Secluded Oceanfront Retreat with Guest House
There’s nothing like a stunning view to make a home feel truly magical and with more than 800 feet of direct ocean frontage this property is outstanding in every way. Drive down the sweeping private road and be transported to a world of luxury and relaxation. Located on a five-acre estate-like property, Ovens Reef House offers privacy yet is only minutes from spectacular sand beaches and the towns of Lunenburg and Mahone Bay.
The Main House
This house is a 2,500 sq. ft. cape on the outside and Malibu beach house on the inside. It’s stylish and luxurious with custom-made furniture and all the the amenities one expects from a quality vacation rental. Its open-plan and wall of windows on the ocean side has been designed to let the outdoors in and take advantage of the breathtaking views out to the open ocean. The show-stopping gourmet kitchen is every foodie’s dream. Polished concrete floors and counters plus seating for four at the breakfast bar anchor the space. There is a six-burner Wolf gas cooktop, two wall ovens which offer convection cooking, a microwave, stand-alone fridge and freezer and, of course, a dishwasher. A large walk-in pantry contains cookware, dishes, and a variety of small appliances. Guests who like to keep it simple will find a propane barbeque on the patio. The main level features a stylish Italian glass dining table with seating for eight. As well, there is plenty of comfortable seating in the study and living areas - all with ocean views. A wood-burning fireplace, a 50-inch flat screen television with surround sound and well-stocked bookshelves add to our guests’ enjoyment. Rounding off the main level are a two-piece powder room and a mud room featuring a full-size washer and dryer. Upstairs there are two large bedrooms. The master features a king bed, a wall of custom built-in storage units and spectacular ocean views from its elevated position. The freshly painted second bedroom has a queen bed offers plenty of storage too. All beds come with comfy mattresses and pillows, as well as quality cotton sheets to ensure a restful night’s sleep. The two bedrooms share a spa bathroom with polished concrete floors and counter. There’s a deep soaker tub offering panoramic views out to the open Atlantic as well as a large walk-in rain-head shower. Outside, the large deck is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the everchanging ocean. The teak table seats six and is perfect for alfresco dining.
The Cottage
Next to the main house is the cottage. Loaded with charm, it more closely resembles a typical Nova Scotia beach cottage. But, with some big differences. This pristine little gem shares the same spectacular views as the larger home and has been finished with the same care and attention to detail. The main level is open-plan with a small but functional kitchenette. Not fancy, it’s perfect for preparing morning coffee, light meals and snacks. The living area has a double pull-out sofa bed and seating for two more. As in the main house, large windows bring the ocean views in. Completing the main floor, there’s a large bathroom with a custom travertine marble shower. Up the stairs, a large bedroom with a king bed and gigantic reading chair offers the perfect escape. Writers and dreamers will love the huge desk facing out to sea. Decks along two sides of the house are perfect for lounging and enjoying the fresh ocean air.
The property enjoys amazing panoramic ocean views, however it is on the top of a cliff and the waterfront is not accessible from the property. There are some lovely beaches nearby and the Ovens Park is just a short drive away.

Our stay was fantastic! The property, house and guesthouse are as beautiful as the photos show. The view of Rose Bay is incredible. I would recommend this property to anyone, and hope to book it again in the future!
Beautiful location close to Lunenburg. Stunning views and nearby restaurants in Rose Bay and the ovens, which is owned by Steve Chapin ( Harry’s brother) who entertains some evenings! Such a fun time.
This home (x2!!) was wonderful. It had everything we needed and the view/location could not have been better. Watching the deer (and fawns!) graze at sunset and sunrise, was amazing. Lots of birds to watch and photograph too.
We stayed a week at the property and had a great time. The location was private and a short distance to the Ovens. The additional carriage house provided flexibility for our family and the wifi worked great.
What a perfect place for two couples - two separate houses! The larger house is spectacular, with rooms you'd see in a design book. And it was functional - the kitchen was a delight to use, as was the outdoor grill and dining space. The internet and satellite TV were very functional. The smaller guest house was very comfortable as well, and one of us practiced yoga every morning on its deck, while others sat in the chairs enjoying the ocean.
The location is somewhat remote by Boston standards, but that is what we were looking for. The Rose Bay general store is a few minutes away and surprisingly well-stocked. Lunenberg is a 15-minute drive (which will be shorter once a bridge is rebuilt).
We really enjoyed our stay. The view was really gorgeous. Very peaceful. The house was very spacious and nice. Kitchen was great. The main house has AC but it did struggle a bit getting cool on the second floor… not a major issue. The smaller house doesn’t have AC and is also very nice. The bathrooms were nice, could use a deep clean but they were still totally fine.
The yard was nice but needed some landscaping work. Caused for quite a few mosquitos so bring bug spray. You can’t get to the water from the property. It’s very steep… so don’t expect that. Some cool wildlife walking around. Deer. Squirrels. Chipmunks. Birds. No whales or sea life during our stay.
The rental agency was great. Very responsive. Super friendly. Make sure you read the book when you arrive, explains stuff you need to know.
The driveway in is a bit steep and the rocks had washed away so our vehicle slipped a bit getting in and out but it was not an issue. Also, the limited trash/recycling requirements are something to be aware of. Internet and Tv were great. We didn’t expect it to be as good as it was this remote of a location.
All in all… it was nice. Not much to do unless you drive other places but if you are looking to relax and detach…read a few books. Take a few naps. Make a few nice meals. it’s a great place to do it.
Need to fix the driveway and needed a deep clean. Lots of bugs and mosquitos
Large spacious living area and gourmet kitchen was a dream come true. Having guest house allowed for family privacy. We grilled almost every meal. We love this area of the South Shore!
We were pleased with this cottage. We are a family of 3, plus my sister. So she mingled with us, but could retreat to her own little guest house! We enjoyed the wild life and the neighbours' guineasfowl birds! The Bayport pub in the neighbourhood was a pleasant surprise. From the cottage we visited Shelbourne, The Hawk Beach, Hirtle's Beach, Sand Dollar Beach, Yarmouth, Mavilette Beach, the Acadian coast, Digby, the Historical Flower Gardens in Annapolis Royal, a boat tour in Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, and Peggy's Cove. So yes, this cottage was well located and allowed us to explore beautibul Nova Scotia, and was our safe haven to come home to for the evenings!
We picked Jeanne’s cottage and guest house to allow us to isolate (in case it was needed) and still see family. We thankfully ended up not needing to isolate... but enjoyed the comfortable space, the well-appointed kitchen and the great beach recommendations.
A great base to explore the Lighthouse Route!
Well equipped and very comfortable.
Lovely property and house. Great to rest, relax, and enjoy.

