Imagine watching the reflection on a lake of an orange sun rise over a wooded hill; You breathe in the aroma of the towering pines that is quintessential Maine and hear loons calling to each other. Welcome to Isla’s Will; A cottage at the end of a private child safe road, tucked in the woods just 20 feet from the water’s edge. Away from it all, but super close to area amenities: Fun Park, Movie Theatre, and most importantly, ice cream and gourmet deli salads and sandwiches.
Spend your days diving off your private swim float, then eat lunch at the picnic table or deck. Fish off the dock, explore the nearby winery or catch a movie if the weather is inclement. Top off the day with a campfire toasting s’mores on the fire pit or dine at a hip restaurant in Portland with every cuisine imaginable just 40 minutes away.
Waterfront Amenities: There is 100 feet of direct lake front and an additional 100 feet on a ROW shared by everyone on the road. There are 3 steps with a railing to a sandy bottom waterfront. Ideal for the young or elderly. The water temperature in the top 18 inches is 70 degrees by the end of June.
As part of a private association, Isla’s Will offers 2 other swimming venues in addition to your own private lake front. There is also a boat launch facility and a private 20 foot dock where 2 kayaks and a canoe are available for your use only (a $700 rental value). Loons, turtles and ducks will be your constant water companions.
Cottage Amenities: Beds for 6 plus the possibility of two more using the rollaway on the second level and a futon in the bedroom on the first floor. There is a pull out queen sofa in the living room. Queen bed in master bedroom, twin beds in loft. First floor bedroom has a queen and the aforementioned futon twin.
Bathrooms on both floors. 1st floor was remodeled with granite counters and sit down shower. 2nd floor is ensuite with new shower and has clawfoot tub.
The gourmet galley kitchen is fully outfitted (food processor, dish washer, microwave, 2 lobster pots, blender, waffle and crepe maker etc) has Pergo floors and hand painted tile backsplash. There is an unusually large kitchen table with 2 leaves that has room for 6 chairs. Additional seating with 2 bar stools at the breakfast nook.
Other amenities include: High Speed Internet, Full spectrum cable selection, box fans, air conditioning on both floors via a heat pump / mini split system and a ceiling fan in the family room, DVD player, CD player, washer and dryer, cable TV, family games, life jackets, over 100 family videos to choose from. Picnic table.
Just 10 ways we are a cut above the competition.
1. Our linen service ($100 extra) includes making the beds and striping them. It also includes beach towels which the competition does not.
2. Lot is landscaped by a Maine certified Master Gardener. Color everywhere!.
3. When possible we will try to get you early check in depending on what is happening with the cleaner schedule and where we fall in their schedule that week. We try to get the first cleaning slot to get your arrival before 2pm , which is a few hours earlier than other cottages.
5. A land line is provided for safety. The police or fire department will know where you are.
6. Flat panel TV with full cable and high speed internet. Also 50 movies on DVDs are provided.
7. Air conditioners on both floors and 2 box fans to help with circulation if needed.
8. Re-booking policy will hold your rate for 1 additional season.
9. Shampoo, soap, etc are probably there if previous families did not help themselves :(
10. Waterfront entry has a bench and is 3 steps down safe stairs with a railing to sandy entry. No rocks, no weeds, no muck, no sticky clay.
Area Highlights: While very private, the location is not remote. Windham's Fun Park with go carts, sky swing and mini golf, movie theater and mall are 15 minutes in one direction while Naples with a game arcade, old fashioned steamboat ride around Long Lake, water sports, and plane rides is 15 minutes in the other direction.
Day trips under 2 hours: Portland is a great walking city from which you can tour the outer Maine islands via the mail boat or explore Peaks Island via golf cart. Freeport and North Conway for outlet shopping are an hour away. Family outings might include visits to the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray or the Sabbathday Shaker Village in New Gloucester which is the last active Shaker village in the US. Hike any variety of mountains including Shawnee Peak in Bridgton 45 minutes away; an artsy town where there is a wonderful park along a stream, an old time movie theatre, antique shops and art galleries to browse. Closer to the cottage, 5 minutes away is Hacker’s Hill with mesmerizing views of Sebago Lake in one direction and Thomas Pond in the other.
About the lake: Thomas Pond covers 533 acres and has a maximum depth of 64 feet. It is about 1 mile long and a mile wide with nooks and crannies to explore. Very quiet and private with just one neighbor on one side with trees in between. The surface temperature of the water in the summer is 78 degrees. There are 14 different kinds of fish living in the pond including: Brook and Brown trout, white and yellow perch as well as large mouth bass. In 1989, the largest smallmouth bass ever caught in Maine came from Thomas Pond. In the morning you can see the fish from your bedroom window.
Yard Amenities: A private lot is extremely rare in the Lakes Region. Children will enjoy playing in our pesticide/herbicide-free yard. Lots of potted flowers and perennial beds with garden ornaments give the feel of a bed and breakfast. An herb garden is yours for culinary experimentation. Book lovers take notice. We have a large assortment of books for children and adults with topics to please all tastes.
Google 'Isla's Will' for a video on U tube.
I pulled the following paragraphs on Thomas Pond trivia from Jon Whitney a local realtor's blog: "The mood on Thomas Pond is relaxed. In fact, this is where Nathaniel Hawthorne, the famous 19th century author of The Scarlet Letter and many other works, used to enjoy relaxing as a kid. There is even a granite rock known as Inspiration Chair located along the shoreline that it is said he enjoyed sitting on.
Hawthorne spent some off his boyhood only a stones throw from Thomas Pond at his Uncle Richard Manning's home. According to the Hawthorne in Salem Web site, "Nathaniel and his friends could walk along broad Dingley Brook as it flowed down from its source, Thomas Pond, a half mile away. On its shores was the brickyard run by Jacob Watkins, which made the bricks necessary for the chimneys of the houses. From Thomas Pond, Nathaniel could see Rattlesnake Mountain, several miles away, a view which he loved." Today, family names in the area still include Dingley and Watkins. And in the summertime you can visit Hawthorne's home on nearby Raymond Cape Road in South Casco.
Tall white pines surround the 7.5 miles of shoreline. The lake covers 497 acres and has a maximum depth of 64 feet. The outlet, Dingley Brook, drains directly into Sebago Lake. Seasonal and year-round homes dot the shoreline."

