About this property
Classic Lakefront Cottage
Enjoy a classic Maine lakefront cottage with beautiful sandy beach and 300' of waterfront. You'll enjoy loons on Upper Range Pond (a medium-sized lake), jumping off our private dock, swimming in beautiful clear water and using our 2 kayaks and canoe. Have dinner on the screened-in porch while watching gorgeous sunsets or make s'mores in the fire pit on the beach. Wonderfully quiet, private location only 40 minutes from Portland.
Fully equipped with linens and cookware, washer and dryer, as this is a family retreat that we love to share. We're committed to sustainability with eco-friendly cleaning products and lighting.
THE SPACE -- In addition to three bedrooms, there is a private loft with queen bed that's accessed through one of the bunk bedrooms. It's suitable for agile people because one needs to climb a sturdy ladder to get up to it. There is also a roll-away bed (for a child) available upon request.
-- For heat, there's a Rinnai propane heater as well as a beautiful stone fireplace.
-- Fast internet with a desk in the living room.
-- Private parking on our property. Outdoor propane grill is great for cookouts.
GUEST ACCESS -- Lock box on the front door.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE -- Mid June-Labor Day: we rent Saturday to Saturday, check in 3pm (lockbox), check out 10am.
-- We supply 4 gallons of drinking water via a water cooler with additional water available nearby. The tap water is fine to bathe with, cook with (boiled) and wash dishes with. It comes from a dug well next to the cottage, but to be extra safe we ask guests not to drink water from the faucets.
-- We have two kayaks and a two person canoe. Swim/use watercraft at your own risk and please wear a life jacket on kayaks/canoe. Life jackets available for kids and adults.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- Personal watercraft (jet skis) not allowed on Upper Range Pond. -- A few stone steps lead from cottage to beach. The path is lit at night but there is also a short path through the woods. -- Please drive slowly down the road. The camp road is in good shape and driving slowly helps keep it that way. -- No smoking indoors or outdoors.

Great little get away. Can't beat the view. The cabin had everything we needed, nothing we didn't. Did most of our cooking on a fire, and fished. It was a great place to relax.
Our stay was perfect. The camp has everything you need, and the loons on the lake made it extra special. I grew up with a camp in Maine, and this felt so familiar. We hope to return again and again. Thank you to our hosts for sharing such a special place—the secret history we discovered made it even more fun.
Lake house was well equipped for our family of 7 to sleep well, eat well and enjoy the serenity of lake life. Morning coffee on the dock with the Loons swimming and calling to sunset and camp fire time. Not to mention the swimming and kayaking in the crystal clear lake. The week exceeded our expectations.
We had a beautiful week at this lovely Maine camp. The fire pit on the beach, lake side, was perfect. Kitchen is stocked for cooking (although we tend to bring a few of our fav tools anywhere we go). Bathrooms are modern and updated. Grocery store is only 15 minutes away. The lake traffic is not overwhelming at all. Would love to stay again.
Loved the dock and the float! Dinner on the screened in porch with the sunset across the lake was a special treat. Appreciated the fire pit set up although we didnt have a chance to use it. Lots of space and teens enjoyed the loft room. Was extremely hot when we were here but using house fans and opening up the house it was possible to maintain a comfortable temperature.
Property was secluded, clean, and just as expected. Property manager provided excellent instructions and great recommendations and a beautiful place to stay. Hopefully we can come back again sometime. Definitely recommend!

Hi Lacy, my husband and I are the property managers so we're happy you loved our cottage!
We had an amazing weekend. House is nicely set up and can’t beat the view. Weather wasn’t great but that didn’t ruin our fun. Highly recommend this place!
Awesome cabin, private setting, and a nice dock for our boat. Kitchen is appointed with everything we needed. The view of the lake is amazing at sunset. We enjoyed our stay, I only wished we could have extended it.
This was our second year and I’d highly recommend.
Everything about this place is perfect. It’s exactly as listed here and has everything you need. Very clean and comfortable. You won’t want to see the rest of Maine.
We had a great time only thing negative would be the water not great for swimming the bottom was yucky and we are not boat people