Beautiful view with shortcomings
I’ll begin by saying the view from the cottage is just as stunning and beautiful as the photos show! However, there were a number of things that significantly detracted from our stay. We found a lot of ants and earwigs outside and many inside the cottage and guest house. The cleanliness of the property was subpar (stains on the ceiling, dust collected on shelves and baseboards, bathroom faucets had build up around them, etc.). The property seemed as though it needed a good spring cleaning and pest control. A boat sat offshore the last two nights of our stay and shone very bright lights at the cottage well beyond midnight which disturbed our sleep. Overall our stay was a let down as the property did not seem that it was prepared to the standard of what is presented in the photos.

Thank you for your review, Kenny. Unfortunately, ants and earwigs can be a problem at this time of the year at most rural properties. I wish that you had expressed your concerns while you were staying with us so that we could have had our cleaner and caretaker come over sort these issues out. The lights on the boat were definitely an isolated incident that we have never experienced before. Thanks again for your review.
Property was beautiful; they thought of everything. Accommodations are fantastic! My husband is a gourmet cook and the kitchen sold us; he even brought his own knives , but it wasn’t necessary. FELTZEN South is a great location, close to everything. Our suggestions: do check out The Ovens Natural Park and do the 40 minute walk., you won’t be disappointed! Check out the Rose Bay General Store, we loved it. ( had a fabulous lunch there)We did the Lunenburg Market on Thursday and had dinner at The Half Shell downtown Lunenburg ( 20 minutes away) Visit Hirtles’s Beach, simply gorgeous. Visit Blue Rocks , it’s magical, but most of all try to sit and enjoy the view and at night take in the stars. We saw seals, eagles, all seabirds, and deer. We will be back.
Beautifully upgraded house in a wonderful location. The south shore has lovely scenery. Jeanne made sure our arrival and stay went smoothly.
10 out of 10.
All good! Great kitchen for cooking. Awesome views. Great beaches nearby. 20 minutes to Lunenburg.

A peaceful and beautiful property.
This was our first Maritime vacation, but because of our wonderful experience, and this beautiful rental home, it will not be our last!
This property has the seclusion and peaceful qualities of a cottage with all of the luxuries of an upscale modern home. The houses were tastefully appointed, and the living areas comfortable and attractive. The rooms are bright and cheery, and the view is stunning.
It took us a few days to get used to the lack of window coverings in the bedrooms and bathroom in particular, but eventually the seclusion of the property enabled us city-dwellers to become more relaxed. The wifi was not fantastic, but it was manageable for the most part.
The kitchen is set up for a chef, and if you are at all the culinary type, you should find just about everything you would need to make a meal worthy of Master Chef!
The additional guest house was a fun little retreat for our young adult children to hang out and watch movies. My daughter loved staying in the privacy of her own vacation house.
There is so much to do in Nova Scotia, but be prepared to drive if you want to see anything. There was a lot of distance covered when we wanted to see the area, but it was worth the drive every time we went out on an adventure. We would go back to Nova Scotia on vacation in a heartbeat, and back to this lovely home if we have the opportunity in the future.
Thank you for a lovely time. We hope to visit your home at Ovens Reef again one day!
