsets. Animals wander through the property as they make their way to the creek below. The caretaker Jerry stopped to visit with us and made sure everything was okay. The owner Debbi provided information in a timely manner and answered every question before as well as during our stay. We will certainly vacation again at the Go Away Ranch. Don't forget to wave at all who pass by. The friendliest place on earth and definitely a little piece of Gods Heaven. Must see attractions: Cody Rodeo, Irma's Saloon, Cody shoot outs, Cooke City, Redlodge and the museum tour.

"Now this is a vacation"

Those are the words from my wife after walking through the cabin and then back out onto the deck upon arriving. WOW!! A super place to get away. All of the comforts of home and a wonderful mountain/western cabin decor. Even Dish TV to keep you in tune with news and weather. We watched a lot of the outdoor channel - live from the deck. Make a point to get up and watch the sunrise, OMG. The 3/4 wrap around deck gave you a wide range of veiws. This cabin is off the beaten path yet central to so much. The Cody, Red Lodge and Yellowstone area is gorgeous. If you're coming from the east don't miss the Big Horn Mountain Range and Forest. Absolutely beautiful country. Debbi was wonderful to work with too. The place is as advertised. Debbi, thanks for sharing.

"Great Cabin, Beautiful Location"

Debbie our family had a wonderful vacation. The cabin, the location, and the beautiful scenery was just what we had hoped for, and we had it all. The cabin was comfortable, clean, and the porch was great to take in all the beautiful scenery. The location couldn't have been any more perfect. The history of the cabin is very interesting also. My Dad and Mom's first date was going to see the movie "Jeremiah Johnson". We visited Cody on several trips to take in all the sites, the restaurants, the museums, the Cody rodeo (we went twice ). My Dad went fly fishing in the Shoshone and the Clark Rivers with great success, and he had a lot of fun. We also took day trips to Yellowstone, Red Lodge, (my husband played golf), and we drove over the Beartooth Mountains, and the Chief Joseph Highway. The scenery was beautiful and breathtaking. A big thanks to Jerry for taking care of our needs, and we Thank You for your offering of this beautiful cabin, and your help in planning our vacation. We decided on our trip home we would drive over the Bighorn Mountains and spend the night in Sheridan, WY. What a great decision this was as the wildlife was everywhere, and another mountain of beautiful scenery. Thank You,

The family vacation

We had a wonderful time at the Go Away! Charming, unique, cozy, inviting and comfortable are ways I would describe our accomodations! The log cabin itself is like living history. It was similar in construction to many historical cabins in the area, but with modern amenities. The view is remarkable and different in every direction and changes throughout the day. Sitting on the beautiful wrap around deck, we saw mule deer, antelope, mountain goats and lots of horses. I would love to go back in the wintertime to see how everything changes. We stayed at the Go Away for a week and spent several days in Yellowstone, taking the Bear Tooth Pass into the NE entrance and the road through Cody to the Eastern entrance, both of which are beautiful! We enjoyed our time in Cody and some of the other area towns but always got side-tracked on our way back to the cabin by the wildlife and beautiful views! Our group included Grandma and Grandpa, Mom and Dad and twin 13 year old daughters. We all enjoyed the cabin immensely and in different ways! The cabin's owner was wonderful! Very friendly and helpful and sincerely wanted us to feel at home! Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation. We will definitely return, if we can!

Rustic charm

My husband and I stayed here with our two dogs for 5 days. The cabin is very old rustic and charming. It was well stocked. We had some trouble getting into the house initially, a mix up over the instructions, and luckily this did not take too long to sort out. The view is amazing. The decor is lovely. Very private but still close enough to neighbors to not feel isolated. Nice gravel road you can run on as well if that is your thing. Nice old cast iron tub, good for a soak after long days hiking. The cons are: no air conditioning. It was very very hot. Sweltering in the late summer heat. Terrible shower. Could have used more thorough packet/instructions- for example there was a bad storm our first night and we didn't realize there were storm shutters until afterwards. With 60 mile gusting winds that would have helped a lot. Overall if original rustic charm and solitude is what you want this is a great place, but I would not stay in the hot summer. I would stay closer in to the lovely town of red lodge next time we are in the area- it is such a nice little place (this cabin an hour away from there).

Host profile image
I am a photographer and horse trainer. I travel a lot, that is how I found the unique area of Clark & Buck Taylor's cabin. I always travel with my dog's,a German Shepherd and a lively Jack Russell, and a new addition of a Great Dane! They LOVE to come out to the ranch and go hiking. My photography was fortunate enough to grace the cover of Cody & Beyond magazine & feature pictures of the area & the Cody Rodeo in the 2011-2013 & 2015 magazine. I spend my Summer's photographing some of the West's most memorable rodeo's but, the Cody Stampede is the most special of all!

Why they chose this property

I loved the fact that I could be close to the mountains and yet when family and friends visit we could be close to TWO tourist towns and Yellowstone Park. We never run out of things to do! The mountains are so close and beautiful, and there is a wonderful view in every direction being up so high. Also a big factor is that even though the ranch is private , it is paved up to where the property starts. I can hike right off from the cabin & the Shoshonee National Forest is in the backyard. BLM land backs up behind the cabin so there is plenty of open space. Hiking in the Clark's Fork Canyon is such an experience, hearing the rush of the river, spotting wildlife, glorious views. Picturing the cavalry chasing down Chief Joseph and his tribe many years ago. Best is getting up, sipping coffee and watching the sunrise over the Big Horn's 80 miles to the East, and the colors glowing on the mountains behind you.

What makes this property unique

Enjoy complete privacy & be born free as you will be the only guest at the ranch! Peacefulness, great fishing on Wyomings last wilderness river-The Clark's Fork of The Yellowstone, hiking in the mountains with many access trails. Also hiking in the Clark Canyon-which is breathtaking. Seeing the wildlife run free, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, fresh air and awesome night skies with no city lights. I like the fact that historical figure Jeremiah Johnson used to frequent the area. There was a gunfight in the Canyon & Chief Joseph crossed through here when the cavalry was in pursuit. There is a lot of history and you can feel it.
The cabin itself is so unique with hand tooled logs right from the Rocky Mountains! The decor is all 'old west', and you really feel a wonderful 'western experience'!
The ranch is pet friendly for pets and horses too. It feels good to think that Hall of Fame Cowboy, Buck Taylor, from 'Gunsmoke', used to own the cabin. You can listen to the coyote's and wolves howl while sitting at your bonfire at night, and really feel like you are in another era. There is plenty of cut firewood at the ranch for your use.
I also send my visitor's a travel planner packet. It has brochure's of activities in the Cody, Lovell, Red Lodge & Yellowstone area. I also include maps of the area, hiking trails, and fishing spot's.
Visitor's may plan well in advance their vacation time. This has gone over well & has proved to be very helpful to vacationer's.
