About this property

Beachfront on Hatteras Island in Rodanthe, NC

Beachfront home in Rodanthe, NC. 5 bedrooms (all masters), 5 full and 2 half baths. Sleeps 10-12. Pet friendly, Game Room. Theatre Room, Elevator to top level kitchen. 6 decks, 3 on the ocean side and 3 on Pamlico Sound Side. Watch the sunrise and sunset each day. Almost every morning you will see dolphins swimming and feeding so bring your binoculars. Private pool and spa. Optional Pool heat at additional cost, $500/wk. High speed Internet is provided along with basic cable and ROKU devices for each of the 7 TVs. Home is handicap friendly but the driveway, being that it's on the beachfront, tends to get sandy. We have a couple of portable 4ft x 4ft platforms to assist guests who may have trouble walking in the sand. A 4x4 vehicle recommended particularly after a strong wind event.

Oh and an added note.... we love fur babies so the puppy dogs are welcome with us! We typically limit to 3 but I have a difficult time saying no to a few more :) we just ask that you bring your own extra blankets to put on beds and furniture.

On the Beach
Was the PERFECT getaway right on the BEACH! We have stayed at many ocean front homes on the outerbanks and this was seriously on the beach. We would stay again.

Roaches, mice droppings, and an unethical owner- BEWARE!!
I can honestly say that we have stayed in the outer banks since I was 8, and I’m 40 now, and I have never been in a house this dirty. We killed over 15 roaches in the first day, and kept killing more each day during the week. I did message the owner, and his only response was, ‘ sorry for your troubles. We get it sprayed every 3 months.’ The owner referred to them as water bugs….these were NOT water bugs. They were German roaches. They were out in the middle of the day, and when we packed to leave, we tried to get make sure none were in our personal belongings, and every single family has had to kill roaches that got in our luggage. My son was sitting at the kitchen table eating lunch, and one crawled up his leg. There was also mice droppings everywhere. The elevator was a constant problem as well. The magnetic strips on the door would come undone when the main door closed, because it’s old and needs replaced, and an error would occur that required the maintenance company come out to reset the system. I have three people that need an elevator, and we didn’t have one the last three days of our stay. Now, almost three weeks after our stay, the owner is requesting we pay additional fees for ‘damages’ we didn’t make, service on the elevator, and had the audacity to message that the maintenance individual isn’t an elevator technician, but knows just enough to get by. That was his wording in the message on VRBO. I’ve since had to get VRBO involved- terrible!

Not quite what was expected
Overall, a good stay. To be fair, we arrived the day after the tropical storm blew through, so lots of sand everywhere. Property owner responded quickly to a clogged toilet and replaced a toaster oven when the other one wouldn’t work. Main microwave was not working, but a counter top microwave was provided. Heater in pool was not working which was disappointing ( managed to use it once, as well as the hot tub which is located in what looks like the garage area). Second floor of house appears to have been under water at some point. Terrible smell (mildew) in media room, foosball room and room with pool table. Very difficult to do much in this area due to smell. We were able to use the handicap accessible bed/bath…smell was not as strong and it worked out beautifully. The elevator was a Godsend as we had one member in a wheelchair. We only got one day at the beach due to the storm, but enjoyed sitting on the decks overlooking the ocean when the wind permitted. When you come, bring your own paper goods ( toilet paper, paper towels, etc.) as these are not provided. Don’t buy groceries at the general store on the way to Avon. We spent $295 for just a few items (think everything there is marked up twice as high as the grocery store (Food Lion in Avon and worth the drive). We got our fill of flounder and other seafood at restaurants on Rodanthe and one place in Avon. Again, overall we enjoyed our stay.

Did not want to leave!
Our second time staying at this property, and loved it both times! House is right at the water's edge, so it's almost like being on a giant houseboat, seeing surfers go by your kitchen window! Loved watching the sunrises from the comfort of our bed, and the sunsets from the back deck. Host Jay is super responsive and communicative. House had a few minor maintenance issues, but was in great shape overall, especially considering its proximity to the ocean, and the hostile environment from the salt spray that goes along with that.

Always fun with family!!
This house is right on the sand! Has plenty of room and bathrooms for everyone! Has pretty much everything you need - even a nice high chair and crib! I do wish the pool heat was working - it is one of the reasons I booked it! My dad had to clean out the AC window unit in our room plus he had to clean out the dryer vent because the dryer would not dry our clothes. Also, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is required- there is so much sand in the driveway. We all loved looking at all the books - they were very entertaining! All in all, we had a great time and loved being right on the beach!

My wife Katthy and I live in a small town in South Carolina along with our young son and German Shepherd. We enjoy our home in the off season as it's become our labor of love. We are also enjoying our new venture of self managing. So much more freedom and an opportunity to interact with our guests.

Why they chose this property

This property is unique in that it is so close to the ocean, 100-300 ft depending on the tide. You can hear the ocean waves crashing while you sleep. You will get a very refreshing soothing sleep in our home. On top of that you have a private pool, private hot tub, you may bring your pets for an additional fee of $200.
There's great fishing right out front or you may walk to the Rodanthe Pier just a few blocks south. Bring your binoculars! The dolphins are swimming out front almost every morning and they're gorgeous!

What makes this property unique

For those guests who have mobility issues the house is equipped with full handicap accessible features, including an elevator to the top floor kitchen, a full handicap room with handicap master bath. The sand in the driveway is sometimes a challenge so we made a couple of 4ft x 4ft platforms made from deck boards which can be used to help mobility impaired guests into our home. My dad has mobility issues and uses these platforms. They work really well and Dad says it was a good idea!
