About this property
Remodeled Cayuga Lake Cottage - nice yard & waterfront, near Treleaven winery
Located on a quiet side road 30 min from Ithaca and 5 min from Treleaven Winery, our four season lakehouse is ideal for family time at the lake or a romantic getaway. The house is comfortable and thoughtfully furnished. With a sunny flat yard, hot tub, deck, new lakeside shack, kayaks, long dock, shady grass patio by the water, fire pit and rec room, there are lots of spaces to spread out. We face the afternoon sun and sunsets, and have deep, clear water. Sit by the lake and feel your blood pressure drop! New pictures coming in May...
Our cottage was built in 1951 and is 1100 square feet. We bought it in 2020 and spent over a year and a half remodeling every room, converting the wood floor garage into a recreation room, and building a new lakeside shack by the shore. We've tried for the "looks like its always been there" design approach and used sustainable materials and energy options.
The living room looks out to the lake with a large window and is open the kitchen. It has ductless heat pump/air conditioning and a pellet stove. The kitchen is fully supplied, including a dishwasher. Next to the living room is a dining area and den/TV room, which has a new high quality queen size sleeper sofa and curtains to create privacy. The main bedroom has a new queen size bed and a large window facing the lake, and the second bedroom has two twin size beds with new mattresses. The bathroom has a shower/tub combination and there is a washer and dryer. We have drinkable filtered well water.
In the back yard we have a hot tub and a new deck with a table, chairs and gas grill. The flat yard is a nice place for yard games and we have a fire pit with supplied wood. There are about twenty steps to reach the shoreline area, which is very few compared with most Cayuga lake properties.
The converted recreation room has a ping pong table, couch and chair, "vintage" boombox, and board games.
At the shore there is a nice shady area in the summer for sitting and the new shack with a mini fridge, cozy/romantic lighting, couch and table. The dock extends out to a deep section of the lake and is wonderful for jumping into the water. We have kayaks, paddle boards and life vests for guests to use. (Not available late Nov. through April for cold water safety)
The neighbors along the lake are a nice community of people that know each other well. There are a couple neighbor's dogs that are allowed to wander around off leash. They are friendly, but you may encounter them occasionally in the yard.

About the host
Hosted by Adam Jacobstein

I am a woodworker and cabinetmaker in Ithaca with two teenage boys. I was raised in Rochester and spent lots of time near Naples, NY and the finger lakes region growing up. I love this area, the small changes over the years and how much has stayed the same. I enjoy outdoor activities such as paddleboarding, canoeing, camping, and mountain biking.
Why they chose this property
We designed the new floor plan to create a nice flow from one room to the while still enabling privacy in different areas. There are many ways to enjoy the lake, including the large windows from the living room, dining room and main bedroom, the deck, yard, patio area by the water, lakeside shack and dock. The furniture is a mix of vintage, antiques and brand new items like the bedding. Many finger lakes properties are separated from the water by a large number of stairs. The fewer stairs there are, the more you will go to the water, for sure! Our stairs are pretty easy to navigate.
What makes this property unique
Our location on Cayuga lake is ideal for a few reasons. We face west, catching the afternoon sun, which is very nice in spring and fall when it would be too cold to be by the water on the other side. When it is hot in the summer, we have nice big shade trees right by the shore to stay cool. We are at the point of a natural bend in the lake that makes our view of the water wide on both sides, and with the prevailing wind we are much less likely to experience algae than other areas. The water is nice and deep, beautiful to swim in. We are also very close to the new Finger Lakes Land Trust acquisition, which makes a very cool day trip on kayaks. Don's Marina is 1/4 mile to the south, and they will let you park a boat there and launch it for you for a small fee.