The stay was absolutely amazing! The property & lake was a perfect getaway. Mary is so easy and great to communicate with making the whole process and stay so enjoyable! Thank you so much Mary for everything the kids had a blast & a week they will remember for ever!

Hi Ryan. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. It really helps where I land in the search results. So fun to hear the kids had a great time. PM me for special rates for repeaters in 2024. All the best, Mary
The house was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the water was great. Very relaxing and quiet. Great place to stay as they had everything. We enjoyed kayaking and found an island Mary talked about. We're very picky house renters and Isla's Will fit the bill.

Hi Sharon, Thanks for your time in leaving a review. We would welcome you back at discount at anytime in the future. 2024 is booking. Last year we were fully booked by mid December.
We had an excellent stay! Weather was great. It was beautiful sunrise over the lake!
The house has such charm, from the front deck overlooking the lake, to the landscaping on the outside.
The kitchen had everything we needed… We had a lovely time. Can’t go wrong with this place! Highly recommend!

Thanks Luda, I appreciate the review. The deck and the new gliding chair on it, is my favorite place to drink coffee in the morning watching the mist rise from the lake. Can't wait to have you back and remember the discount!! :)
We had a great stay. The lake was very quiet with hardly any boaters. The cottage was located close to restaurants. Residents are very watchful about maintaining the speed limit on the road we stayed on and quick to complain.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the peaceful lake and location and want to return in 2023, joining our other legacy renters, some of whom are now going on their 20th year! I am embarrassed about my neighbor's complaint about the 15 mph speed limit. Coming down the hill to the house is tricky with that and thank you for your patience and kind demeanor.
We had a great week at the lake (Second week in July 2022). The weather was perfect. The house has a private beach with a dock and swim raft. We went swimming, kayaking and canoeing everyday.

Mary, thank you so much for your review. Most of our guests are repeats so I don't get the number of reviews needed to meet the threshold for VRBO "Premier Host" status but your review placed me into it! I am very grateful and very happy that Isla's Will could be part of your family's summer memories. I look forward to hosting you again. Repeaters always get a discount. Wishing you a great rest of the summer.
We had a great time at the cottage. Very clean and location was great. Loved spending our days out in the canoe on the water. I really loved listening to the loons. The owner was very helpful and nice. Would definitely recommend it to family and friends.

