I think this is the perfect place for a short time, but not the best for a longer period if your wanting to be able to cook meals at the house. The kitchen is rather tiny( to be expected) so it's not the best for storing food. It was a cute little place, definitely would stay again.

Clean, comfortable and great value

Quiet, safe neighborhood. The property is exactly as advertised - rooms are clean and bed was comfortable. We didn't want to stay downtown Seattle so this tiny home was perfect. It was only 30 minutes from Seattle and had the added bonus of Kirkland's vibrant water front (Lake Washington) with many restaurants. We enjoyed our stay.

Cannot say enough good things about the Cottage! My sister and I LOVED staying here. As someone who lived in Kirkland for 24 years, the location is PERFECT -- easy access to everything! And just a sweet-tucked away neighborhood. We met with friends in Kirkland, hung out at Starbucks, took multiple ferries to Bainbridge, Whidbey -- and a day trip to Victoria. The cottage was clean and neat -- no complaints at all! Check-in was a breeze. We felt like we were at home, and I will definitely stay here again. It's a jewel! Thanks, Stefan!

Cottage on Slater Avenue in Kirkland, Wa.

I would recommend this property to a couple. The description and pictures of the property were accurate and the property was very clean. The owner was very helpful in answering questions. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this location.

Kirkland visit

The cottage is very clean and a perfect base camp for other activities. It includes a kitchen (fully equipped), a bedroom -- queen bed, and a bathroom with a shower (no tub). Cottage is next to owner's home, so convenient if there were any difficulties. That said, no worries about privacy. Great find. Wireless.

Great Visit

The cottage was exactly as represented and worked very well for our needs. It is very clean and well kept. It is, as advertised small, best utilized by two people (which is what we had) but there is definitely adequate room for two. There is a nice kitchen, a delightful bedroom and bath. We had different ages staying there; two sisters in their teens and 20s, a daughter-in-law and daughter in their 50s and 30s, and a son and his son, age 13. With a larger family staying nearby, it was delightful for those to be able to get away and retreat for special time together. We met Stephan upon our arrival and he was helpful in answering any questions. We would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful location, better than expected

The property was beautiful and in a beautiful neighborhood. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook, which is exactly what we were looking for. The bed was okay, a little lumpy, and some nights it was hard to sleep because we would hear noises that sounded like someone was trying to get into the little home. But we are alive! It may have just been the wood settling since it was pretty windy and cold and rainy. We were never cold even though the weather got to be 40 and below. Thanks to those great heaters! Definitely reccomend renting it.

Minimalist Cottage in Kirkland

Cute cottage with very soft queen bed, plenty of empty storage, and efficient bath. Heaters and fans were available. Parking was right outside the door on a private lane. Outdoor light for security. We found it easier to back in to the drive as there was no room to turn around. The kitchen had full refrigerator, microwave and stove as well as a coffee pot. Accessories and dishes were limited: 2 bowls so had to wash between salads and ice cream. Only 1 kitchen towel with bleach spots and holes, but it was clean. No consumables such as plastic bags, wrap our foil. In the bath, 2 bath towels, 1 hand towel and 1 wash cloth were provided for a week. Soap was 90% empty. Overall, the place had the minimum and was functional.

Forbes Lake where are you!!

