About this property
Adirondacks Lakefront Relaxation: Waterfront A-frame Cottage on Lake Luzerne!
We call our little waterfront A-frame cottage "Big Vista" for obvious reasons. The prettiest views we have ever seen will be yours every moment you spend here. The rustic A-Frame cottage is right on (and above) the lake providing unmatched views. No electric wires, no road, and no driveway between you and the beautiful water!
The interior is knotty pine in the main living area and has tasteful Adirondack decor throughout. The master suite has a King size bed and its own bathroom (and a coffee bar!) and covered porch, perfect for quietly sipping your coffee lakeside each morning. From the screened porch on the main level, enjoy panoramic views of the morning mist rising from the lake and sunrise over Cobble Mountain. The screen porch is also perfect for dining, or to gather for family game nights. The main deck is roomy with a glass table, chairs, a hammock, a propane fire pit, and a propane grill. The tall pines surrounding the property provide plenty of cool shade on the hot summer afternoons.
The updated kitchen offers just enough of what is needed, including a full-sized fridge, induction cooktop stove, 24" electric oven, coffee pot, electric tea kettle, and microwave.
The upstairs bedroom sleeps two with a single and a full log style bed. A new large window was just installed in the upper bedroom which also features three skylights and an A/C unit for those warm summer nights.
The stars of the show at Big Vista are the incredible views, covered screen porch, main deck, private floating swim dock, and your own private sundeck lakeside on a gorgeous Adirondack lake! Our floating dock is a blast for paddling from, swimming, jumping off, or just hanging out in the sun. Lake Luzerne is limited to 7.5 hp motors, so, without any speedboats buzzing around, the clean waters are ideal for swimming, fishing, and paddling.
Lake Luzerne is just 10 miles from Lake George Village, so a visit to faster-paced nightlife with restaurants and shops is nearby.
When visiting Big Vista, you will have use of a 15’ two-seat canoe, two kayaks, and two paddleboards, plus all life jackets and paddles needed.

Our stay at Lake Luzerne was fantastic. What a great "little" lake. The views were amazing and the availability of the kayaks and SUPs was really appreciated. The owner was great with communication. Definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing vacation with great Lake views.
First time up in the Adirondacks and found this great getaway. Close enough to busy activities and towns but better for us, the perfect spot to stay, relax, swim, kayak and unwind! Super thoughtful hosts. Would definitely go again! Don’t miss out!

