About this property

Escape to the COZY CABIN at DEER LAKE WILDERNESS RETREAT, a four season getaway where you'll relax in nature, reflect on life, and restore yourself.

Snuggle up in the cabin's living room enjoying the views of nature and the evening ambiance of a crackling fire emitting from the wood stove. The loft bedroom features a queen sized bed and a reading corner where you can hunker down in a comfy bean bag chair. The kitchenette has a mini fridge, toaster oven, kettle, french press coffee maker, tea pot and all your cooking essentials such as plates, cups, cutlery, utensils, cutting boards, pots and pans. On the cabin’s porch is a BBQ with a side burner for your exclusive use. The Cozy Cabin has its own private outdoor space with a table and fire pit to roast marshmallows while you watch “nature’s TV”. In the warmer weather hunker down in the hammock to read a book.

Guests of DEER LAKE WILDERNESS RETREAT are welcome to use the communal barn which oozes with rustic charm. The communal barn apartment is a shared space where you'll find a kitchenette with a stove, microwave, air fryer, coffee maker, tea kettle and all of your cooking essentials. There is also a sitting area and farmhouse table for your use, connecting at the end of the day in the candlelit barn is a magical experience.

Explore the amazing Almaguin Highlands where there is plenty to do all year around. In the winter cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling are available at your doorstep and dog sledding is just one hour away. In summer enjoy water sports, biking, hiking, artist galleries, shops, restaurants, ATVing, horseback riding and golfing. DEER LAKE WILDERNESS RETREAT is not directly on the water but with your rental you’ll get a free day pass to access the provincial parks in the area such as Algonquin Park (40 minutes away) and Mikisew. Mikisew is located on Eagle Lake and is just 10 minutes away. It is a great spot to hike, play frisbee golf and spend time at the lake swimming, relaxing on the beach, fishing, kayaking and canoeing.

DEER LAKE WILDERNESS RETREAT is a 20 minute drive from the town of South River where you’ll find your essential needs including a grocery store, LCBO, craft brewery and pharmacy. The Crystal Caves and its surrounding artisan village just south of town is a spectacular way to spend an afternoon. Sundridge is just 10 minutes down the road with its quaint Main Street featuring several shops and restaurants.

PLEASE NOTE that the Cozy Cabin has a slightly rustic side to it. There is no WIFI although cell reception in the area is excellent. The cabin does have hydro and the main source of heat in the winter is an electric heater and the woodburning stove. The Cozy Cabin does not have plumbing but drinking and cooking water is provided in a dispenser. The cabin’s washroom is a composting toilet and there is also an outhouse down the lane. There are two shared hot water showers (one in an outdoor shower house and one in the communal barn apartment) but both are out of commission during the winter months from November until May when the pipes are frozen. The walk to the geodome from the parking lot takes about 2 minutes, a cart is provided and in the winter I will provide you with snowshoes and a toboggan to carry your gear to the Cozy Cabin.

If the cabin is booked or you want a unique glamping experience please check out the Stargazer Geodome at DEER LAKE WILDERNESS RETREAT.

SPECIAL OFFER: If you book a Friday and Saturday Night Please ask how you can extend your vacation for just $99 on Sunday night.

Great place to relax
I enjoyed my time at the Cozy Cabin, it is well appointed glamping for sure. Sara was very helpful and very responsive to questions. Although this time i was on my own for much needed down time, would definitely consider coming back with more people to stay and stay in some of the other options available on the property.

Cozzy Cabin
My girlfriend and I had the most amazing getaway at this cabin. It was so cozy and comfortable! Just a few minute drive to the lake and we went swimming multiple times! Along our travels we seen a moose that we were able to pull over and watch for 5 or so minutes! I would 100% recommended to anyone looking for a very aesthetic cabin to stay in!

Quiet Gateway
This review is for winter. Great place to get away from humanity. Very very quiet and well stocked with amenities (plates, etc). Best described as glamping. Very close to Mikisew Park. Good place for hiking and cross country skiing. If going in the winter consider bringing lots of water (pipes froze through no fault of the owner) and food. Knowing how to start a fire in a wood stove is critical, it is your heat source. Would return.

About the host

Host profile image
With the purchase of Deer Lake Lodge in June 2021 I entered an exciting new chapter when I became a glampground proprietor (a.k.a. professional putterer).
I've rebranded it as Deer Lake Wilderness Retreat, and my vision is to create a community where my guests can relax in nature, reflect on life, and restore themselves. Phase A is complete with the establishment of a three site glampground, and phase B will be to introduce workshops with a focus on wellness.

Happy Glamping,

Sara
