Repeat Visitor

This was my wife’s and I second visit to the carriage house. This stay was equally as good as the first! The property was clean, the bed comfortable, and neighborhood quiet. Tom and Holly were super responsive and hospitable. You can tell they take pride in this property. The property is also perfectly located close to the Blue Ridge parkway. My wife and I were able to head into the mountains for a day of hiking and be back in time for dinner. Next time we are in Central VA, we will be staying here again!

Perfect location and stay

I was in Lynchburg for a wedding and so enjoyed my stay at the Rivermont Carriage House. It was a perfect and beautiful location. I loved the historic aspect and the amenities were amazing. It was raining and thundering on Saturday morning before the wedding, but I fully enjoyed my coffee and muffin on the screened patio, having an opportunity to listen to the rain, read, and write. I really enjoyed listening to the jazz blue notes album on the record player while getting dressed for the wedding. I felt pampered. The weather cleared and I was able to walk the avenue after the wedding. The bed was super comfortable and Holly and her husband made the visit seamless with every amenity you can imagine. I would come back just to enjoy the ambience and quiet and beauty. I will be back. Thanks so much for a wonderful getaway!

Charm and Grace Away From Home

First of all, thank you Holly and Tom. We had the loveliest 3 nights at the Carriage House. From lights on throughout when we arrived to bring greeted by a kind note and plate of homemade blueberry muffins welcoming us, there was no hospitality spared. Cleanliness and comfort are a standard here. We loved being able to enjoy walking on the Rivermont District and take in its beauty as well as take in the calm during the rain on the screen porch. Some amazing above and beyond touches: 1/2 gallon of milk, bottled water, flavored water, excellent coffee and tea bar, granola bars, selection of chocolates jarred, oatmeal selection, oils and spices to cook with, soaps, soaks, emergency toiletries, floor fans, umbrellas, flashlights, magazines, record player and records, robes, games and books. I am sure I am not listing everything, but I am sure you have the idea, our hosts have covered it all. Hopefully you will select the Carriage House as an amazing opportunity to be refreshed and rested during your stay in Lynchburg. Many thanks and look forward to our return.

A Charming Getaway!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Carriage House. The home is charming, quiet, stylishly decorated and has a plethora of amenities, which made my visit to Lynchburg more comfortable. We lovingly restored our Classic Revival mansion, Victorian carriage house, and our tiny chapel. We love bookstores, traveling, reading, our beautiful daughters, and our wonderful pets. We’re world travelers, so we know what you need for comfort. Our favorite countries are the US, Greece, Italy, Japan, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. We live in the mansion, and are delighted to be your hosts during your stay!

Why they chose this property

The carriage house was built in 1893, and converted into a guest house 62 years later. In 2019, the carriage house underwent a full restoration. Private and secluded, the carriage house is about 70 feet behind the main house and chapel.
Our 1.5 acre estate is located in a particularly peaceful, private and lush part of the Rivermont Historic District. Beautiful large historic homes separate upper Rivermont from the older parts of Lynchburg. While very private, you can see other residential buildings from the carriage house. You may hear the occasional siren, normal neighborhood noise, or train whistle during your stay, but the most common sound is that of silence broken only by birds, rain on the metal roof, and wind in the trees.

Please remember that you're staying in a house, not a hotel. Please treat the space with respect. If any problems arise, we will do our best to take action ASAP; as we live in the main house, and our property managers are close by.

The space is one of a kind. We understand that it may not be for everyone. Our historic carriage house, built 131 years ago, stands 70 feet from the main house. It has uneven floors/ceilings, winding stairs to the 2nd floor, and 7-foot-tall sloped BR ceilings. Mobility-impaired guests should take caution, and it’s not suitable for small children. Heating or air conditioning may vary on each floor. Dishes must be washed by hand. But it is charming, unique and in the most beautiful section of the Rivermont Historic District.
