Why they chose this property

"This relaxing home in Castroville was perfect for our family of four. We felt instantly at home. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The washer and dryer were clean and in good working order. We appreciated the bathroom having two cabinets for toiletries and the great water pressure in the shower. The town of Castroville is perfectly located to take advantage of the Big Sur area. We were less than 20 minutes from the city of Monterey which offered extensive dining options. We were only 5 minutes from the beach. Our family loved Moss Landing which was only a 5 minute drive. There was an adorable restaurant, the Power Plant that served delicious coffees and drinks as well as a full menu all day. You were surrounded by plants in a cute and unique environment. We ate at Phil’s Market. It was a simple sandwich shop that provided a lot of options and surprisingly delicious flavors. The beach at Moss Landing was a perfect place to spend time with the family on the Pacific. This is also where whale watching, eco, and fishing tours are located. We went on the eco tour and saw sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters. This is a great place to watch sea lions, they gather on the docks around Moss Landing. From this house you’re also near many vineyards. The 101 offers 200 vineyards and historic Spanish Missions. Extremely Fresh produce is sold throughout the region as it’s produced there. We loved it so much we didn’t want to leave." - Heidi Clements June, 2023 My property is a newly remodeled 2 bed 1 bath house situated in a very quiet neighborhood. It is super convenient to get on and off highway #1, 156, 101. It is only 5 min to the state beaches and Moss Landing, Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve which is the second-largest remaining salt marsh in California. Monterey Bay Aquarium, 17 mile scenic view drive, and Carmel-by-the-Sea are all within this area. Baby crib and high chair are available upon request.

What makes this property unique

Farmer's market near by with local fresh produce. The beautiful Elkhorn Slough National Estuary Research Reserve is 10 minutes away from my house. People can hike and watch wildlife and birds.

Castroville is known as Artichoke Capital of the world, artichoke ice cream with lemon has a very pleasant taste. Artichoke pizza is also famous to tourists.

Elkhorn Slough Estuaries: a nursery ground, a resting place, a smorgasbord; where rivers meet the sea. If you're a nature enthusiast you've probably heard this description before. But what exactly does it mean? And what in the world is a slough anyway? A visit to the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is a great way to find all this out, and much more.

The approximately 1,700 acres that comprise the reserve include salt marsh, mud flat, freshwater pond, oak woodland, and grassland habitats. A stroll on any one of the three loop trails reveals a variety of both wetland and upland wildlife. It is not uncommon for a black-tailed deer to be foraging in the oaks while a grey smoothhound shark is gliding through the backwater shallows just below in search of a meal of mud crabs.

For more information, visit link opens in new window ElkhornSlough.org or call the reserve at (831) 728-2822 or the Central Region Fresno office at (559) 243-4005 x151.
