Perfectal rental for 5-10 people. Roomy house and back yard, well equiped kitchen, quiet neighborhood. Liquor store, restaurants, 2 grocery stores within a couple of miles, nice beach just a couple of blocks away. Pet friendly. Good spot to sight see from - we did the Crysler Art Museum, Norfolk Botantical Gardens, Ft. Monroe. Colonial Williamsburg a bit further afield. Less than a half hour from the airport. What's not to like?
Visited Hampton for a fishing/boating trip with my husband, sister, bro-in-law and our young hound Rosie.
This house met all of our needs. We enjoyed having so much space, grilling out (there were two grills) and the oh so very comfy beds. Rosie loved the totally private and fenced yard, walks on the beach and around the neighborhood.
There is nothing fancy about this house but it is full of lovingly curated treasures from all over the world - much of it vintage and retro but in a super comfy (and quirky fun) way! And I've already mentioned the beds - but really, they were the great - nice linens, too - I think some were vintage cotton. No "microfiber" anything here!
House was super clean.
Genevelyn was very helpful when I had (just a couple of) questions and texted me back immediately.
Helpful hints for other travelers:
- Don't wash the dishes when someone is showering (we learned this the hard way). It's torture to the person in the shower.
- Bring phone chargers and USB plugs (and maybe an extension cord (also learned this the hard way bc we forgot that older homes don't have plugs and built in USBs every 3 feet).
- Bring a bundle of firewood if you want to use the Solo Stove aka fire pit.
- Eat at Fullers. Best poboys outside of Louisiana.
- Drive and/or walk around Fort Monroe (so much cooler than expected).
We are from South Jersey and we met our family from NC for vacation. The home was perfect for our families of four adults, three teenagers, and two children. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. Our host Genevelyn was quick to respond to every question and thing we needed. There was a lot of space, the AC worked great, the beds were comfortable and we all fit around the table for dinners! Everything we could fit in a week was in walking distance or a quick drive. Genevelyn gave us great tips to enjoy our stay. Perfect vacation!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The home accommodated all of our needs, from beach gear, to a basket of snacks & a bottle of wine to greet us, and a great
backyard for the family dog! Genevelyn was wonderful in communicating with us and we will look forward to returning in the future!

Why they chose this property
This beach retreat proves you don't need--or want-- seashells on every surface to remind you of the ocean. The Buckroe Buccaneer is a historic home in a quiet, residential neighborhood, a short walk to one mile of clean sand by the Chesapeake Bay. Buckroe Beach is a hidden treasure that even many Virginians haven't visited. Virginia Beach, on the Atlantic, is 30 minutes away. Colonial Williamsburg is 30 minutes the other direction. In between, find Fort Monroe and Outlook Beach (10 minutes), Grandview Nature Preserve (10 minutes), Ocean View Beach (15 minutes) and Busch Gardens (25 minutes). The Hampton Coliseum is 3.5 miles drive.
What makes this property unique
We have put our best foot forward to provide a clean, comfortable stay. The mattresses and pillows are new. Beds are made with cotton sheets and topped with quality comforters. This is an older home and the bathrooms and kitchens have not been updated. There is no ice maker or dishwasher.
