The "Heads Above" house has been a part of Rodanthe for over 2 decades sharing it's allure and charm to countless guests and visitors across the globe. Perched on the sand just steps from the ocean waves this beach house makes memories extra special. Our timeless Outer Banks oceanfront property is always primed and ready for the adventure seeker and beach enthusiast and is just the right size and space for family and friends to enjoy! Large enough to get lost when you need to yet small enough for that cozy intimate feel. Whether for a weekend getaway or a week or 2 or more long vacation this newly updated interior 4 bedroom 3 bathroom beach property has all the modern luxuries for that perfect getaway! Last minute adventures or advanced planning there is plenty to do whether lounging around the house, surfing, swimming, fishing, walking the beach, beach combing or relaxing in the hot tub we have it all. Spend your days playing on the beach and then relax on one of the spacious decks overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. A quick walk to the Rodanthe pier, shops, and local restaurants offers variety and options for the adventurous vacationer. The OBX has many places to explore and do for all ages and skill sets for activities in the great outdoors. The famous lighthouses along the coastline, wildlife preserves, large sand dunes, Wright Brothers National Memorial, plus plenty of wide open beaches to explore. Why leave the house? An open concept updated kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances and accessories put in the summer of 2023, offers a culinary delight to the chef who enjoys cooking. Lunch or late afternoon grilling on the deck adds flexibility and variety for the outdoor chef. The 2 large decks facing the ocean are great spots to relax and hang out while playing games or soaking in the hot tub, with unobstructed beach and ocean view that stretch across miles of ocean! One of the most unique and exciting things guests have mentioned about their stay is seeing schools of dolphins, whales and seabirds such as pelicans right off the deck behind the house. The front deck of the house is a sweet spot that boasts tremendous sunsets facing the west sound side of the island. Great place to escape for a while on your own for some peace and quiet. It is also a sweet spot for a late afternoon or evening tea or glass of wine as you gather around the coffee bar. Guests enjoy the close proximity to the beach, waves running up towards the back deck and the sounds of the sea and tranquility of the ocean sounds while sleeping. Don't wait. Awesome Vacation

This was our first trip to the OBX and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. House was clean, comfortable and roomy and the view was fantastic!! There were a couple weather related issues but Darren was quick to respond, kept us updated and issue resolved. Will definitely look to rent again if we go back to the OBX.

Absolutely Perfect

It was one of the best vacations. It was everything we hoped for. The view is breathtaking and peaceful. The place was clean and so roomy. Darren and Claudia were the best hosts. They checked in to see if everything was okay and if we needed anything. Even got us chairs and an umbrella when I mentioned if they had them there. They couldn’t be more accommodating. I will be telling all my friends who want to go to the Outer Banks. We would definitely stay there again. Cheryl C.

Dreamy beach getaway

One of our favorite beach trips yet! Perfect for a family with children to let them run wild on the beach. We spent most of our time outside but the inside was just as great!! The location cannot be beat, the home is extremely cozy, and the hosts are great! We will definitely be back 😀

Young family very blessed to have two amazing kids and a new little golden doodle named Oliver. I Grew up on the west coast and lived in Washington state and attended college in Hawaii and Pennsylvania. Use to take trips to the OBX while in school. My wife grew up in Argentina and we met while I worked in Huntington Beach, CA. We enjoy traveling and exploring the world. Also, enjoy hiking and golf, and long walks on the beach. Love the outer banks and what the area has to offer. Glad we can share our property with our guests from around the world. We hope you also feel welcome staying here!

Why they chose this property

When I was in graduate school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania we would have super activities with large groups of young adults in our church on the outer banks of North Carolina. We would rent these large houses on the beach and have big bonfires and sit in the hot tub after a fun day on the beach exploring the area. It was a blast and I have fond memories of that and the amazing beauty of the area. I wanted my family and kids to experience similar things so when the opportunity presented itself we couldn't resist and we bought our first property on the beach in the quaint village of Rodanthe, called "Heads Above"!

What makes this property unique

This property is unique because it is on the beach. I mean literally on the beach. There are fewer of these type of house left in the area and you can hear the soft tranquil waves crashing on the shore from inside the house. But even better there are 3 decks to observe the majestic sea from above or to watch the magnificent sea birds fly by. Two decks are facing the ocean with unobstructed views on the back of the house and they are large with lots of patio furniture and a hot tub. The front porch deck has sound views with the most amazing sunsets! Great place to escape in the early evenings in the lounge chairs with a favorite beverage. Also there are restaurants and shops close and within walking distance or a short bike ride to the house. Convenient in all respects.
