Your host

I’m a writer based in Richmond, Va. I work for a non-profit but also do freelance and creative projects when I’m able to. I love Richmond and especially my location in Church Hill, close to restaurants, cafes, and parks that overlook the city!
I have been fortunate to live in California and Alabama as well, and to have traveled widely. Some favorite experiences have been backpacking down the coast of California, hiking the Lanmannalauger Trail in Iceland, and spending a semester in Cusco, Peru.
I purchased the “Green House” in 2020, and I’m excited to welcome travelers to my cozy home-base on their journey to or through my beloved Richmond!

Why they chose this property
This is my primary residence (you'll be here while I'm away) so that means you can feel good supporting a real member of the neighborhood, but also that means the house comes with the quirks of a lived-in home! I hope you enjoy the character that adds.
What makes this property unique
The "Green House" doesn't get its name solely by being painted green and being filled with plants: it's also an eco-friendly home. Most of the electricity is produced by our rooftop solar panels, and most of the appliances are energy-efficient.
When you arrive at the house, you'll first encounter my flower and herb garden (please pick some to use!) and the front porch with some rocking chairs perfect to sit and watch the many dog-walkers pass by. When you enter through the front door, you'll walk into a hallway with the first floor bedroom/ office with full-length original windows, a futon, and a desk. Continue down the hallway to the open living room and kitchen--a great spacious area to hang out while cooking, playing games, or watching tv. The kitchen has all the basic cooking supplies you'll need, as well as food staples, and a coffee/ tea station. The half-bath is off the living room, and the laundry machines are under the stairs.
Upstairs you'll find the full bathroom with a combined shower/ tub (it's a tight bathroom but just enough space!). My room will be on the right, closed off, and your upstairs bedroom will be on the left. It's a big open room with three front-facing windows and built-in style bookshelves around a fireplace.
Back downstairs and out the back of the kitchen you'll find the backyard, with a large patio area. There are chairs around a fire pit and a long table you can sit around for a meal or a card game. Around the patio are my vegetable and flower gardens. At the back of the yard you'll find a bistro set on a deck under the tree, and an outdoor tub! You are welcome to use it--you'll just have to bring water out to fill it up. I also have a kayak you are welcome to take down to the river (you just have to read the section of my house guide about river safety first.)
I'm a writer so you'll find books all over the house--feel free to peruse or read them!