Thanks Kelly. I like that the loons tend to hang out at our end of the lake. The song they sing between them is just the kind of wake up call you want on a Maine vacation. We look forward to hosting your family again.

Serene location on a beautiful lake
If you are looking for rest and relaxation in a peaceful, picturesque setting - this is the place for you. The property is lovely and we were able to take advantage of nearly everything it offers - canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, sitting out by the fire pit and simply enjoying the view from the porch. The house is very convenient to services but the best part of the location is that it is so private and quiet. We plan to visit again next year.

Wow! Thanks for writing a review at 8:15 Sunday morning, the day following your departure! I know the feeling of waking up and not being able to see the lake from bed :) The private location is pretty unique to the area where cottages can be so close you can hear the neighbor's television set because everyone has their windows open in the summer. We are glad you found this hidden gem and thrilled you re-booked next year before you even left. Thanks again for taking the time to write a review and share your experience. "See" you next year!

Beautiful Property
This is a homey, well maintained very clean cottage right on the lake. We enjoyed our stay here. The owner is very accommodating and a pleasure to work with.
There is one quite large bedroom, one medium sized bedroom and a loft which offers no privacy but is suitable for children or family members.
Highly recommended for a quiet, private getaway that is not far from Portland.

Hi. Thank you for the five star review. We work really hard to keep the cottage looking like a well maintained home and not have it start to take on the look of a "rental". We are so committed to this high standard that we forgo a week of rent in the middle of the high season to do fluff up and deep clean. Looking forward to hosting you again. Thank you for choosing Isla's Will. Mary
The lake house on Thomas Pond was very comfortable and very clean. We enjoyed kayaking, watching and listening to the loons, eating at local venues and just relaxing. Mary was a wonderful host and left us with a detailed welcome packet but responded quickly to any questions. Thanks Mary for a great week! Diane &Tom

Beautiful lake, clean, warm water and fun to explore
We had such a great relaxing family vacation at this home. It was so nice to be lake front that was very private. The kids enjoyed the kayaks, canoe, roasting marshmallows in the fire pit, jumping off the floating dock and jumping off the rock island that we found in the lake! A few minutes away was Hackers hill with breathtaking sunsets. Down the road in Naples we water skied and went tubing at Captain Dingley’s!

Absolutely perfect
We had such a wonderful weekend at Islas Will. The place is beautifully maintained and situated in a lovely, private spot on the pond. You can see the dock from the kitchen table and from the bedroom, and hear the loons at night. We went kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and the kids even went swimming although it was memorial day weekend and not very warm! Mary is a wonderful hostess and gave us all the information we needed for perfect stay.

We look forward to hosting the Keating family again!!

This property offers many things, the cottage is beautiful and has all the comforts you need.
Beautiful morning views of the sunrise from the master bedroom or from the kitchen and also the living room area.
Hearing the loons was as loud as it gets compared to our home in the city.so relaxing.

Totally Relaxing
The property was very well kept, peaceful and beautiful. Located on the water on a dead end road allowed for total privacy. Everything we needed was supplied except for wood for the fire but a few minutes in the adjacent nature walk could supply all the dried wood you would need.
The six of us all decided that we'd like to return again next year.
Loved it Mary, Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review Jim. Actually, now that we have a propane fireplace, we are asking renters to use the smaller logs from the log pile for the fire pit but it is also nice to recycle what is found in the 15 acres of woods.
I know you visited several cottages with boots on the ground prior to selecting ours as the best way of celebrating your 50th anniversary with your children. I am so happy you choose Isla's Will as best in class to be part of your family's memories. I look forward to hosting you again. Current year renters always get first dibs on the week they would like. Simply email me and I will hold the week with no money down.
Thanks again,
Mary and Steve
We thoroughly enjoyed this lakeside cabin. The beach front is perfect for swimming and paddling. And we utilized the kayaks and canoe everyday. The lake was very quiet and the neighbors friendly. I loved the cozy feel of the house. And I loved all the lakeside windows so you could really enjoy the view from kitchen living room and upstairs bedroom. The kitchen was well equipped to handle our multigenerational group. We would love to come back. And would highly recommend.