We really enjoyed our stay. The location is very peaceful and great if you just want to chill. Spent more time on the lake than we expected because it was so convenient with the canoe, kayaks and paddle boards being right there. Host Robert was the best, made the whole experience easy and inviting. It was challenging for our minivan to get uphill on the gravel driveway. Consider come in an AWD or a lighter vehicle.
For a week of quiet and relaxing this is the place. A perfect spot to unwind, do some exploring with a gorgeous view. Our first time in this area did not disappoint. Host included kayaks, paddle boards and floats to enjoy the lake and a view that does not end. Cannot say enough nice things about the hosts from booking through our check out- wonderful recommendations, ensuring our comfort all the way to calming me when we had an issue with a kayak. Thank you!
The house is beautiful and the view of the lake is fantastic! The owners are easy to reach and responded in a timely manner to issues that occurred concerning the house. The lake is quiet and relaxing.
Beautiful home, vista, and location. The listing was spot-on - the lake is gorgeous as is the view of it and the surrounding area. The hosts provide lots of water equipment (boats, floats, etc.). The region provides a lot to do as well. Highly recommended!
Beautiful house with amazing views of the lake. Drinking my morning coffee on the porch while viewing the lake, was a great way to start the day! Great location, close to many activities and things to do. The house itself had everything we needed to be comfortable. Robert was very responsive. Highly recommended!
We were so impressed and happy with this stay. The house was beautiful and immaculate. Our hosts were kind and helpful and communicative. I can’t even describe how magical the property is, access to the lake, solitude, comfortable, close to other things. I’d we ever travel to the Adirondack region again I will definitely look for this house again. It exceeded all our fantasies!
We truly enjoyed our stay. We have stayed in other Adirondack lakefront cabins and this one was by far the most quiet. It was a nice change of pace to not hear the sound of speed boats and jet skis and dodge wake all day long.
The cabin is a short drive from many attractions. It's nice to be close to Lake George to go to Great Escape or the Outlets without the hassle of staying there. We found several interesting places to eat within 10 minutes drive as well.
My now fiancé and I have stayed at a lot of Vrbo or Airb&b properties and it’s always a gamble on the property to match the photos and information provided for said property. Not with Big Vista, it was spot on with the privacy and having basically your own private spot on lake luzerne. The owners are very easy to work with and answer promptly if needed for anything. The property was beautiful and lived up to its Name Big Vista. We will be coming back next year. We believe we may have found our future vacation spot for summer getaways.
Our family has stayed in several houses on beautiful lakes in NY and this is by far the best house on the nicest lake. The house has an outdoor seating area, a screened porch, a lower porch outside the main bedroom and a deck by the lake with plenty of seating in each for you to while away your day. The kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms are well-equipped. The WiFi and cable are solid. The lake is great for swimming and the owners provide a kayak, canoe and paddle boards. And we can't say enough good things about Robert and Lori. They take great care of the house, they were communicative and available when the power went out in the whole neighborhood, and they are overall very welcoming. And if you are lucky, you will see the bald eagles who sleep on the tree next door!
Beyond perfect! Amazing stay at Big Vista! The owners Lori and Burl have thought of everything to make our stay amazing. Upon arriving through a dirt road leading up to the house, the view of the lake emerges and an overwhelming sense of peace and tranquility ascends upon you. Entering the A-frame cabin there’s a deck with comfortable furniture to sit and enjoy the view and listen to the eagles, blue jays, loons calls and songs. There is a propane fire pit and BBQ to use. Entering the cabin through a screened porch is magical. Warning, after a long day, if you lay down on the sofa you might just wake up the next day!! Sliding doors enter to the main house to the main living space. There’s a well equipped kitchen w many condiments, creamer, coffee, fresh ice bags and a covered bowl of fresh baked cinnamon buns that really hit the spot for breakfast. On the table was a beautifully curated basket of gifts to use and keep. Very special and thoughtful touches from the owners going above and beyond to ensure a perfect stay. All the appliances were new
I wish the McCutcheon family owned every place I traveled to. You could not ask for a host more interested in you having a good stay. The property has 4 separate sitting areas outdoors & is perfect for a party of 3-4. There is some verticality to it, but my wife is disabled from a stroke and was still able to access all areas including the lake front. It is about 20 min from both Lake George and Saratoga Spring and in between are a number of restaurants and activities. The lake itself is perfect for a swim, or paddle, and is not too big, not to small. At times you can hear the music camp across the lake. The is a hidden gem and worth your effort to get to. If you do go, listen to the directions provided by the host. GPS does work to a point, you need his verbal directions for the final .25 mile. Just keep turning right. What a fun time we had here
This house checked every box for our family of 4 (parents and two 20-something daughters), and we do a lot of vacation rentals. The location right on the lake is prime -- we all loved the screened front porch with a view over the water, and the ability to just walk downstairs and dive into the water or push off in a kayak. There was plenty of space for us, but the maximum of 5 people does make sense -- larger groups would want more beds and room. We did several great hikes and saw some unexpected art at the Hyde museum in Glens Falls and a show at Caffe Lena in Saratoga. The wifi and cable TV were reliable options at night. Owners were very responsive to our few questions. Renters staying more than a few days should note that there's a dryer but no washer and plan accordingly; with that noted, we recommend this place without qualification.
We loved our stay at Big Vista. The water activities were amazing and Lori and Robert were very responsive whenever we had any questions. The house has a lot of charm and it's very well equipped to provide a lot of fun activities in the water.
We had an amazing, relaxing week at Big Vista. Lake Luzerne is calm and beautiful, perfect for lazy paddling and swimming. Robert and Lori provided kayaks, paddle boards and all the equipment needed for a family to have fun on the lake. The cabin is rustic and charming, as is the town. We enjoyed a blacksmithing demonstration at the Adirondack Folk School, a visit to Ulysses S Grant’s cottage and, mostly, lots of fun on the lake. We hope to return!
We had such a wonderful stay at the Big Vista. Robert and Lori are great host, and very accommodating. Amazing views from inside, and especially on the multiple decks overlooking the lake. Fun for all ages. Our teenagers loved paddling boarding and fishing, while our youngest loved splashing and swimming. For us it was the peacefulness and relaxation.
We look forward for another memorable stay at the Big Vista!

About the host
Hosted by Robert McCutcheon
Burl and Lori have owned Big Vista since September 2021. 28 years ago, they set out with the dream of owning a vacation property on a lake in the Adirondacks and fell in love with the Lake Luzerne property the very moment they crested the driveway and the massive lake-view unfolded in front of them. Since then, they have updated many parts of the rustic camp and added details such as fresh paint, updated kitchen appliances, new fixtures and toilets, Twig drawer-pulls, and a coffee nook. They will continue to work at bringing it back to its original beauty, and, of course, enjoying the views and the lake in the process.
Why they chose this property
Big Vista is simply one in a million: direct waterfront on the lake, elevated for breathtaking views, adorable and surprisingly roomy A-frame rustic cottage, all within minutes of so many attractions in the southern Adirondack Park.
What makes this property unique
Eagles, Loons, sunrises over Cobble Mountain, quiet and private location, gorgeous decks and porches, private dock and swim platform, and yet so close to conveniences and restaurants! Simply a breathtaking view from every level of the house!