Where do I begin, the write up on this rental deserves a Pulitzer Prize, however, it is the most misleading representation. Upon arrival we needed a machete to cut through the two foot high weeds that surrounded the entire property, some of which had thorns that could really cause injury! There is no lake visible from anywhere near the place, so getting a glass of wine and sitting on the deck to watch the sun set over the water is just not possible. The deck is worn, rickety and the deck chairs are terrible. Spiders and carpenter ants are the major inhabitants just outside your door! Ad states there is cable TV and wifi, however, the cable TV is very basic which allowed access to a religious channel, two government channels a news station and one channel that showed old reruns of Criminal Minds form about about 5 years ago!! The internet hardly worked. We had to be in the kitchen in order to pick up a signal. The kitchen, while nice, could use a few more pots and pans. There was a building being constructed two doors up and a lot being cleared just behind the unit so it was loud and noisy all day long. A major highway is just up the alley so traffic noise was also an issue. A previous reviewer stated the ad misrepresented the rental and I couldn't agree more. On a positive note, for the price it was adequate at best. I must now go try and get the sap off my car from the low hanging branches on an overgrown tree that hung over the parking area!
Response from VrboOwner on 27 Mar 2020
Dennis & Shelley, I am disappointed that you had such a bad experience. I would have appreciated if you could have let me know how you felt while you were there so I could have done something about it then. I care about the experience my guests have. I apologize about the misleading picture of the lake. The city planted trees a couple of years ago between my property & the lake & they have grown incredibly fast. I will make sure to update the pictures & description. As for the yard, I had to replace my landscaper as he wasn't doing his job. It is the busy season, so it took me a few weeks to find one. As you are aware, I the yard was taken care of WHILE you were there. Landscapers were there for two days grooming the property & making sure it looks good. There were a couple of blackberry bushes that were trimmed back, which were no where close to the cottage. You only noticed them because you walked your dog in our yard. I hardly feel that one foot high grass requires a machete & would appreciate if you could provide accurate & factual reviews. Spiders & ants are part of nature. If they were in the cottage I could understand your concern, however they are not. I do appreciate you letting me know the WIFI, Cable & Deck are a problem. I will purchase a signal repeater today so that the signal is better & will call Comcast to make sure I have a better selection of channels. I don't watch TV, so I was not aware of the limited selection. I will also inspect the deck & replace it is as needed. I have rented this property out for six years, & have never had anyone complain about freeway noise. You can't hear the freeway while inside the cottage, & you can hear the freeway pretty much at the same level anywhere in the city. Whether you are next to it, or two miles away. It is part of living in a big city. Construction has never been an issue either, however as of a couple of weeks ago, there are two houses being built close by. The noise affects me as well & I wish it wasn't there. However I understand it is outside my control & also part of living in a city. It will be gone in a few months when they finish the homes and fortunately they work only during the day. Finally, regarding the sap on your car you had 60 feet of designated parking to park your car in! You chose to park under the tree! Trees make sap. Please consider timely, open, honest & direct communication with your hosts so they can do something about your concerns.

Inchecken

Jaqueline, Respectfully, providing a 2 star review for a 20 minute late check in because my cleaners were late to start due to an emergency they had, as well as a dirty kitchen towel? We talked on the phone prior to your arrival and I advised you that we needed a few extra mintues. All linens, towels, kitchen towels, etc... are washed thorougly for every guest we have, so if there was a stain, that didn't come out in the wash, that doesn't mean the towel is dirty. And when we do find stains on any items that did not come out with the wash we remove the item and replace it with a new one. I went to the entrance myself to apologize for the delay and thought we also had a nice conversation about europe and other things. It seems catriciuous for you to rate me the way you did. I told you I was available for any needs you had. If there was an issue you should have communicated with me. But to be honest, I already knew you were going to do what you did. Your harsh review was anything but necessary and the fact that the majority of my reviews say the complete opposite of what you said only underlines my point. I wish you the best and safe travels

About the host

I'm excited about meeting new people and creating new friendships with travelers that will stay with us.

Why they chose this property

I am at the heart of Kirkland, just 5 to 15 minutes away from the Kirkland Waterfront, Seattle and much of the surrounding area. This location offers access to all kinds of shopping experiences, outdoor experiences, culinary experiences and so much more. With the rental bordering on protected land and a small lake, we have the convenience of quick access to surrounding areas with the private feel of being out in the countryside.

What makes this property unique

I often sit on our back deck and watch the sun rise or set over Lake Forbes. Being close to shopping, downtown Kirkland, Microsoft, Seattle, and various other places is convenient, but often you need to sacrifice privacy to have these. Our rental gives the best of both worlds. We even get to see the occasional deer, and often see a variety of birds and other wildlife on our property. It is serene, peaceful and practical all in one.
