About this property
The Dusk House - An Idyllwild A-Frame
The Dusk House is a serene and stylish getaway located in the Pine Cove neighborhood of Idyllwild. The all-black A-frame is entered via a bridge spanning a seasonal creek leading up to the wraparound deck. The cabin features double-height front windows with upholstered window seat, wood burning stove, two bedrooms with queen beds, full bath and chef’s kitchen. Located on a private road, the property encompasses the adjoining lot so you’re surrounded by nature on all sides.
Built in 1979, The Dusk House is a two-story A-frame, with a main level living room, bedroom, kitchen, full bath, and dining area, topped by a dramatic sleeping loft overlooking the living area.
The living room is defined by full-height windows over an upholstered window seat, brick hearth with wood-burning stove, and a vintage Percival Lafer armchair. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the forest, or unwind in front of the 42” Roku TV with Sonos surround sound for either music or tv.
The kitchen features poured concrete countertops, all-new Samsung electric appliances, 33” farmhouse sink, John Boos butcher block work table, Dualit toaster, microwave, and Chemex pour-over coffee maker.
The dining table seats six comfortably, while through the sliding glass doors there’s additional seating for four on the wraparound deck where you can spy Tahquitz Peak through the pines. Beyond the deck, the property extends encompassing the neighboring lot with no neighbors beyond it.
Both the downstairs and loft bedrooms boast queen beds with new Leesa memory foam mattresses and built-in closets.
***The Dusk House is located on a private road and though it is paved, it is not plowed or otherwise maintained by the county. The road is passable by most any vehicle in good weather except for a few days out of the year when there is heavy snow. During these times, we and our neighbors will park at the bottom of the road, about an 800 ft walk uphill to the house. If you book between the months of November and March, we encourage you to take this to heart. We will be in touch prior to your stay and can advise of the current road conditions, however we can't tell you with any certainty if your car will be able to pass. We are not responsible for any stuck or damaged vehicles due to road or weather conditions.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Super clean, incredibly comfortable bed and bedding, short drive into town and, best of all, a back deck and tub that you can totally immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of nature. Loved the guest book with local recommendations and instructions to great features like Sonos and Smart Home.
The hosts were so kind and communicative and super quick to answer any and all questions. The cabin is so beautiful, clean, inviting, and cozy. It was perfectly situated close to town, but far enough away that it felt like you had plenty of privacy. My pup absolutely loved it. The soaking tub was a nice touch after long days of hiking. My friend and I absolutely loved the reading nook at the living room windows as well.
The Dusk House was perfect, in all aspects. The location, the design and decor, everything was clean and organized, and the owners were responsive and accommodating. We are busy parents and business owners, and what The dusk house provided for us was exactly what we were looking for — a peaceful place to ourselves where we were able to rest and recharge. Thank you!
Had the most perfect birthday at the dusk house. The decor, art and surrounding nature made this trip feel both cozy and inspiring. Every detail of the home has thought and care put into it. We loved sitting and reading in the big front windows and waking up to the sunrise in the loft bedroom. Can’t wait to return!!
We had such great stay at dusk house! A beautifully updated cabin filled with great light and featuring a lovely hot tub. We would absolutely love to stay here again the next time we visit Idyllwild!
Wonderful stay at the Dusk House! Nick and Kathryn have a keen eye for detail and are communicative and attentive hosts, especially after some heavy snow right before our stay. Would absolutely recommend staying at this beautiful property with stellar hosts!
The Dusk House exceeded our expectations. The serene environment paired with the well thought out decor was wonderful. It was very well stocked with essentials for cooking and the hosts were fantastic to work with.
What a delightful experience we had at the Dusk House! The cabin was exactly as described, and if anything was even more comfortable and cozy than the pictures made it seem. Everything was beautifully appointed, and we felt like we were staying at a luxury resort. The surrounding woods were beautiful and serene; we experienced almost total quiet the entire time. Everything was provided for in the kitchen and all the other rooms were comfortable and made us feel like we were in our own home. We loved the fireplace and the soaking tub outside was a dream. Communication from the hosts was excellent- we had only minor issues and they responded immediately. Trips into town are short and easy- we wished we could have stayed for longer! We hope to stay again soon!
The Dusk House is a beautiful gem in Idyllwild with the best of all worlds. Just a five minute drive from town, you're still very close to the iconic Idyllwild shops, restaurants, and attractions--but you're far enough away to feel like you're in your own little world. Nick and Kathryn have also outdone themselves with furnishing and decorating this charming A-Frame cabin. Such a beautiful, cozy environment. Would absolutely recommend and hope to come back someday.

I really love this property. You feel like your all alone at this house and every view out the window is beautiful scenery. The hot tub is relaxing and always ready to go. The house was impeccably clean and the bed was super comfortable. I went alone and it was the perfect week of serenity and nature. The town is only an 8 minute drive or so and has plenty of places to eat, buy groceries, and just look around. It appears this time of year many stores are closed but it was fine with me. I went hiking on the many trails and really enjoyed the Idyllwild Nature Center. The kitchen is perfectly stocked, and although I did not know how to use all of the conveniences, the house is set up as a smart house with lighting and speakers, etc. Because it is a dead end street, there is rarely traffic. The peacefulness is my favorite part. The hosts are very responsive and made me feel comfortable. I highly recommend staying here!
This magnificent A-frame cabin in Idyllwild (10 minutes to town) was ideal for my two dogs who needed a break from fireworks noise. The well-appointed kitchen had everything needed, especially loved the Chemex pour-over coffee maker while enjoying fresh mountain air. Indoor space was comfortable with smart TV for movies and Sonos speakers for background music. AC kept us cool during warm July days. Everything was spotlessly clean and owner communication was outstanding. My dogs felt completely at home! The wooded setting was magical - we saw grey squirrels, blue jays, a rabbit, and even a bobcat. The cabin offers the perfect blend of modern amenities and natural beauty.Highly recommend this pet-friendly mountain sanctuary!
This was a perfectly decorated Idyllwild A-frame. All of the touches throughout the house made it feel like our own little forest hideaway home. There are views throughout the house & everything was clean, easily accessible, & showed character. My family & I loved spending a couple of days here. We even got to see a transition in weather from sunny, to rainy, to snowy within those three days. I’d highly recommend heading here. The only caveat is when it snows, make sure you have an AWD car to help with the trek specially when it snows.
Our stay here was amazing! The house is beautifully decorated and thoughtfully designed. It was extremely clean and well equipped with essentials. Loved the tape player, wood burning fireplace, and cozy vibes. Absolutely beautiful home. Would definitely recommend!