That said, I am leaving VRBO and we are about half booked for 2024. I will connect with you in a week or two about your plans for next summer. Until then, thanks for choosing Isla's Will.
Wow! Isla's Will was a stunning location. Peaceful and serene..just what we needed this summer. The cabin was clean, well-maintained, comfortable beds, and provided plenty of room. The kayaks and the wifi service were both, a welcomed bonus. We had such a wonderful time relaxing on the deck overlooking the water.
Our host, Mary, was so easy to work and her welcome packet included so many local suggestions for hikes, restaurants, and adventures.
What a wonderful vacation! We hope to get back soon.

Hi Kristi, I am so glad you found our cottage for your vacation. We look forward to hosting you again. Feel free to reach out to see what your re-booking discount would be.
Everybody in my family loved the house and the lake. The lake itself is pristine and clear - a lot of wildlife too, from ducks to loons to turtles to a majestic bald eagle. The water was warm and the kids spent many hours in the water each day. As far as cottage, it was comfortable and spotless, we were thankful for air conditioner since it was actually quite hot during the week that we stayed. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well-stocked and Mary is one of the most attentive and pleasant hosts I ever had to deal with. Thank you for the wonderful week.
This home on Thomas Pond was the perfect place for relaxing and enjoying the region near Sebago Lake. Mary was the perfect host, very responsive and helpful in all her suggestions. The house was extremely clean and well stocked on the end of a peninsula, so extremely quiet and private. They supplied 3 kayaks and a canoe which we utilized at least once a day. The pond is large enough with undeveloped areas and coves to make the kayaking and birding always interesting. We saw Loons, osprey, an eagle and migrating birds. There were plenty of places to hike for all ages. We especially enjoyed the views from Hawk Mountain and the Beaver Loop Trail in Sebago State Park. During this period with the Coronavirus, we felt perfectly safe, isolated but never bored. I would highly recommend this wonderful home and hope to return.

Great family vacation spot
Our family of 4 just spent a glorious week at Isla's Will on Thomas Pond. The house was very clean, well appointed and located in a very private spot at the end of the road. My boys ages 5 and 9 spent hours swimming and jumping off the float. We loved taking them for canoe rides and long walks around the neighborhood. We also loved the proximity to Naples and Windham where we enjoyed mini golf, the arcade and Lobster from Bob's. My husband and I enjoyed the peaceful location, the outdoor deck and the fishing. At night we enjoyed the fire pit. The lake is very quiet with little boat traffic. My boys loved the room with two twin beds and a secret nook that they could crawl into a play. The air conditioning/heat pump system kept us very cool on a few of the hottest nights. Other nights, the master bedroom has big windows facing the lake which we opened up and enjoyed the lake breezes. We would love to return and Mary was very easy to communicate with and helpful with questions.

So happy your family loved all the amenities of the lake and the region. This is such a great review - thank you for taking the time to write it. While reading it, I honestly wished I was in your shoes last week! It was my pleasure to host you. I look forward to doing it again in the future.
Hi Greg, Thank you for your review. We would love to host you in 2024 at a discount to the current rate. We are half booked and going off VRBO January 1st.
About the host
Hosted by Mary Davis
My husband is an avid cook and I am a Master Gardener so you will find a coffee grinder for your beans and flowers for your table. We are both readers so lots of cook books and books about Maine. Our intent was to create an atmosphere less hotel chic and more cozy bed and breakfast. Rooms display original oil paintings and whimsy. Every care was given to ensure that your vacation will be a dream vacation.
Why they chose this property
My husband went to camp in this area and has fond memories of his summers here. We sent our son to camp on Panther Pond. This location is a gem and we bought it on the spot - not setting a foot off the property until a P&S was signed. For privacy and convenience to area amenities, this cottage has no peer. The cottage is named Isla's Will after the owner's mother, and can be seen on you tube by typing in that name. Interior shots available from owner.
What makes this property unique
Sunrises and mist rising off the lake make for a magical moment. The call of the loons throughout the day remind you of the beauty of nature, tranquility and simplicity. The smell of the pine forest is the best aromatherapy I know of. House is 20 feet from lake which can not be duplicated with today's environmental laws. 15 acres of walking trails will not be found in any other listing on vrbo and ensures a private vacation experience. 2 BBQ grills - your choice gas or charcoal, definitely a unique benefit. Lakefront is a shallow sandy entry great for kids and elderly alike. Quiet part of lake make for less waves and listening to other people's jet skis and motor boats.