Thanks for leaving a 5-star review, Edward! Our beach area is great for sitting around the fire, but most guests enjoy swimming off the dock and float. Sometimes you can even see fish swimming near the shore.
I have stayed in the area before on Middle Range Pond and am very familiar with both Middle Range and Upper Range ponds. Both are great for fishing and are relatively quiet compared to some of the more developed ponds and lakes in the area. The house is comfortable and has a great Maine cabin feel with a wonderful view of sunsets. The docks is nice and we greatly appreciated the use of the two kayaks and the canoe. Hope to stay there again.
It was my first trip to Maine and this property was all we were hoping for. Waking up with coffee on the dock each morning to beautiful sunsets each night by the fire. Loved the sound of the loons. We kayaked, canoed and swam in the water and found so many different mushrooms on the property! Close enough to do rockhounding in White Mountains & visit lighthouses & breweries in Portland. The cabin had all our needs and was cozy & clean. Truly love the place!
I give Gail 5 stars. If you're a family with children it's perfect, but if you're looking for some quiet time you're not going to find it here. Property owners on the other side of the pond light up their properties like a Christmas display and and they either don't know or don't care how their loud voices carry across the water. These are things that Gail has no control over, but as I said if you're a family with children..... perfect!

Hi Thom, the cottage has been fully booked all summer, and we’ve had a number of couples looking for a quiet getaway. This is the first time we’ve heard about an issue with noise. Most of the time the lake is beautiful and serene.
Maine camp experience on a quintessential Maine lake
Stayed here in May 2024 for a long weekend. This is a clean, well-equipped, rustic "cabin in the woods" on the edge of Upper Range Pond. The cabin feels private in the midst of the trees and has a clear western view of the lake from the porch. There is a generous open area right by the water for gathering (with a fire pit), and the dock was also large enough for my spouse and I to share coffee on early mornings or watch the sun go down. We were serenaded by loons throughout the day and night and were able to also watch eagles and ospreys pass over. During the summer there are more power boats on the lake, but was quiet while we were there.
There is everything you need inside the cabin for a comfortable stay of several days. There is one queen bed on the first floor and another in the loft; the other beds are bunks. It was cool at night when we stayed but the heating system did the trick.
We used the two kayaks; Upper Range is not that big and it was easy to kayak around. A channel connects to Middle Range Pond.
I used the wireless during my stay for doing some work and had no problem either video conferencing or streaming video on my devices.
While the cabin location is on a small gravel one lane road with only about 8 houses on it, it is near to amenities. The nearest supermarket is only about 15 minutes away so and Nonesuch Brewery just opened a brew pub about 5 minutes drive on Middle Range Pond. Portland is about 35-40 minutes away.
We stayed here for a week in July and had the best time! The house had plenty of room for our family of 4. The kids slept in the bunk room and in the loft. The view out the windows onto the lake is just spectacular, and we spent lots of time on the porch just looking out. There’s a great big dining table that was perfect for game nights, and many games are available to choose from. Wifi was great, even on the beach, and we had good cell service (Verizon). Everything we needed was there, from TP and paper towels, to shampoo and laundry detergent. Having linens and towels included is always such a bonus. We had a couple unusually hot days, but there are plenty of fans in the house. Most of our time was spent down by the lake. It honestly seems like this is the nicest property on the lake. Between the beach, the dock, the floating raft, the cove, and the privacy, it is exactly what we look for. The sun hits the dock from late morning until it’s dark out, so we stayed out until after sunset every day. The water is clear, clean, and warm, and probably a little lower than usual due to the lack of rain all summer. There was some boat traffic, moreso on the weekend, but this end of the lake is less populated and quieter. Our kids spent every day swimming and jumping off the floating dock! We also kayaked and canoed every day. The loons were constantly swimming by and were very vocal, and we spotted an eagle a couple of times. The fishing was great, as well! We had lots of catches right off the dock (bass and sunfish). The nearest grocery store is about 15 minutes away, but we only had to make a couple of trips. We got ice cream in Poland at the Log Yard, and spent an evening in Lewiston, which was about a half hour away. Other than that, we had such beautiful weather and just didn’t want to leave the lake! On our way back home to Massachusetts, we stopped at Fort Williams on Cape Elizabeth (took about an hour to get there) and spent the afternoon there. Gorgeous views and a great way to end our week and break up the drive home. Gail was great to work with and made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks for sharing your home with us, we made some great memories. Only wish the week didn’t go by so fast!

We’re so happy you had a wonderful time! Thanks for letting others know what makes this such a special place.
Reminded me of the movie, "On Golden Pond". A rustic but comfortable cabin right on a lake. Would definitely go back. When questions arose Gail the owner was super to communicate with.

About the host

My family and I have lived in the Portland, ME area for many years and love the water.
Why they chose this property
We rented this cottage in 2021 for a family reunion and enjoyed it so much we now own it!
What makes this property unique
Very private, 300' of waterfront with abutting neighbors not visible in summer. Cottage retains it's rustic charm and let's you go back to a quieter, earlier time.
