Beautiful, clean, great location, hot tub, fire pit, grill, large porches and excellent WIFI!
A tastefully decorated new Swedish-inspired build with 16 foot high ceilings, an open floor plan, large covered porches, fire pit and a private new hot tub. Inside find a beautiful living space consisting of locally-sourced oak and knotty pine walls, hickory flooring, cherry cabinets and lots of windows overlooking a vast forest. Enjoy colorful sunrises and sunsets from this hill top cabin that overlooks 91 acres of private woods.
There is fabulous hiking on our property's trails (find fairies in our whirly twirly fairy trail, get lost in the maze of confusion and hike the settler's grave yard). This property is adjacent to Waterloo Wildlife Area (2300 acres) and Zaleski State forest surrounds it. Explore the area (Lake Hope's Old Hollow Cave and Pioneer Cemetery trail is amazing). This property is in a great location between to a hip college town (Athens) and amazing Hocking Hills region.
***The property has one security camera pointed away from the house, facing the driveway entrance.

Great communication with the host, Lauren, from beginning to end The cabin and the grounds were clean and comfortable, which we were thankful for, because we only left the property once due to the oppressive heat and marauding mosquitoes that week. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go again and/or highly recommend it.

The cabin was very clean and had everything you needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. We spent three nights here and visited both hocking hills and Athens during our stay. My wife and I along with our dachshund really enjoyed our stay at this cabin, I would definitely recommend to others to stay here.

Lovely spot. The cabin is new and fresh. Big kitchen you can really cook in if you want to. The back porch is a wonderful place to relax (as long as you have plenty of bug repellent). We had a bit of a problem finding the place even though we used the Google maps pin. If you have the same problem, go a bit further than it says.

I was a little disappointed when we arrived to find hot tub was not clean and shower had black mold air units do not work how they should only one works in smaller bed room and the couch could use an updating.. And be prepared for light in your face at night from the air unit..(sucked) However the back porch and private trails made it a little better…If these things would be addressed the cabin would be awesome! Don’t like cleaning on my vacation so I can shower June25-June28 2026

PERFECT location for chill weekend with our dog. Second time staying, but not our last! Super easy access to dog-friendly Old’s Hollow trail at Hope Furnace, Moonville Tunnel and trail (wide paths great for a dog), and super close to Athens. And, if you don’t feel like leaving the property, there are wooded trails and rolling hills to explore. Cabin is clean and comfortable, WiFi is strong, and hosts are very friendly.

We loved the secluded space, fire pit, hot tub and well equipped kitchen. It was a great getaway! There were many closed roads due to the heavy rain, making the trip to the local state parks over an hour. But that makes the waterfalls more fun too!

We had a great weekend at the cabin despite rainy days. Located close to multiple parks, hiking trails, Hocking Hills and Athens only 10-12 minutes away. Spent lots of time on the porch and in the hot tub taking in the view of the hills and woods. Would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful property, however; the mini splits weren’t working in the property with no indication when we checked in. The first night we froze and then realized they weren’t functioning. We also realized that there was no way to control most of the ceiling fans. The host was responsive and informed us about space heaters stored in the closet so the next night we set up multiple space heaters to warm the house. I believe I should have been informed before my arrival about the lack of environmental controls. When you rent a house, you expect at least a few basics. Also, a dog appeared while we were unloading, he acted scared and skittish. We later found out that he was a “nice” dog but he sure didn’t appear that way. I was very glad we didn’t have our youngest grandchild with us or she wouldn't have left the house. Again, these are things to know about before we arrive not after.

Prior to your arrival, the mini-split system experienced an unforeseen malfunction, and we genuinely believed it would be repaired before your check-in. Unfortunately, the repair was delayed. While the cabin remained toasty warm with the supplemental space heaters, we understand this was not the heating system you expected to use during your stay, and we're sorry we were unable to notify you before your arrival. As for the dog, that's Dale, our friendly property mascot! He loves greeting guests when they arrive and typically visits for just a few minutes before heading home. Many of our guests have commented that meeting Dale is one of the highlights of their stay. That said, we understand that unexpected visits from even the friendliest dog aren't enjoyable for everyone, and we appreciate your perspective. We'll do a better job of letting future guests know they may be greeted by Dale upon arrival.

The hot tub temperature was great and we all loved it! We cooked most of the mornings and evenings. The selection of cookware, utensils and plates, etc was perfect. The cabin is very nice and cozy. We will stay here again.

Lauren and Andy Dick moved to the Athens, Ohio area in 1994 to attend Ohio University and Hocking College. It was here that we fell in love with each other and the Southeastern Ohio Region. In 2000, we purchased our first beautiful four acres and cABIN adjacent the to the Waterloo Wildlife and Research Area. Over the past 22 years we have continued to expand our ownership of more property in this magical place. As of May 2021, we celebrated our acquisition of additional acreage now total 91 acres.
It has been our dream to share the peace and serenity of Waterloo Woods with others who desire to get away from it all and rejuvenate. This newly built cabin on our property, as see here on VRBO, has made that dream a reality for us. We take great pride in assuring our guest stay in a private, clean, serene and welcoming environment.
