About this property

Vintage Downeast Airstream + Tiny House A-Frame Cabin near Acadia, Fabulous View

Glamping Downeast-Escape the noise; relax and reconnect in a dreamy, renovated vintage Airstream with a fabulous view + a Tiny House A-Frame Cabin (on wheels) that’s a perfect second bedroom and bathroom. Deep in the woods and at the edge of the lake, you will feel like you are a million miles away yet we are just 10 miles from historic Ellsworth and another 18 miles from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Glamping Downeast is the perfect basecamp for exploring Acadia or connecting to nature.

Our Downeast Airstream is a 1972 Airstream Ambassador (29 feet) that has been completely renovated to provide luxury and convenience while deep in the woods. Our Tiny House A-Frame Cabin makes a very unique second bedroom and bath. Here are some things that make the dreamy Airstream/A-Frame a unique glamping experience. Please message us if you have any questions or special needs.

- The View - The Downeast Airstream/A-Frame offers a fantastic view of the Lake and the wetlands. And you can see Cadillac Mountain from the the edge of the lake, just steps from the Airstream.

The Beds - We took out the 70’s style twin beds and added a Queen with a hybrid mattress, crisp, clean sheets, and cozy duvet. The sofa in the salon converts to a twin and there is a settee across from the bathroom that is perfect for kids. The Tiny House A-Frame Cabin features a comfortable double bed plus a twin bed. We also have a crib and a Pack and Play available.

- The Bathrooms - The Downeast Airstream has a bathroom with hot water and a real flush toilet. And its enclosed (private) outdoor shower that looks out toward the lake is on the Airstream’s private deck. The Tiny House A-Frame's bathroom has a hot water sink and a flush toilet.

-The Location - We are close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor yet far enough away to avoid the crowds, traffic, and noise. Our Glamping Camps are deep in the woods on our seven acre private property, not in a campground or "Glamping Resort." We have one other camp (a glamping tent) on our property.

-Wi-Fi - We do not have Wi-Fi (we are in the woods) but there is very good cellular data service available.

-Cooking - The Airstream features a kitchenette with a sink, a refrigerator, a microwave and a Keurig coffee maker. Our outdoor kitchen, which is in a common area, features a grill station, stove top, and microwave. We provide pots, pans and cooking utensils and plates, cups, and eating utensils. The kitchen's refrigerator is stocked with condiments and essentials.

-Nightly Campfire - The campfire ring with comfortable Adirondack chairs is adjacent to the outdoor kitchen area. There is no need to bring or buy firewood, we have lots.

The road in to our property is a half mile camp road that takes you deep into the woods. No traffic, no noise, just seclusion, quiet, trees, and the beautiful lake.

Please note that the Downeast Airstream is about 125 feet down a gravel path from the parking area (and just steps to the lake) so you cannot park right next to the cabin. We have a luggage cart/wagon available if needed.

***We do not allow dogs or animals of any kind. It is a safety issue. There is a risk of an interaction with wildlife in the area.

***Glamping Downeast is in Maine's great outdoors so be prepared to accept the inherent risk of your adventure including wildlife, insects, and unpredictable conditions (we can’t control weather). Come with an adventurous and open mind, and some bug spray.

About the host

Hosted by Lee & Peg Crockett

Host profile image
As avid sailors we have owned several sailboats, lived aboard, and cruised Mexico's Sea of Cortez with our young kids. We have backpacked through Europe and hiked and camped throughout the U.S. Peg is a landscaper and a piano teacher and Lee operated a market research company that specialized in zoos and museums. We have also owned and operated two marinas; one in Maine on the Penobscot River and one in St. Louis Missouri on the Mississippi River.

In 2015 we started Glamping St. Louis with a single glamping tent and then expanded to six unique glamping sites. We have hosted over 300 glamping couples and families from across the country at Glamping St. Louis.

We sold the St. Louis glamping business early in 2021 and bought our property in Maine. The idea was to create a family camp that we could use with our children and grandchildren and when not in use, make glamping available to others.

Since 2021 we have hosted over 150 couples and families in one of our three glamping campsites here on our property in Maine. We spend the “season”; Memorial Day through October, in Maine and November through April back in St. Louis.

Why they chose this property

Deep in the woods yet fifteen minutes to downtown Ellsworth. Fantastic view of Graham Lake and only 28 miles from the entrance to Acadia National Park.

What makes this property unique

Glamping on private property, not in a campground. Complete seclusion and a real bathroom right inside the tent!
